Buchla format “Dual Algorithmic Oscillator” Patch Test
Published on Sep 15, 2017 djangosfire
"Patch testing a beautiful 'Dual Algorithmic Oscillator' prototype that Grayscale Modular sent me to try out - essentially two Mutable Instruments 'Braids' in one panel.
Wish I had more time to dig in… but WOW!! This is a PERFECT addition to a Buchla 200e/200r system.
Can’t wait to get one of these for my system…. absolutely incredible - and IMHO a great fit to the Buchla format!
Check out http://www.grayscale.info/buchla/ for more info!
Cheers,

"Working on a new improvised Space Music track, for a double vinyl compilation of electronic music - more soon.
Buchla 200e + Roland RE-301 tape delay + Eventide reverb. Oh yes, and the VCO is a prototype 258e!
Wanted to share a short 'sneak peek' of the process.
You can hear the tape swirling around :)

Euro Buchla 100 Modules - Testing! 01
Published on Jul 11, 2017 djangosfire
"Having a blast beta-testing these euro format Buchla 100 reproductions (for a friend, I did not build these) - Perfect for getting a feel of the patch style used in the early Buchla 100 systems. No filters used, just gates (non-vactrol for the early 110's) - great wide range of tones and timbres - can't wait to try more!!"

277r Delay with CV Filtering
Published on Apr 10, 2017 djangosfire
"Exploring the 277r Buchla format digital delay.
A casual walk through and demo of the 277r using CV to control the delay rate AND a LPG to tame the crunchy tone of the 277r.
Patch:
Audio into 277r, output into 292e LPG, out to mixer.
I use a 256r dual cv processor to send CV to the 277r AND the 292e LPG.
Thank you - Djangosfire
PS - in the vid I keep saying 1/2t inputs.... in fact I meant 'outputs' :)"

Buchla 200e 291e Patched as Slew Processor
Published on Dec 11, 2016 djangosfire
"Buchla 200e 291e Patched as Slew Processor!
Well kind of :) Here is the concept to try:
250e cv split into: 261e VCO CV input, then (using a banana to tinijax converter box) into the 291e ALL input. Then patch the ALL output of the 291e into the FM audio INPUT of the same 261e VCO. Then as you raise the VCA of the 291e.. you can add a sort of slew to the 261e sequence.
I also patched a 210e between the 250e and 291e input... this was to serve as a buffer - which helped stabilize the blending of the 2x CV's back into the 261e.
Of course, more experimentation is required - especially to find the "sweet spot" for the 291e filter cutoff and bandwidth settings. Also - the slew effect is really not very extreme - BUT it works!
I expanded the patch, and used a synced 281e channel to have a sort of rhythmic patch programmed slew.
Thank you for checking out the 200e experiment! I hope this leads to more possible sound for you to discover and use :)
Cheers,
- Djangosfire"

Autumn Layers - Buchla 200e Improv 2016
Published on Oct 5, 2016 djangosfire
"I built up a 200e patch - layers of functions and sounds that intertwine. Its allot like building up an instrument.... and instrument that has never existed. After its patched, its always interesting working through the "layers".
Here's an improv as I work through the layers of this patch.
Just iphone room recording. Instruments/gear used:
- Buchla 200e
- Roland RE-301 Tape Delay
- Kaleidoloop loaded with a 5 minute recording of me walking around Loch Ness
- Output of the 200e into an Eventide Space Reverb
Thank you for listening - it is always a good growing experience sharing my explorations here.
Cheers!

Somber Spectral Processor Growling - Buchla 200e
Published on Sep 20, 2016 djangosfire
"Just a quick patch in honor of Don Buchla. Using the machine, the electronic instrument, designed and created by Mr. Buchla. The patch is focused and built around the 296e Spectral Processor. Almost seems to speak - the output is fed back into itself . . . which leads to interesting, evolving 'vocal-esque' sounds.
Thank you Don Buchla, for providing the devices that have inspired so many musicians and sound explorers.
