Hardware Jams Weekend Challenge - 210bpm WIP (Middle Eastern)

video upload by SynthAddict

"Maschine+

With the M+ set to 210bpm and a Middle Eastern scale I varied notes and arps to quarter, eighth, and sixteeneth notes to vary the cadence. You can see the BPM is set to 210 in my display.

Overall it's pretty fast, but not blinding speed since that wouldn't make sense with traditional instruments. :-P"

Lep Lumanoise / Crows Electromusic Ovum / Magpie Pedals Wet - A Study of Cronch

video upload by Oscillator Sink

"I'm working on a video about these neat Lep Lumanoise devices, but while I was getting to know them, I ended up with this small set-up that I was finding quite inspiring, so I thought I would record a short performance.

The percussive element is the Lep Monocassa, and I'm routing its internal trigger through a delay to get additional rhythms when required. The drones are the Lep Lumanoise v4 and the Crows Elecromusic Ovum. The Lep Lumamix is bringing everything together, gluing and smooshing the signals in a way that makes each instrument feel interactive with the others as they dance and fight for dominance at the edge of distortion. The Magpie Pedals Wet is on the send of the Lumamix and is vibrating, clanging and resonating along with the other signals - it really is glorious in this setup.

I'll be speaking more about most of the things on the desk soon, but for this one, I'll shut up and let them do the talking.

Ambient modular jam into the Wesaudio Rhea tube compressor

video upload by Sonic Circuitry

"With this 500 series stereo channelstrip, featuring the WesAudio Rhea tube compressor, I’ve got a great sounding chain for recording my modular synth, needing no additional plugins to finalize the sound.

The Hermod+ is sequencing modules by Vostok, with a zlosynth Kaseta adding tape saturation/delay on one of the voices. Then into the Weston Audio mixer, Strymon Starlab adding reverb, and the right output channel goes through the Echo Fix EF-X3 before it hits the 500 series chain."

Note this is the first post to feature zlosynth instruments.

Kaseta is a multi-purpose module inspired by reel-to-reel tape machines. It simulates magnetic hysteresis to provide warm saturation, its four independent delay lines can be used to sculpt rhythms or feedback loops, and it offers wow and flutter control. The module also goes beyond typical tape machine features, with free-moving delays, trigger sequencing, and an internal oscillator.

While the module works perfectly well as a regular delay, its flexible interface can also be wired up to provide a variety of effects, sounds or CV sources. The following list summarizes its main features. To learn more, see the User Manual.

Aluminium panel with high-quality anodized finish
CNC engraved lettering
20 HP, skiff friendly
Delay with 4 reading heads
Tape saturation simulation
Wow and flutter effects
Stereo output
Up to five minutes of recording
Internal oscillator
Trigger sequencer
LEDs visualizing dialed parameters

Sequential Circuits OB-6 Tutorial Lesson 13: Melodic uses of X-Mod

video upload by EthanJamesMusic

"This is a tutorial series for anyone who wants to learn how to do their own sound design using the Sequential Circuits (former Dave Smith Instruments) OB-6 synthesizer. The goal is to break this subject down into understandable and digestible bits of information that you can apply to your own electronic music. I am primarily a media or film composer, so we will learn ambient, techno, and EDM style sound design using the synth. This video shows the various melodic possibilities of the X-Mod section with the OB-6."

New Module from Make Noise: Bruxa!

video upload by MAKEN0ISE

"The Bruxa music synthesizer module is an audio alchemical experiment. Spill your sound into time, and let it decay through the filters to hear the results.

Bruxa is a collaboration between Make Noise and Alessandro Cortini. Inspired by Cortini’s music and sonic experimentations, Bruxa embodies the seen and unseen, the sign and magic, the alchemy of sound. It is a new evolution of Tony and Alessandro’s original prototype circuits which eventually became the Strega’s Time/Filter Experiment. It is a multi-tap delay line with over a dozen unique feedback paths and multiple filters within those feedback paths aligned to allow for accumulation of noise, saturation and signal degradation.

While Strega is a complete synthesizer in a tabletop form factor, Bruxa is a Eurorack module designed to be used as one part of a Eurorack modular synthesizer. You will discover a number of differences in layout, signals, and sound. Living inside the Eurorack modular system, Bruxa encourages you to patch your own sound and modulation sources, yielding results surprisingly distinct from Strega.

Bruxa is a special release that will be available by pre-order only. Orders will be shipping out to dealers this October. Contact your favorite Eurorack dealer for details and availability.

Roland MKS 7 Full Track with PRESET SOUNDS (Juno 106 + TR-707 Synth Module) NO TALKING

video upload by Mamotreco

"Full music track made with the Roland MKS-7 Super Quartet analog rackmount synth. All sounds are unchanged preset sounds from the unit. This rack unit also has a white faceplate design which I believe has some lineage (design-wise) to the CMU-800 predecessor.

The MKS-7 is a multi-timbral synth based on the Roland Juno-106 polysynth + Roland TR-707 drum machine. It features four separate parts - melody (2 voices), chords (4 voices), bass (1 voice) and drums. The melody and chord sections is basically the Juno-106, and can be combined to create a 6 voice synth like the Juno-106.

7 kits and 7 patterns for the Modor DR-2 (no talk)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"A series of example patterns and kits using various techniques on the Modor DR-2. This is pure DR-2 with no other effects or processing. I tried to cover a range of styles showing off some of the sonic powers of this excellent drum synth.

Most of these are very dynamic with strong transients. I considered adding a compressor or limiter on the output in the DAW, but (as usual) thought it best to leave them completely raw.

Please let me know if you have any specific requests for particular sounds or kits and I'll do my best to cover them in the next demo.
