"Here’s a poor condition, non-functioning Roland TR-909 for parts or repair. Our tech says he’s confident he can repair it because he’s amazing and can fix just about anything. However, we pay him by the hour and projects like this tend to take a long time and cost a lot, and in the end, even if we made it look like new on the outside, there’s a cracked circuit board etc inside that wont look so good even after repair, so the end result would be a 909 that wouldn’t be up to our high standards. So, we have decided to sell it broken and strictly as is. Please take a good look at the photos to see what’s included and what’s not - theres nothing more and nothing less than whats shown. In recent years, there have been 909 clones on the market that reportedly use compatible parts one can buy to fix real vintage 909s. Please research this yourself if you’re considering buying this 909 and have the skills required to tackle this project as we dont want you to be disappointed. We also need to make it clear that there are no guarantees whatsoever, warranties, refunds or returns. We don’t know if you have the skills or access to the parts required to repair it. For the right person who enjoys fixing gear as a hobby and is really good at it, this may be a fun project. It's hard to overstate how much this one appeals to me. A budget analog synth that sounds remarkably like my Roland SH-101, but has a triangle wave, second envelope, velocity options, stored sequences, MIDI, a removable keyboard, and a bunch more. The SH-101 is a simple synth, but it's one of my favourite subtractive sounds, and the L1 is the best modernized version of it that I've played. It's the kind of thing I wish Roland were making in 2025, and I would have bought it even if Donner hadn't sent it to me.
Here, I explore the L1 from a few different perspectives, showing off how I'd use it in making music, how it sounds on its own, with effects, and with other instrumentation.
Everything performed and recorded live to a stereo output, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

"En este tema me voy por una rama oscura del electro. Me evoca sensaciones similares a la OST del juego The Binding of Isaac. Bastante oscuro, incluso siniestro por veces.
Muchas disonancias girando en torno al ancla que es la Elektron Analog Four mkii. Bombo y Bajo sientan unas bases potentes sobre lo que construir lo demás. La octatrack como mixer del máster es una gozada mientras que el modular y el subharmonicon son una fuente inagotable de inspiración.
En este caso decidí disolver el tema al final en lugar de llevarlo a una parte nueva. Más acorde a la temática creo. Como siempre, grabado en una toma, y solamente masterizado en Ableton.

In this song I am going for a dark branch of electro. It evokes similar feelings in me to the OST of the game The Binding of Isaac. Quite dark, even sinister at times.
Many dissonances revolving around the anchor that is the Elektron Analog Four mkii. Kick and Bass lay powerful foundations on which I build the rest. The Octatrack as a master mixer is amazing while the modular and the subharmonicon are an infinite source of inspiration.
In this case I decided to dissolve the main parts of the song at the end instead of taking it to a new part. More in line with the theme I think.
Recorded in one take and mastered in Ableton.
