YAMAHA SK30 String Machine 1979 | HD DEMO

Published on Apr 2, 2018 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2018 by AnalogAudio1

Synthesizer Demo of the analog synthesizer/string machine YAMAHA SK-30. I played it along with Lexicon MPX500 (reverb) and Korg SDD-3000 (delay).

Yamaha's SK-series are string machines with additional sections (poly-synth, mono-synth, brass, organ, depending on the model). The SK30 was the flagship (the SK50 was just a double manual version of the SK30). It has "ORGAN", "STRING", "POLY-SYNTH" and "MONO-SYNTH" sections, they all are mixable. The Poly-Synth section has a nice analog filter (but only one for all voices - finally it's a string synth, not 100% a synthesizer). In a certain footage/waveform, it even has a highpass filter engaged. The keyboard has aftertouch, which is assignable to LFO intensity or filter cutoff (similar to Yamaha SY-1/2 or Roland SH-2000).

A nice layer-string machine! It's a big beast, it competed with ARP Quadra, Korg Trident, Crumar Multiman, Farfisa Soundmaker and Farfisa Polychrome."

KAWAI K4 | The Most Fascinating Soundscapes | HD DEMO

Re-Published on Feb 21, 2018

"(c) 2018 by AnalogAudio1

Demo of the KAWAI K4 digital synthesizer from 1989 - The Most Fascinating Soundscapes.

All sounds come from a single Kawai K4 played live without additional effects - right from the stereo outputs of the K4. I played sounds programmed by me and some factory sounds.

The Kawai K4 has some excellent pad sounds to offer. Its resonant digital filter sounds very good! The drum section is also very good - you can create unique drum sounds from 2 waveforms per drum voice, which are each variable in waveform, pitch, decay and volume."

SOLTON ECA 2000 | Analog BBD Delay 1978 | HD DEMO

Published on Jan 6, 2018 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2018 by AnalogAudio1

The ECA2000 is an analog BBD delay unit made by SOLTON, Germany. It is completely unknown and very rare, less than 100 were made. It sounds great! Early Solton products were made in Pocking, near Munich. In this area I also have found some other rare and interesting Solton units, like the Programmer 24 and the Project 100 analog synth (which needs a bit work).

I played the ECA 2000 along with a Korg Poly-800 synthesizer."

YAMAHA SK15 String Machine 1979 | HD DEMO

Published on Oct 29, 2017 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2017 by AnalogAudio1

Synthesizer Demo of the analog synthesizer/string machine YAMAHA SK-15. I played with a delay effect from a Korg SDD-3000 (right channel only - the left channel is dry).

Yamaha's SK-series are string machines with additional sections (poly-synth, mono-synth, brass, organ, depending on the model). The SK15 is some kind of cut down version of the SK-20. It has "ORGAN", "STRING" and "POLY-SYNTH" sections, they all are mixable. The Poly-Synth section has a nice analog filter (but only one for all voices). 1 mono output for all sections. A nice string machine! It competed with Crumar Performer and Korg Delta."

QUASIMIDI THE RAVEN MAX Synthesizer 1996 | HD DEMO

Published on Sep 3, 2017 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2017 by AnalogAudio1

I played the Quasimidi Raven without any additional effects or eq. All effects and sounds including the intro come from the Raven Max. I play mainly factory sounds.

The Raven was developed and produced by Quasimidi in Germany in 1996. It was not the first blue synth from Germany ;-). Quasimidi closed its doors in 2000. The Raven has 2 modes: 1. the PERFORMANCE mode, which allows you to combine 4 sounds with 2 effect processors, with arpeggiators to a "performance". 2. the SEQUENCER mode, where you can combine (preset) part patterns (for bass, sequencer, chord, drums...) to achieve new authentic electronica/techno styles. The 2 effect processors are editable and can be added to the single parts. Muting of single parts in realtime possible.

Later, the MAX expansion came out, which expanded the Raven with 1000 new sounds, 64 MB new sample material, new loops and motivs and new OS with new functions. Later Raven keyboards were sold exclusively with the MAX. The Max came out with its own 33 page manual to describe the new functions. And yes, it is possible to create own motivs and patterns, but the concept is clearly designed for the preset user.

Back in the day, the RAVEN was the only way to make techno tracks with one single keyboard, it was the first of its kind. Later, the big manufacturers took Quasimidi's concept further (or should I say they actually stole it?) - Yamaha with the QS300 and CS1x, Roland with the JX-305 Groovesynth, just to name a few.

From 8:15 it gets groovy ;-)"

Vintage Synth Lab VCF-74 Eurorack (Korg Minikorg 700s) Filter Demo

Published on Mar 29, 2017 mylarmelodies

"Being a demo of the very vintage VCF-74, inspired by the Korg Minikorg 700s 'Traveler' dual filter. A 6dB HP & 12dB LP in series, with wonderful natural compression, warm drive characteristics, and a ton of personality. More info & dealers here: http://www.vintagesynthlab.com/eurorack/vcf74
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Korg Traveler Filter pic thanks to Christian Hatvani of https://www.youtube.com/user/AnalogAudio1
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
More info from the folks at VSL:

"The VCF-74 is a 14HP voltage controlled filter in Eurorack format. VCF-74 features a dual analogue high-pass and low-pass filter, cascaded (series, from HP - LP). The discrete diode filter circuit is inspired by the 1970s Univox Mini-Korg synthesizer's "Traveler" filter section which provides warm, organic sound to your modular system. However, this design was not only adapted for Eurorack, but is feature enhanced for a wide array of possible filter characteristics.

A stage boost switch allows you to drive the 2nd filter section (Low-Pass) with a +5.3dB signal boost from the High-Pass output signal creating a warm saturation and varied resonance to signal ratio/dynamics. Independent manual resonance controls per filter section allows you to fine-tune a wide variety of focused sound. Input and Output level controls allow you to optimize dynamic range, including how hard you drive the filter--which drastically changes the dynamic interplay between signal and harmonic resonance. Both High-Pass and Low-Pass circuits have independent cutoff controls. Independent CV inputs for cutoff and resonance of each filter section, and attenuation/gain for CV to cutoff provide superior control over filter behavior. The VCF-74 can be set up as a Low-Pass, High-Pass, or Band-Pass filter. Width of the Band-Pass can be adjusted by simply dialing in the offset controls appropriately."

VINTAGE MOOG MINIMOOG Analog Synthesizer 1979 | HD DEMO

Published on Mar 12, 2017 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2017 by AnalogAudio1

I played the Minimoog D with reverb effects from a Lexicon MPX-500 and delay effects from a Korg SDD-3000.

The Minimoog D is a real classic. It is a monophonic synthesizer with a fat analog sound from USA. It has 3 oscillators, a 24dB Moog lowpass filter, 2 envelopes, noise generator. The third oscillator can be used as LFO with a wide frequency range. The Minimoog D is heard on many, many recordings."

ROLAND SH-5 Analog Synthesizer 1976 | HD DEMO

Published on Jan 26, 2017 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2017 by AnalogAudio1

Demo of the original Roland SH-5 analog monophonic synthesizer.

I played the Roland SH-5 with reverb effects from a Lexicon MPX-500 and delay effects from a Roland DEP-5.

The Roland SH-5 is a monophonic analog synth obviously heavily inspired by the ARP Odyssey. You will find every ARP Odyssey feature plus more features. The sound however, is completely different. A quite flexible synth with typical seventies Roland-Sound!"

YAMAHA VL1 Virtual Acoustic Synthesizer 1993 | HD DEMO

Published on Dec 26, 2016 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2016 by AnalogAudio1

Demo of the YAMAHA VL1 (Version 2) Virtual Acoustic Synthesizer from 1993. All effects are from the VL1. I the last seconds, I played the VL1 along with a vintage Korg Polysix.

The brother of the Yamaha VP1 (just one or two were made). The VL1 is still rare, but available. The sound engine was brand new in 1993 and the synth was quite expensive. Instead of playing samples of real instruments, the VL1 engages a new "physical modelling synthesis" - it calculates models of wood wind instruments. It's a very complex synthesis technique, so the VL1 is just 2 voice polyphonic. The convenience is, that you can tweak parameters of models, which can give you unique results. In 1995, version 2 was released, which had more features. The VL1 has a little brother - the VL7. The sounds you hear in the video were modified by me.

3 Wheels, velocity and aftertouch 4 octave keyboard. The VL1 is duophonic (2 voice polyphonic)."

YAMAHA DX7IIFD Synthesizer 1987 + GREY MATTER E! | HD DEMO

Published on Dec 15, 2016 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2016 by AnalogAudio1

Demo of the YAMAHA DX7IIFD digital synthesizer (frequency modulation synthesis) from 1987. I played it along with a Dynacord DRP 20 (reverb) and sometimes with a Korg SDD-3000 (delay).

The DX7II(F)D was the successor of the classic DX7 from 1983. This unit has the GREY MATTER E! expansion board installed, which was produced in the USA from 1987 to 1989. Even today it adds a lot of useful, additional capabilities to the DX7II(F)D/S. You get 256 RAM memories for patches, 8x multitimbrality (like the Yamaha TX802), chord memory, arpeggiator, a 16-track pattern sequencer (much like the Ensoniq ESQ-1's sequencer) and assignable sliders (assignable to most parameters of the sound engine - frequencies, envelopes, feedback level, operator output levels...).

Without a doubt, this expansion is a 'must have' for real DX7II fans."

JEN SX-2000 Analog Synthesizer 1979 | HD DEMO

Published on Oct 20, 2016 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2016 by AnalogAudio1

I played the JEN SX-2000 with reverb effects from a Dynacord DRP 20 and delay effects from a Korg SDD-3000.

The Jen SX-2000 is an Italian monophonic analog synth with 7 presets. But if you press "preset off", you can create your own sounds. The sound architecture is very simple: 1 VCO, 2 envelopes (for VCF and VCA each), with Attack and Decay, 1 LFO with square/sine waveforms. Resonant lowpass filter. The SX-2000 is actually a cheap analog synth and is very limited, but it has a good basic sound."

Demo of the KORG M3R digital synthesizer from 1989 - The Most Fascinating Soundscapes.

All sounds come from a single Korg M3R played live without additional effects - right from the stereo outputs of the Korg M3R. I played sounds from the following sources:

0:33 - 1:04 M3R factory presets
1:04 - 3:23 Synth 1 (Card Set from Korg)
3:23 - 5:30 Synth 2 (Card Set from Korg)
5:30 - 6:16 Synth 3 (Card Set from Korg)
6:16 - 6:46 L.A. Studio Hits (ROM Card from Key Clique Inc.)
6:46 - 7:11 Sound Effects (Card Set from Korg)
7:11 - 8:48 Environment (Card Set from Korg)
8:48 - 8:59 Akira (ROM Card from Korg)
8:59 - 9:41 World Omnibus (ROM Card from Korg)
9:41 - 9:48 Percussion (Card Set from Korg)

In this video, I tried to play a selection of most fascinating soundscapes from the M3R sound library available. The M3R is very cheap nowadays, it's a good choice if you like digital synth sounds from the nineties!"

ENSONIQ SQ-80 Synthesizer 1987 | HD DEMO | NEW PATCHES

Published on Aug 30, 2016 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2016 by AnalogAudio1

You can buy these patches for your SQ-80 - read the description for further details (scroll down).

Synthesizer demo of the ENSONIQ SQ-80 from 1987.
The intro sequence was produced with the sequencer of the SQ-80 playing sounds from the AnalogAudio1 patch bank. In this movie I play my own sounds - on some sounds I used a small amount of reverb from a Dynacord DRP 20 or/and a Korg SDD-3000 for delay effects (but no other effects like compression or chorus).

The ENSONIQ SQ-80 is an upgraded, enhanced version of the popular ESQ-1 from 1986. You could say, it's a "turbo version". It has more waveforms, a floppy disc drive, more sequencer memory, a phones jack, a lighter casing and other improvements. It still has the same great analog lowpass filters, which sound great when overdriven (like heard in the video). The SQ-80 is a flexible synth. It has 3 oscillators, 4 envelopes, 4 DCAs and 3 LFO's per voice. OSC sync and amplitude modulation possible - like on analog synthesizers. It has a velocity sensitive keyboard and polyphonic aftertouch. Built in pattern sequencer (similar to the one in the Akai MPCs).

LEM INSTA-STRINGS | STRING MACHINE 1975 | HD DEMO

"(c) 2016 by AnalogAudio1

Demo of the LEM (Galanti Group) Insta-Strings. Played with Korg SDD-3000 for delay effects and Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Phase Shifter.

The LEM Insta-Strings is a simple string machine from Italy. I did not search for it, I found it incidentally, I never heard of it before! It seems to be very rare. It has a cheesy string sound, but it surely has character - I love its sound. It has 4 free combinable presets: TUBA, TRUMPET and VIOLIN. Controls for ATTACK, DECAY, VOLUME and BALANCE. The latter is for the volume balance between left and right half of the keyboard (some kind of volume split). Tune knob."
