Gieskes HSS3 jb Video Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Hard Soft Synth 3jb is the new audio / video synthesizer by noisemaker extraordinaire, Gieskes.

It features 15 modes of audio/video excellence, each with 4-5 variables of control. There are also 8 video-only modes designed for use with the trigger and audio inputs. An adjustable analog filter keeps everything smooth (or as gnarly as you’d like).

The HSS3jb can produce all the same audio and video as the HSS3i, but it adds many more color options and controls as well as a more stable and and colorful video output.

- 15 audio+video modes and 8 video-only modes.
- Audio, IR, and trigger input as well as trigger out. IR with Handmade Music Austin or Gieskes devices,
hook it up to a modular via trigger or use the audio input to control the sounds and video of the HSS3i.
- Analog low-pass filter controlled via photocell.
- MIDI input controls device parameters.
- Circuit bending, color switching, fade, and individual color controls for video.
- New enclosure and more compact design (5.5″ x 3.5″ x 2.5″).
- Outputs NTSC and PAL

The device outputs analog RCA, S-video and VGA but only the RCA is guaranteed to work with any device it is plugged into. Some devices don’t like the peculiar VGA it produces."

Perfect condition. Does not include adapter.

Has internal sounds or can be used with external input.

Frequently Asked Questions

jb?

Gieskes sells a version called the HSS3j. The HSSjb adds glitch switches, the “stable” mode which makes the output solid blocks of color rather than lines, as well as an enclosure.

What does the midi input control?

You can control some variables of the HSS3i over midi. See the user guide for the implementation chart.

What does the audio input do? Is this thing an effect? Can I run my guitar through it?

It’s not an effect but it does allow you to hook up an audio source to trigger off of. The audio input works best with rhythmic sources, but all kinds of sources can create interesting effects. The list of what the inputs do in different modes is in the user guide.

Can the HSS3jb do everything the HSS3i could?

Yes, and more!"

Space Baby Modulated Digital Delay demo

YouTube via WoosterAudio — "February 14, 2010 — Space Baby is a digital delay which will debut at Handmade Music Austin #5 on February 28, 2010 (along with the Bleep Labs PicoPaso). It has dedicated controls for wet/dry mix, delay, and feedback. A rotary encoder is used to adjust delay modulation speed/amplitude, clock source, and ring modulation.

The same simple 8 beat synth line plays throughout the demo. The demo begins with the dry synth sound, and then I start tweaking the delay and feedback controls. Later in the video I enable the ring mod / distortion. The ring mod multiplies the original signal by the delayed signal for unusual clangorous sounds.

The delay modulation and infrared beat sync features are not used in the demo.

MIDI-IR and Space Baby Demo

"WoosterAudio — June 10, 2010 — This is an extended demo of MIDI-IR and the Space Baby digital delay. MIDI-IR is syncing to an instance of the Audio Damage Tattoo drum synth running on a laptop. It is generating an infrared clock to wirelessly drive the Space Baby and Autonomous Base Generator (ABG). The audio output from the ABG synthesizer is fed into the Space Baby.

MIDI-IR and Space Baby are available in both kit and preassembled form at http://woosteraudio.com

Compatible Andromeda Space Rocker devices are available at:

Nebulophone by Bleep Labs

The Nebulophone by Bleep Labs is one of the many Andromeda Space Rockers. Addicted to Noise has a post up on the device including some demos.

On the Andromeda Space Rockers:
"These are a series of small, DIY synths and devices designed by some well-known, Texas-based electronics manufacturers (4ms Pedals, Bleep Labs, Eric Archer, Wooster Audio, Mickey Delp). Introduced to the public at large through Handmade Music Austin last year, they’ve been gaining a fair amount of steam in various electronic communities for their easy-to-build nature and wireless networking ability. Yes, that’s right, wireless networking ability."

SimSam sample-rate-cruncher toy

YouTube via 4mspedals
"Unveiled at the beginner's class at Handmade Music Austin #4 (Jan 2010), the SimSam is a "sample-rate cruncher" that's glitchy as all get-out, but only costs about $8 in parts (including pcb and battery snap). It's an effect with an input and output jack; and it's a noise-maker since a jumper shorts the output back into the input when nothing is plugged into the input jack. We built 28 SimSam's in a couple hours at the workshop... heh heh.. thats a lot of messed up sounds...

The SimSam was designed by Dann Green of 4ms Pedals, and its part of the whole Andromeda thing, even though it doesnt have infrared."
