Buchla 208r V2 Stored Program Sound Source Module

via this auction

"Buchla 208r V2 Stored Program Sound Source Module in excellent condition. Please study the detailed photos, there are a few minor things like marks on the boat which were there from new but the 208r is in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This 208r was built to the highest standards using the Roman Filippov V2 PCBs. I did many hours, if not days or weeks of research before commissioning this build and chose a very highly respected European tech to build it for me, he has built many of these for many a happy customer and knows these machines inside out. It sounds amazing and is less than a year old.

The 208r is an exact clone of the 208 from the original 1970s Buchla Music Easel. The only difference I know of is it has a replacement circuit for the uA726 which gives it both better and wider tracking than the original. It is also calibrated to the 1V/OCT standard.

The 208r comes in a powered boat. It has two 1/4" jack outputs, one is a standard large jack output of the main signal out and the other is a dedicated Channel A output which is tapped before the mixer but after the Gate so its possible to do send and return effects processing. It also has a 1/4" jack input for a passive foot-pedal or switch which enables an internal gate signal to be sent to the envelope."

[LIVE] Borrowed Buchla + TR-606

[LIVE] Borrowed Buchla + TR-606 from Noise Jockey on Vimeo.

"Simple jam with a friend's Buchla 200 system, using only the Roland TR-606 drum machine to drive the Buchla 208r (LT trigger activates the 208r's Pulser, HT trigger "pings" the FM modulation index). Drone/bass voice from the Buchla 25S, modulated by the Buchla 281r, mixed with the 606 in the Buchla 207r. Despite all the other modules and cables pictured, no other components were used. No post-processing or mastering other than normalization to -0.3 dB."

Note the 208r is Roman Filippov's clone of the original Buchla Music Easel.

Buchla 208r Rev 1 Buchla Easel Clone

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Buchla 208r rev 1 in very good condition.

Built by Roman and calibrated for 1/volt per octave so it's compatible with the Eurorack pitch standard.

Works perfectly and sounds incredible.

This is the sound generator part of the Buchla Music Easel.
The rev 1 clones do not have active card slots.

There is a very minor bend in the metal just above the period slider. It does not affect the functionality, and could easily be pushed back into shape.

Module is mounted in a very rudimentary box."

Buchla 208r - Easel Sound Engine Clone by Roman Filippov

via this auction

"Buchla 208r in excellent condition. Built by Roman. Works perfectly and sounds incredible. This is the sound making part of a buchla easel minus the keyboard. Just like any other synth module it can be played from triggers and voltage..this one is calibrated to standard 1v/ octave to play with 'normal' gear, but can easlily be set back to buchla standard. If you want buchla sounds but don't want to go all the way down the rabbit hole this is a great way to do it."

Word is this is closer to the original Buchla Music Easel, compared to the BEMI Easel, as it is a direct clone of the original.

New Model 416 Meta Expander for the BEMI Buchla Music Easel

via guyd2.com

"The Model 416 Meta Expander is a fully-fledged, standalone breakout-box for the BEMI Music Easel, which provides access to all of the Easel- and Program Card's patch points (effectively doubling the Easel's control voltage possibilities), and greatly extends the Easel's capabilities by having several useful modules build in.

The Model 416 Meta Expander communicates bi-directionally with the Easel by means of a custom-designed Edge Card and a 60-pin flat ribbon cable.

A quick rundown of the Model 416 Meta Expander's capabilities:

Doubling the Easel's patch panel CV's (pitch, timbre, period, etc), with modulation depth controls. This then allows to modulate these parameters with [at least] two sources simultaneously.

Bringing out extra patch points not accessible on the Easel's patch panel. Full control over the Envelope's Attack, Sustain & Release. Voltage control over the Complex Osc's Waveshape Level. Access to all of the Sequencer's steps, and control over its number of Stages. Access to Random Voltages 3 & 4 (the Easel's patch panel only provides RV's 1 & 2).

Trigger inputs for the Sequencer, Envelope, Pulser & Random, opening up the Easel to external synchronisation.
Full voltage control over most of the Easel's switches.

In addition, the Model 416 Meta Expander offers extra custom-designed modules to vastly expand upon the Easel's features:

Two fast Comparators, with threshold control, for pulse generation, with both 3.5mm & banana inputs, separate outputs (2ms @ 10V), as well as a combined output (A+B). They can drive any triggerable module in the Easel.

A Noise module with White, Pink-ish and Slow-Varying Random outputs. Since White & Pink Noise are simultaneously available at Tini-jax & banana outputs, they can serve as both modulation- and audio sources. Slow Random is available at several patch points across the panel.

Buchla Music Easel 218R 208R rev1 in Haliburton Case

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Buchla Easel Clone rev 1. It is powered and housed in a Zero Halliburton case. It was repurposed from a former photographer and you can see some notes on the inside of the top case. The wiring for the case has not been finished or started. It is a larger case with the idea that you could put 1-200 module next to the 218r (again not finished). The Easel itself (218r 208r) is powered. The IEC power cable comes out the back. The Synth sounds fantastic and is very much alive. The bass is insane! Reverb is dark... I like the "swampy" sound of the rev 1. This was supposedly built by Roman but I can't prove that. FULL DISCLOSURE --- Other things to note, all of the sequencer notes light up but the step it is on lights up brighter. Tracking over 3 octaves can sometimes go out of tune (probably would benefit a calibration but it is not necessary). Sometimes the pulsar does not trigger when you self trigger it (this is a known issue with some REV 1). Includes Pomona Cables and Banana short plugs. Everything you need to get started."

Buchla 208r Module Version 1

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Pics of the inside below.

"The 208r Clone is the top half of the Buchla Music Easel as a standalone module built by a very reliable and well-known third party manufacturer. By 'standalone', I mean it still needs a standard Buchla case to receive the correct power, etc., but it is independent of the 218 pressure keyboard that usually comes bundled with it as a complete Music Easel set-up.

It is in excellent condition and lightly used in my home studio since December of 2014 (I am the original owner). It is a version 1 unit, so the Programming Card slot on the top left of the unit IS NON-FUNCTIONAL. This is not because of any misuse from my end; it is the way that it was built and was a known issue when I purchased it. Otherwise everything else is functions perfectly and build quality is fantastic. As I hope the accompanying photos indicate, there's not a scratch on it and it's beautiful to behold."

Black Panel Buchla Music Easel

Some pics of the inside below.

"The 208 is a 208r V1 with NOS vactrols and NOS tropical fish capacitors and Sprauge capacitors for accurate tone. All high quality parts that you won't find in another Easel unless you have the components and build it yourself of course. Comes with Buchla style silver panel if you prefer. Black panel is a little cloudy in spots but hardly noticeable. You can mount this 208r in a shallow boat in your Buchla case, unlike every other version of the 208."

Buchla 208 & 248 with Eurorack Drums

Published on Oct 25, 2019 isvisible isinvisible

"The Buchla 208r being sequenced by itself and a 248r.

The 208r is generating two voices, one a steady bass note using the Modulator Oscillator, the other a more varied one using the audio from the Complex Oscillator being manipulated by the Pulser and EG mixed in the Portabellabz 208 Toolbox.

The Eurorack drums are all being driven by the 208 Toolbox all pulses out, then being multiplied using a Doepfer A-160-5 (clock multiplier), then into a Doepfer A-160-2 (clock divider) to generate different timings into switches for variations for the bass drum, snare and noise. Then the drums are all fed into a Modcan Dual Delay."

Trip to the Catacombs - Buchla timbral improv

Published on Feb 24, 2014 djangosfire·170 videos

"I was inspired by a recent Todd Barton Buchla clip/patch, that featured a 294r 4-Channel Comb Filter... So while exploring a similar idea, using 4x channels of a 295r Comb Filter... I came up with this "Trip to the Catacombs" Buchla timbral improv!

There is allot going on in the patch. But basically, the very CORE of the patch is:

- 258r into a 277r Delay
- 277r Delay into a 295r Comb Filter
- 4 separate channels of the 295r out into 4x separate 292 LPG channels
- 4 LPG channels into a 207r mixer, mixed and panned into stereo
- 207r stereo out into 2x channels of the 227r mixer
- KEY PART OF THE SOUND is I have 4x different 208r Random Voltage outs opening and closing the 4x separate LPG channels!
- also, the 277r delay is feedback into itself... so you get nice repeats.... and remember, the delay out is the ONLY audio going into the 295r comb filter.

Of course, there is sequencing via the 208r, and transposing via 218e Presets (also used to control the cross mod FM amount of the 258r).

Thanks for checking out the vid!!
- Djangosfire"
