"A live modular performance of a sample I recorded ages ago with a cz-5000 synth, run through the modular with a sequence played live and the main lead/bass also played live. The other footage came later that night after seeing how the initial performance looked. I realized that I needed to augment it with something interesting and went around my neighborhood recording with a technique I created to actually degrade the sharpness of my lens and add vignetting."

drummy footwork by Caleb Condit

Published on Aug 10, 2013 caleb condit·49 videos

"this was my first attempt at doing anything like this 100% with my modular, and it definitely won't be the last"

via Caleb Condit on Facebook

"3xdotcom osc, stg voltage sequencers, post lawsuit filter for kick, an ssl seguencer for panning all the faster modulations, alot is being controlled with a moog cp251 with attenuation/mixing. I got a lot of the different rhythms using voltage controlled switching, LFO resets and creative CV mixing/offset. Just proves that the "boring" stuff in modulars is what makes exciting music."

blacet time machine

Published on Jun 11, 2013 caleb condit·48 videos

"This was built with a synthcube MU format kit and although it was a serious challenge to finish properly (the hardest thing I've built yet) it was 100% worth it. It's by no means a clean/pristine delay but then again who buys an analog bbd delay expecting that. It's fantastic for sending modulation to and has a great vibe to it. About halfway through, there's no talking and just playing so if that's what you'd like, skip ahead."

STG Mankato Filter Demo

Published on Apr 2, 2013 caleb condit·38 videos

"Complete with barking dogs and a bit of distorted audio when I talk. Sorry the audio is a touch wonky on this. I would have redone this, but I didn't get a chance to check what I'd done till I got home from STG soundlabs and wanted to still share this as this filter doesn't have too many videos and it's an amazing beast."

poncho villa vs the matrix Juno6 + modular + minibrute

Published on Feb 7, 2013 caleb condit·32 videos

"5u moog format modular, a juno 6 and arturia minibrute daytime improvisation. sorry if the EQ is slightly off, I didn't have the headphone jack up high enough on my mixer that was sending audio to my camera's input and I had to EQ out some noise. The layered video is some footage I made with some artists I teach at nearby art center. This was from a matrix re-edit that we ran through a feedback loop"

Juno 6 midi sync tutorial + filter without MIDI

Published on Jan 28, 2013 caleb condit·31 videos

"I go over a couple ways that I've been syncing my Juno 6 to Ableton and adding more in depth modulation to the filter via the arpeggiator clock input and the VCF input on the back. Feel free to hit me up with questions if you like."

Euro+Moogformat=harmony

Published on Dec 11, 2012 by caleb condit
Let this one develop. There are some really nice timbres in it.

"This is day one of me messing with my system after trading out my tempest for a small euro rack system. The Rene is sequencing the z3000 and 3 dotcom oscillators and there's a bunch of modulation going on with the clock and the filters. I'm really excited to have this full spectrum of sound as both systems show their strength and support each other quite nicely.

I filmed this all with a 5dmkii that I tried to hold steady but the shallow depth of field and close focus limitations led to quite a few "artistic" moments :)"

Alpha Juno 1 vs. Juno 6

Published on Nov 29, 2012 by caleb condit

"I'm comparing these two synths, and also illustrating using the VCF (filter frequency) external control and controlling the arpeggiator clock with a xoxbox that synced to ableton to keep the Juno 6 in time with my DAW without using any midi.

This isn't meant to be an artistic thing, more of just showing what these two synths can do technically. Hit me up with any questions you have in the comments.

Before I get a million emails, brownshoesonly (Nick Ciontea) is using a custom LZX industries Visionary Modular. I didn't get footage of Suit and Tie Guy because my camera doesn't work when I go to bed early. Suit and Tie Guy did nourish my mind at his advanced sequencing workshop on Saturday though. Vermona DRM mk3 / analog drum / DUB DEMO

YouTube Published on Aug 30, 2012 by caleb condit

"I'll have a full write up on this synth up at beepbloop.com. I just noticed that there's not very much on this drum synth so I messed around with it for a half hour and am bringing you the tastiest bits. It's typically pretty overlooked in general, but is incredibly capable of all types of tones. I pushed it pretty far into tonal territory for this demo, but I'll follow up with some demos on creating typical analog drum tones.

It's a bit softer edged than some of the vintage roland classics, but that makes it really good for dub and more experimental pieces. Also the tonal parts make it really great for trap, moombahton and other harder genres or things like IDM. There are separate outs for each sound and I really could have run each one to my mixer to for maximum quality to get specific compression for each tone, etc, but for this demo I wanted something more loose and fuzzy.

I do push the mixer pretty hard at moments but I like what it does to the sound. I sequenced the beat on an electribe ER-1, to utilize the classic XOX style sequencing and ran it through an Electro Harmonix Memory Man with Hazarai to get a bit of ambience and the last clip also has a bit of beat repeat in Ableton that I forgot to take off.

Surprisingly the rhythm is the same throughout, but I just tweaked tones to show that even with something fairly unchanging, by just tweaking tones you can really do so much with this module and just faded volume knobs to bring parts in and out. The output works in an interesting way, where the different tones seem to fight each other a bit for what sits on top at times, and it's really nice. Very different from many things I've tried."
