New Dtronics DT-01 Controller for the Roland Boutique D-05, D-50, & D-550

A knob box for your Roland D-05, D-50, & D-550. On a personal note, I recently picked up a D-05 and was thinking about selling it due to the deep menu diving. That and there is no central editing per patch. The D-05 and D-50 are kind of like four synths in one - two "Partials" with an "Upper" and "Lower" voice each for a total of four sources that you edit independently. There is no central filter, no central envelopes, etc., so you are stuck menu diving to edit each part. Think of it like each oscillator having it's own full set of synth parameters - powerful, but a true pain to edit.  Yes you can get the hang of it, but there is no way to avoid the number of additional steps it takes to get to parameters.  This controller appears to solve that problem. It comes in at 299 euro which currently equates to about 339 USD. For those on a budget, Coffeeshopped makes an editor for Patch Base on the iPad.

Details via Dtronics:

"Dtronics DT-01 for Roland Boutique D-05/D-50/D-550

Roland JV-880 and JV-80 Editors Added to Patch Base

via Coffeeshopped

"Patch Base 3.2 adds 2 new editor/librarians for the Roland JV-880 and JV-80. These synths were the beginning of the family tree that led to the JV-1080 and eventually the powerful XV-5080 (which I'm working on support for!). Don Solaris has a great article and diagrams of the evolution of Roland's sample-based synths.

These new editors give you quick access to the 4 Tone layers of each voice, plus the Chorus and Reverb sections, with copy/paste and randomize features as usual. The Rhythm editor allows the construction of 61-part drum kits, each with their own Pitch and Filter envelopes. And in the Performance section, you can set up your 7-part voice performance, plus a Rhythm section. And of course, each of the banks (Voice, Rhythm, and Performance) can be backed up, swapped out, and rearranged in the app, as well.

Thanks to Paolo Di Nicolantonio for the beautiful JV-880 picture. And here are some screenshots of the new editors."

New Yamaha FS1R iPad Editor For Patch Base

Yamaha FS1R Voice Editing with Patch Base

Published on Feb 7, 2018 Coffeeshopped

via Coffeeshopped, makers of Patch Base:

"Patch Base 2.10 adds an editor for the most complex FM synthesizer I've ever encountered: the Yamaha FS1R. This thing is a beast. First of all, it has 8 operators for FM synthesis! Imagine the possible chaos. And, each operator has both a "Voiced" and "Unvoiced" part. The Voiced part is your tone generator (similar to the DX7), and the Unvoiced part is essentially a noise generator with its own envelopes, frequency controls, and bandpass filter. The Voiced part also supports multiple waveforms (the FS1R calls them "spectral" forms), including a formant generator. Basically, you can make this thing sound like it's talking. It is hands-down the most amazing FM synth I've ever used, and I've only begun to scratch the surface of sound design with it.

And starting today, FS1R owners can go deeper with this synth, too. Like the FS1R itself, this editor was the most complex FM editor I've created so far. The current algorithm (out of 88 possibilities!) is shown in the top left, and also serves as the selector for which operator you want to edit. Each operator shows the output levels of the voiced and unvoiced parts of the operator, which helps give an overview of the structure of the patch. With 8 operators, a lot of patches won't even use all of them!.."

Yamaha DX7 FM Synthesizer SN 101098

via this auction

I have a new found appreciation for the DX7 and FM synthesis. I finally got around to exploring my DX-200 again and it offers so much more than your bread and butter sounds. The timbres evolve in a way that actually remind me of the Buchla music easel. I now understand why Barry Shrader explored FM synthesis after the Buchla.

BTW, if you have a DX7 based 6-Op FM synth, I highly recommend the DX7 editor in Patch Base by Coffeeshopped LLC. Be sure to click the little algorithm icon on the bottom left of the editor. It will arrange the operators on screen according to the selected algorithm. You can also double tap any oscillator to bring up a larger screen to edit. If you own an iPad it's a must have editor imo.

Patch Base for iPad Adds Editors for 4 Vintage Roland Synths

iTunes: Patch Base - Coffeeshopped LLC

Roland synths: JV-2080, JV-1080, XP-80, XP-60

"Patch Base 2.6 is available today, bringing editors for 4 Roland synths: JV-2080, JV-1080, XP-80, and XP-60. These synths were incredibly popular in the 90's, and have a lot of sounds that you'll recognize, just scrolling through the presets. According to Wikipedia, "The JV-1080 has been used on more recordings than any other module in history." And according to Legowelt, "If you program [the JV-2080], you can get some really freaky sounds out of it." Now with Patch Base, you can take these old machines to new (freaky) places.

Support for each synth is divided into two editors. The "Patch" editor is the standard synth voice editor, giving access to all voice parameters as well as copy/paste for envelopes and "Tones" (more on this below). The "Rhythm" editor is the drum kit editor, where you can create a kit with 64 different sounds in it, and shape each sound with pitch, filter, and amp envelopes.

Full support for each synth is available as an In-App Purchase, and the purchase of support for a synth unlocks both the Patch and Rhythm editors. For the next few days, these new editors are all 50% off. So check them out!"

New KORG Minilogue Editor for Patch Base

via coffeeshopped

"Patch Base 2.5 is now available, and with it comes an editor for the Korg Minilogue. Now you can visualize any patch on your Minilogue, as well as edit all synth and sequencer parameters. Fetch patches from your synth, create new patches from an init patch, or create random patches to discover new sounds. And as always, you can store your entire patch library on your iPad, and organize it into folders. For the next several days, the In-App Purchase for the Minilogue editor is 50% off.

The top half of the editor shows all of the synth's voice parameters, while the bottom half gives controls for editing both notes and motion sequencing data, complete with copy, paste, randomization, and initialization functions. You can create your own sequences in the editor itself, or use it to perfect a sequence you recorded while playing the Minilogue itself."

Roland JD-Xi editor for Patch Base on iPad

via Coffeeshopped

"The latest update to Patch Base adds a fully-featured program/patch editor for the Roland JD-Xi, bringing the number of supported synths in Patch Base to 30! This new editor is the most complex yet in the Patch Base collection, including support for the JD-Xi's 2 digital synths, analog monosynth, sample-based drum machine, and on-board effects and mixing.

The hundreds of parameters that the JD-Xi uses are all here, allowing for a sound design experience far beyond what's available using the JD-Xi's built-in controls (unless you enjoy hours of menu diving!). All of this control is achieved via a 5-page layout for the editor. In addition to the individual controls, many aspects of your patches can be copied, pasted, and randomized. And as always, Patch Base allows you to store and organize these sounds on your iPad for later use, backup, and sharing."

Korg Volca FM polyphonic synth and Coffee Shopped DX Touch iOS App functionality and limitations

Published on May 12, 2016 Expanding Sound

Spotted this one on discchord.

iTunes: Patch Touch: for Yamaha DX/TX - Coffeeshopped LLC

Note the KORG Volca FM does not currently respond to realtime editing via external editors. Instead, it responds to complete patch dumps. For example also check out the Patch Base editor video with the Volca FM here.

"Korg is releasing a new 3 voice, 6 operator fm synthesizer known as the Volca FM. Fm synthesis was very popular in the 80's with the Synclavier and, of course, the Yamaha DX7: one of the most popular synths of that decade. With 80s music experiencing a renaissance, Korg has made this affordable and fun Volca to bring the sound of the DX7 back into the spotlight.

I own a DX7, and like many others, have always found it difficult to program. However, Coffee Shopped's DX Touch iOS App made it very easy to visualize exactly how fm synthesis works, and made it much easier to make my own patches. When I heard about the Volca FM, I wanted to see if it was possible to make DX Touch work with it. Check out the video to see the results, and don't forget to subscribe! Also Check out our website to get free samples and Ableton Instruments, and stay in the loop with everything going on here at Expanding sound.

Korg Volca FM Edited by Patch Base for iPad

Published on Apr 27, 2016 Coffeeshopped

Note Coffeeshopped LLC also makes an extensive MIDI Sysex file manager: Sysex Base - Coffeeshopped LLC

"A demo of Patch Base on iPad being used to design sounds for the Korg Volca FM. All sound is being created by the Volca FM, and controlled with Patch Base."

Note the Volca FM does not yet support realtime editing so what you are seeing are the edits being sent as patch dumps, hence the pause you hear after every edit. Note this is a limitation of the Volca FM and not the editor.

Spotted this one on the excellent discchord mobile music site.
