Gary Numan Visits the Moogseum

via The Bob Moog Foundation

"Are 'Friends' Electric"?
In our case, they certainly are!

The Bob Moog Foundation was thrilled to host legendary synthwave pioneer Gary Numan at the Moogseum for a recent private tour. Gary was in town for an incredible show at the Orange Peel in downtown Asheville, NC, and was inspired to check out our interactive museum filled with one-of-a-kind exhibits.

Gary Numan, famous for 1980s synth-pop hits like "Cars," "Are 'Friends' Electric," "We Are Glass," and "Metal," has a long history with synthesizers, including the Minimoog and, perhaps especially, the Polymoog. Chances are, if you're familiar with the model 280a Polymoog's "Vox Humana" preset, you heard it on a Gary Numan track!

Gary's visit included a perusal of our re-creation of Bob Moog's workbench and our historical timeline interactivities. You, too, can immerse yourself in synthesizer history and the professional and personal sides of Bob Moog at the Moogseum. You certainly don't have to be a rock star to get yourself advance entry to one of the world's coolest museums...

"Maschine+

Sines contorted via FM (actually Yamaha style phase modulation) and some added distortions to taste. All sounds are FM sine tweaks."

Exploration Situation

video upload by Memetune Studio

"Here I have set up an exploration situation, whereby I can mess about with various settings on the Buchla 200 while it's playing a semi-random patch

I'm using the 208 Easel module for initial sound generation, which goes to the 296 Spectral Processor, then out to two places: the even output goes to a mixer input, and the odd out goes to the 288 Time Domain Processor, then into mixer input 2. This goes out to the 289 Defect Processor top section, which has Maxlord's Lexi-like (224) reverb EPROM fitted. It's a great reverb! And you can CV various parameters. Joy!"

Strumming on ATRIUM: Keyboarder wants to be Guitarist #whimsicalraps

video upload by Pete Midi

"Whimsical Raps Atrium implements a very special way to play a synthesizer. In combination with the special sound engine it's fun to discover a new world behind the classical synthesizer universe. In this jam I explore the possibilities of the strum touch plate and the chord/scale settings with a distorted guitar like sound. Note that no dedicated guitar effects like overdrive or distortion were used, just a reverb (Eventide Blackhole) and a standard delay (Ableton). The backing track I made with the IK Multimedia Modo Bass and Drum plugins."
