KAWAI SX-240 | Analog Synthesizer 1985 | HD DEMO

AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2020 by AnalogAudio1

Synthesizer demo of the analog synthesizer Kawai SX-240 from 1985.

I used an original Korg SDD-3000 for delay effects. All the sounds were programmed by me.

The Kawai SX-240 is a nice fully programmable polysynth with interesting analog sounds. Decent Japanese quality from the mid eighties era.
It has MIDI, 2 DCOs, 1 LFO, lowpass filters, 1 Highpass filter, 2 ADSR envelopes and noise. Ensemble effect (chorus), which make full string sounds possible. Useful unisono modes like Poly-8, Poly-4 or monophonic. Split and Layer capabilities. Built in sequencer. The filters are based on SSM chips as the Korg Polysix. Very underrated, it's capable of excellent synth sounds!"

ROLAND CR-8000 Analog Drum Machine 1981 | HD DEMO

Published on Jun 4, 2020 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2020 by AnalogAudio1

The Roland CR-8000 is a programmable analog rhythm box. 8 memories for own patterns. Fill In, Roland DIN sync, TRIG OUT jacks and other nice features. The sound is similar to the Roland TR-808!

The CR-8000 has a great analog sound.

I played the Roland CR-8000 with a small amout of ambience from Lexicon MPX-500. In the intro I played the CR-8000 along with the MPX-500."

PULSER M75 Analog Synthesizer 1977 | HD DEMO

Published on May 21, 2020 AnalogAudio1

M75 or MX-75?

"(c) 2020 by AnalogAudio1

I played the Pulser M75 partly with delay effects from a Korg SDD-3000 (right channel only). Be careful with headphones, it's raw analog power ;-)

The Pulser M75 was manufactured in Japan in 1977 by 'Pulser Corporation'. It's identical to the Multivox MX75. The keyboard has aftertouch ('touch sensor effect') which can control vibrato depth, volume, pitch, growl and such things. It's a monophonic synthesizer with 2 VCOs, 1 Lowpass Filter, 1 VCA, 1 LFO, Sample & Hold, Noise Generator and presets, which you can modify. It's not really free programmable, but you can do some nice things with it: great leads, basses and FX. It has a very pleasing vintage analogue tone. A cool and rare synth!"

YAMAHA SK20 String Machine 1979 | HD DEMO

Published on Mar 20, 2020 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2020 by AnalogAudio1

Synthesizer Demo of the analog synthesizer/string machine YAMAHA SK-20. I played it along with Lexicon MPX500 (reverb) and a Roland DEP-3 (delay).

Yamaha's SK-series are string machines with additional sections (poly-synth, mono-synth, brass, organ, depending on the model). The SK20 a model in the middle. It has "ORGAN", "STRING" and "POLY-SYNTH" sections, they all are mixable. The Poly-Synth section has a nice analog filter (but only one for all voices - finally it's a string synth, not 100% a synthesizer).

A nice layer-string machine!"

CRUMAR BIT99 | Analog Synthesizer 1985 | HD DEMO

Published on Nov 29, 2019 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2019 by AnalogAudio1

Synthesizer demo of the analog synthesizer Crumar Bit99 from 1985.

For reverb effects, a Lexicon MPX 500 was used, along with a Korg SDD-3000 for delay effects. The sounds were programmed by me.

The Bit99 is a nice fully programmable polysynth with warm analog sounds made in Italy. It has been developed by Mario Maggi, the developer of the Elka Synthex! It has a velocity sensitive keyboard and MIDI. 2 DCOs, 2 LFOs, 24dB lowpass filters, 2 ADSR envelopes, noise, make many different sounds possible."

HOHNER RHYTHM 80 | Analog Rhythm Box 1977 | HD DEMO

Published on Oct 17, 2019 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2019 by AnalogAudio1

The Hohner Rhythm-80 was in the seventies a known and widely used analog rhythm box in Germany. Made by Hohner in Germany/Trossingen, the makers of the Clavinet :-)
There are 20 rhythms, every single rhythm has 4 variations, 80 rhythms in total.
High quality hardware of real wood an metal. The tempo will be shown exactly on the display. BASS and TREBLE controls. FADE OUT button. The cymbals can be muted.

I played the Rhythm-80 with a small amout of ambience from a Lexicon MPX-500."

SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS TOM Vintage Drum Machine 1985 | HD DEMO

Published on Oct 1, 2019 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2019 by AnalogAudio1

This is one of my favourite vintage drum machines.

The Sequential (Circuits) TOM is a great digital drum machine made in USA - similar to the SCI Drumtraks. It has a decent MIDI implementation. The TOM's has 8 samples built in; inserting a sound cartridge, you can have 7 additional samples. A shame, that it does not have individual outputs.

The crispy 8-bit samples sound great. The built in sequencer has a 'tight' groove, it grooves like hell!
I don't mean the 'shuffle' function (there is none). It has a very tight timing!"

YAMAHA SY35 Vector Synthesizer 1992 | HD DEMO

Published on Aug 13, 2019 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2019 by AnalogAudio1

I played the YAMAHA SY35 without any additional effects or eq.

The vector synthesizer Yamaha SY35 came out 1992 and was the successor of the successful SY22. The SY35 has partly new/different waveforms, new and better drum samples (16-bit).

Although instruments like Roland D-50 and Kawai K-1 have joysticks to mix parts of the sound, they are not vector synths. A real vector synth can reproduce the vector moves within a sound program.

The SY35 is a quite simple but effective vector synthesizer - simple to use and to program. No filters. One sound consist of 2 or 4 elements 2 FM (4-op frequency modulation) and 2 AWM (sample playback). You can record a vector move into a patch and play it back with a keystroke. You could edit and loop the vector moves, edit the speed... you can achieve some really interesting, dynamic sounds. Built in effect processor for reverb and delay. The effects can not be tweaked.

You hear sounds created by me and some factory presets."

SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS MULTI-TRAK | Analog Synthesizer 1985 | HD DEMO

Published on Jul 21, 2019 AnalogAudio1

"2019 (c) by AnalogAudio1

Synthesizer demo of the analog synthesizer SCI Multi-Trak from 1985.

For reverb effects, a Lexicon MPX 500 was used, along with a Korg SDD-3000 for delay effects.

The Multi-Trak has 1 VCO per voice (6 voice polyphonic). It also has PWM, 3 ADSRs, 24 dB VCF, noise generator, LFO with different waveforms and a chorus effect. It has a sort of "slimmed down polymodulation": VCF modulation by VCO for dirty and metallic timbres. Unison mode for fat, monophonic sounds. Great "stack mode" allows layering of six different patches. Velocity sensitive keyboard. The Multi-Trak also has a little 6 track sequencer and an arpeggiator built in. The basic sound is very similar to the Six-Trak, but in my opinion it sounds a bit different."

Siel Cruise Vintage Italian Synth (aka Sequential Circuits Fugue)

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Made in Italy, circa 1979.

I first came across this synth after hearing Adrian Utley of Portishead fame raving about it in the below YouTube video from 2008. It’s a lush poly synth and fat mono synth in one and sounds fabulous. The synth was used extensively on Portishead’s album Third (see “The Rip” and the John Carpenter-esque outro of “Machine Gun” in particular).

Totally nails Solina string ensemble as well as John Carpenter-esque sounds, but on top of that you have a bunch of great poly synth sounds and a tweakable monosynth with very fat sounding filters. (Add a dash of effects and this thing really comes alive.) The below AnalogAudio1 videos are great examples."

SIEL MONO Analog Synthesizer 1979 | HD DEMO

Published on Mar 14, 2019 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2019 by AnalogAudio1

I played the Siel Mono partly with reverb effects from a Lexicon MPX 500 and delay effects from a Korg SDD-3000. But no chorus, phaser or other effects involved.

The Siel Mono is a monophonic analog synth made in Italy. It's the only one mono synth from Siel. It has 10 presets (trumpet, flute, violin, you get the idea), but apart from that it's fully programmable. I has one oscillator, a filter with switchable LOWPASS / BANDPASS / HIGHPASS modes - and the best of all - all modes are combinable! 1 LFO, noise generator (white noise). It has a built in CHORUS effect, called "Animator". Very nice portamento effect, reminiscent of ARP Pro DGX and Minimoog. Surprisingly meaty, powerful basic sound. A clearly cutdown version of the Siel Mono is featured in the Siel Cruise."

CRUMAR PERFORMER String Machine 1979 | HD DEMO

Published on Mar 3, 2019 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2019 by AnalogAudio1

Demo of the string machine / analog synthesizer CRUMAR PERFORMER from 1979. I played it along with a Korg SDD-3000 delay (right channel only). In the intro it was played through a Electro-Harmonix Small Stone phase shifter and a Korg SDD-3000.

This Crumar Multiman is the newer version (B) with the softer (SSM) filter, which I prefer. The earlier version A has a ladder filter. But the difference in sound is not that big like you might think. Anyway, a great string machine with big sounds, but easy to carry around. Used by Duran Duran on 'Girls on film'."

JEN SX-1000 SYNTHETONE Analog Synthesizer 1978 | HD DEMO

Published on Dec 9, 2018 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2018 by AnalogAudio1

I played the JEN SX-1000 with reverb effects from a Lexicon MPX 500 and delay effects from a Korg SDD-3000.

The Jen SX-1000 is an Italian monophonic analog synth. It's very basic and simple, it's an entry level synth. 1 oscillator, lowpass filter, noise generator (pink and white noise), 1 LFO with sine waveform, 2 ADSR envelopes. Tuning is very stable. No interface jacks. The basic sound is very similar to the Jen SX-2000 I demonstrated two years ago. If you can find one cheaply like I did, just grab it ;-)"

SOLTON ARRANGER PLUS Analog Groovebox 1987 | HD DEMO

Published on Nov 25, 2018 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2018 by AnalogAudio1

The Solton Arranger Plus is similar to the Solton Programmer 24. It is a drum machine with digital PCM drum samples and integrated arranger, which uses analog sound generation. It was produced in Italy by Ketron in 1987. It has single outputs for bass and drums. You could also play all sounds via MIDI, MIDI-sync to other drum machines possible as well. In the intro I used a delay effect from the Korg SDD-3000. The last sequence used a reverb on the drum output. A nice machine for Italo-pop!"

GEM/LEM PK 4900 String Machine 1979 | HD DEMO

Published on Oct 18, 2018 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2018 by AnalogAudio1

Demo of the GEM/LEM (Galanti Group) PK 4900. Played along with Korg SDD-3000 for delay effects (right channel only).

The rare GEM/LEM PK 4900 is a multikeyboard containing a polyphonic section (called POLYTRON) including a string-ensemble (INSTA-STRINGS) and a monophonic preset synthesizer (called MONOTRON). Both sections are independently tunable, although intervals are not possible. Both sections have their own output on the backside. CHORUS and VIBRATO switchable.

It sounds somewhat cheesy, sometimes like a cheap organ (squarewave sound), but it was a cost effective keyboard back then. Although the strings are called 'Insta-Strings', the strings are completely different from the strings of the LEM Insta-Strings keyboard I demoed two years ago."

YAMAHA YS200 Synthesizer 1988 | HD DEMO

Published on Sep 30, 2018 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2018 by AnalogAudio1

Demo of the YAMAHA YS200 digital synthesizer (frequency modulation synthesis) from 1988. All sounds and all effects came from the YS200, no additional effects were used. I play mostly some strange pads and ambient-like sounds, which I like most on this synth.

The YS200 is an interesting synth with FM synthesis (frequency modulation) with 4-operators and built in 8-track sequencer and built in effects (reverb, delay and distortion, all editable). The desktop version of the YS200 is the Yamaha TQ5 module, which also has an unique design :-)

The YS200 is easy to program thanks to its "EASY EDIT" parameters, which are very effective for sound tweaks. I love its design and sound!"
