Kurzweil 900 MX MicroExpander

video upload by General Midi Guy ⚡

This appears to be the first post to feature the Kurzweil 900 MX MicroExpander.

"Demo of some of the 64+31 sounds in this of this module. There is also a larger version of the Kurzweil MX 900 called EG-20.

Think it could be related to the Kurzweil 1000 series? Sounds similar but not sure :p

There is also a built in reverb in the unit, some of the patches i turned it on and some off #kurzweil"

Kärntnerland Alpsound (Midi Expander Sound Module)

video upload by General Midi Guy ⚡

This appears to be the first one to be featured on the site.

"The Kärntnerland Alpsound (engineered by Limex) is a professional, compact MIDI sound expander built specifically for accordion and Steirische Harmonika players. This half-rack hardware module transforms MIDI data into authentic Oberkrainer and alpine folk music backing arrangements in real time.

Key Technical Specifications:

Form Factor: Portable 9.5-inch half-rack unit (1U height). Weighs ~1 kg.

Sound Board: 256 MB "Doppelpack" flash memory (combining Alpin Master and Tradition Exclusive libraries).

Polyphony: 116-voice polyphony to prevent note-clipping during complex live arrangements.

Audio Quality: 48 kHz high-fidelity sampling rate with integrated 24-bit reverb and chorus effects.

Connectivity: 5-pin MIDI Input, 12V DC power, and dual 1/4" (6.35mm) Left/Right stereo audio outputs.

Core Performance Features:

Dynamic Bellows Control: Seamlessly processes continuous MIDI CC data. The module alters the volume and tonal expression of instruments (like tuba and baritone horn) dynamically based on accordion bellows pressure.

Authentic Folk Instruments: Loaded with optimized samples of Styrian accordions, baritone brass, acoustic rhythm guitars, clarinets, and trumpets.

Plug-and-Play Live Setup: Connects directly between any accordion MIDI system (such as Limex MPR3/MPR4) and a live PA system or amplifier."

ORLA Micro Partner - 9 Fake Nokia Ringtones ☎️

video upload by General Midi Guy ⚡

This is the first demo of one to be featured on the site. One came up for sale back in 2020.

"Was bored and made a bunch of Nokia styled ringtone sounds on my General Midi device Orla Micro Partner, start the party! Ringtone rave all night :p

#nokia #generalmidi #ringtonemusic #ringtones #90snostalgia

Make your own ringtones and send em to me, my favourite music, just upload somewhere and post a link, mp3 is fine but 16/44 is even better for maximum enjoyment 😺

Casio CSM-10P | Quick Demo of all 5 Sounds

video upload by General Midi Guy ⚡

This appears to be the first post to feature the Casio CSM-10P.

"This video is a quick demo of the Casio CSM-10P, showcasing the five built-in sounds, slightly lo-fi, warm, and relaxed — but not overly processed and no talking, no deep review, and no heavy effects etc.

Just a straightforward sound demo so you can hear what the Casio CSM-10P actually sounds like?"

Videonics Sound Effects Mixer (SE-1) | Vintage Sound FX Box Quick Demo

video upload by General Midi Guy ⚡

"The Videonics Sound Effects Mixer (often known as the SE-1 'Boing Box') is a vintage audio effects unit packed with built-in, triggerable sound effects and simple mixing controls. Originally designed for video production and live use, this quirky little box has found a second life among experimental musicians, noise artists, and retro gear fans.

In this video, we take a closer look at the Videonics Sound Effects Mixer—covering its design, features, sound character, and creative possibilities. From classic cartoon-style effects to strange glitches and pitch-shifted tones, this unit delivers unmistakable old-school charm.

Whether you’re into retro electronics, circuit bending, experimental audio, or just love weird old gear, this mixer is a fascinating piece of audio history."

Roland GP-16 + Synth Sounds

video upload by General Midi Guy ⚡

"Just running some synth sounds through this guitar fx unit to hear what it sounds like. Dont remember what synths were used as i recorded this a few months ago :p but it might have been a behringer boog module.

What is good about this Roland effects unit is that its 100% old digital (i think) :p it also sounds good with guitar but more fun to use synthesizer etc.."

And the Casio:

Casio Rave Stabs
video upload by General Midi Guy ⚡

"Must be some old classic rave track using these fantastic casio sounds? Do they all have the same sounds or are there casios with other sounds, have tried a bunch but many have the same sounds if they're from the same era anyways :p"

Ambient | LYRA-8 & Ableton REcho

video upload by Akihiko Matsumoto

"The SOMA LYRA-8 has earned a reputation as one of the most unconventional analog synthesizers ever built. It does not follow the rules of standard pitch, MIDI sequencing, or predictable modulation. Instead, it generates sound through an organic interaction of oscillators, distortion stages, and feedback paths. Every note is less a fixed frequency and more a living event shaped by your touch, voltage instabilities, and the nonlinear behavior of its circuitry.

the POLYBRUTE's DARK SIDE you should hear

Think the Arturia PolyBrute is just about lush pads and vintage analog sounds? Think again. In this video, I explore the darker, more aggressive side of the PolyBrute and show how features like the Metalizer, Brute Factor, Morph, ladder filter drive, and distortion effects can create brutal industrial textures. If you're into industrial music, EBM, dark electronic music or just want to hear what this incredible analog synth is really capable of, this one's for you."

Torso S-4 POLY Engine: Turning Samples Into Synths (Torso Explorations Vol. 34)

video upload by

"In Volume 34 of my Torso Explorations series, we are diving deep into the POLY engine on the Torso Electronics S-4 sculpting sampler. While the S-4 is an incredible texture and ambient machine, the POLY engine transforms it into an expressive, 8-voice polyphonic synthesizer by arranging samples chromatically across the keys.

I walk you through how to configure and play the POLY engine using two external MIDI controllers: the Keith McMillen QuNexus keyboard for manual playing, and the Korg SQ-1 for sequencing.

The POLY engine gives you per-voice control over amplitude and filter envelopes, allowing you to sculpt raw samples into beautifully playable synth patches.

--

🎵 What's inside this video:

• Track 1: Demonstrating the core mechanics and envelope shaping of the POLY engine using a built-in stock sample.

• Track 2: A quick, live workflow showing how to sample an external acoustic instrument (my mandolin) using the S-4’s internal microphone and instantly flip it into a polyphonic synth patch.

This entire performance was recorded live in one take, with light mixing and mastering finished in Pro Tools. The video is fully annotated throughout so you can easily follow the exact parameters and routing I'm altering in real-time.

If you enjoy these deep dives into the S-4, please consider liking the video, subscribing to the channel, and leaving a comment with how you’re using your S-4!

Partials & Discrepancies 1.0.5 | New One Revolution Setting Explained

video upload by Unusable Engineering

"A short video showing the new One Revolution setting in Partials & Discrepancies 1.0.5.

This update is a small, but useful. The main new feature is the One Revolution behavior in the slot sequencer when running in clocked modes.

If both KBD Reset and KBD Next are turned on in a clocked mode, the sequencer will now do one full revolution on key down and then stop at the last step.

That opens up some nice behavior depending on the rate:

at higher rates, you can get more static sounds with quite wild transients
at slower rates, it works really nicely for sounds like pads that settle into place over time

This video goes through how it works and shows a few improvised examples.

Version 1.0.5 also includes slightly smoother node dragging.
