One Synth One Song: Novation Summit

video upload by Mattias Holmgren

"Welcome to one synth & one song, a new series where we make beats / songs with one selected instrument for each episode. Today we're using the Novation Summit synth to create a little beat.
I've had the Summit for two years now and it's always a pleasure to discover it's potential and sound sculpting.

You can watch my full review of Novation Summit here: [posted here]"

-CALC- The Hungarians - Novation Summit Bi-Timbral Polysynth fooling around with some friends

Uploaded on Sep 20, 2019 -CALC-

"A petite jamette using the Novation Summit.
My prototype unit went to Budapest for some video work and came back with an absolutely killer patch on it. I really wanted to use it and so I came up with this track. (thanks to Yank, Imre and Chromasound!!!)

Here I'm recording Summit's Part B sequence into some flex machines on the OT and then noodling around with a sequence sent to Summit from Circuit.

The Circuit Mono Station chirps up and is set up with a random sequence, thats then sent through the Otobit Jnr pedal.... I LOVE THAT THING.

Towards the end theres a little bit of keys playing to fill the sound out
Octatrack is simply looping the Summit (in reverse) and delivering a rather nice beat.
The (borrowed) Roland TR 08 is thumping it's kick out every so often too. I didn't think I'd like that box quite as much as I do too. For 808 duties its great.
The little mixer to the right of Summit is the excellent Aux expander called 4Mul from Syntherjack, thats really useful too.

Hope you enjoy it

Generative Ambient Riffs with the Novation Summit

video upload by Rhetors

"As part of #Jamuary, I’ve really enjoyed sharing these (mostly) raw jam sessions built from generative sequencing and automation. In this video, I applied a generative sequencer to a Novation Summit patch and did some minor tweaking along the way.

Feel free to turn this on while working, studying, gaming, etc.

Arrangement notes:
- [ ] D minor
- [ ] Novation Summit 'Heliocentric' patch
- [ ] Applied MSB’s 'Live Pong' generative sequencer: https://maxforlive.com/library/device...
- [ ] Applied Stepic to the Summit’s Filter Frequency and Live Pong’s eight note columns, which turn off and on. When the blocks collide, they change directions.
- [ ] Applied Valhalla Supermassive delay to audio signal. I love how this delay fills the air between notes. Reminds me of winter."

Zenith Vol 3 - Patches 96 to 128 - Novation PEAK/Summit.

video upload by GEOSynths

"Out Now - https://www.geosynths.com/novation-peak

That's it, Zenith Vol 3 for the Novation PEAK and Summit is now available. All 128 Patches have been demonstrated over 4 Videos. The PEAK and Summit are incredible Synths and are capable of so much variety...Love it!

It's been a while since I sat down with the Novation PEAK and decided to make Zenith Vol 3, which also works for the Novation Summit. Again, another 128 Patches, however with Vol 2 I concentrated on using the additional Wavetables for the Patches, so had a more "Digital" edge, however with Vol 3, I've just made Patches that I want to hear, play and put into Music.

There's Analog Pads, Poly's, lots of Motion Pads and Stringers. Plenty of Bass & Lead and some beautiful Digital Soundscapes. All 128 Patches have Animate Buttons assigned, often to multiple parameters, as well as Aftertouch and Mod Wheel.

They are compatible with the latest Firmware from Novation (V2.1)

video upload by Syntaur

"Syntaur's head tech Carlos Morales unboxes and shares his first impressions of the new Novation Summit synthesizer. Then Syntaur's Kenneth Frost gives the Summit a test drive, trying out a few of it's factory presets. The Summit is a 16-voice, digital/analog hybrid synthesizer. With three Oxford oscillators per voice, dual analog filters, and the ability to route external audio through it's stunning stereo effects (Analog Distortion, Chorus, Delay, and Reverb), the Summit is one of the best synths of 2021.

Novation Summit - Generative ambient & FM synthesis

video upload by No Lake

"One thing that I haven't tried with this synth yet is a good old meditative generative ambient (for those who aren't familiar with the concept, it's a piece of music created itself from an initial set of musical elements and by specific rules defined by the composer and his machine).

So, I created three self-generating patches that play simultaneously at 40BPM and several sequences with modulation frequencies. The three LFOs are now playing ping-pong with each other. Of course, everything follows predefined rules to avoid a complete mess. They just "modulate together" in harmony. It's basically FM synthesis. But FM can be hazardous, eventful or even crazy. It takes time to reach something pleasant and relaxing.

The Novation Summit and the Novation Peak do have a strong FM engine and these synths can be turned into a modular synthesizer. Then I just had to add some real-time effects on everything and off we go.

It might sound easy, "you just ask the synth to play music for you", but there is a lot of preparation that goes into making it all work. It's far from easy. I mean, anybody would do it overnight otherwise. In fact, you can't just snap your fingers, it often takes more time than creating a new song from scratch. But the result is totally different as you can hear. It is therefore more of an exercise in style. Something that I've always wanted to try and I've had this synth for three years now (almost to the day).

Although, my cup of tea is more about creating melodies than planting a seed and waiting for it to germinate, hoping for the best and wrapped in some technical demo. But when it works, it can be very soothing. I almost fell asleep the first time I listened to the final result^^

It's so much fun though and I'm still a big fan of the genre. It creates something different than usual. Something fresh and unpredictable. So, for those who have 20 minutes to spare, I invite you to use headphones, close your eyes and meditate with me in the ethereal world of procedural music."

Novation Summit - Generative ambient & FM synthesis (part 02)

video upload by No Lake

"Just another try with something a bit weirder and some floating notes on the Push. I turned the comments off because I don't want to be like "buying your interest" but if you wanna share something, don't hesitate to do it on part 01 and I'll answer to you with great pleasure.

Both attemps are available for free on my Bandcamp : https://nolake.bandcamp.com/album/sum..."

Novation Peak/Summit: 50 FREE Custom Wavetables. No Talking

video upload by Anton Anru

"Welcome to the collection of 50 custom wavetables for Novation Peak/Summit. The wavetables give a wide range of tones: from warm, soft, analog-style to bright, metallic, harsh.
The collection expands the sound palette of the synth and gives space for new presets.
The waves sound nice in a 'static mode', and they give a pleasant movement when the Shape is modulated by LFO, Envelope or other sources.

💾 Get the wavetables: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/novation/

Unfortunately, Peak/Summit can store only 10 wavetables, but you may store as many as you want in your Novation Components account, and easily and quickly upload the files to the synth.

Instructions:
- Login into Novation Component website, choose your synth (Peak or Summit).
- Select the 'Wavetable Editor' tab.
- Push 'New Wavetable' and choose 'Upload Wavetable'.
- Locate a file on your computer.
- Push 'Save' - 'Save As' - 'Save'.

Now the file is added into the collection 'My Wavetables'.
You should repeat this action with all wavetables, as there's no function (I hope it will be possible in future) to upload/save several files simultaneously.

- When the collection is ready, choose a wavetable from the left-side panel. You can see it now on the screen.
- Choose a slot in a pop-up menu above the image, where the wavetable will be stored on the synth: 1 - 10.
- Push 'Send to Peak/Summit'.
- You can now listen to how the wavetable sounds. But it's not stored on the synth, it's in 'temporary' memory. If you like the wavetable and want to use it in the future, you should store it.
- On Peak/Summit, go to OSC menu, the very last page. You will see there the current wavetable (as well as other custom ones).
- Push 'Save' button. Now the wavetable is saved in a chosen slot.

Sonic LAB: Novation Summit Synth Review

Published on Aug 19, 2019 sonicstate

"Summit is Novation’s latest synth and takes their Peak 8 voice poly, adds a 61 key keyboard and doubles up the voice count. Effectively Summit is like two Peaks but with more features.
With a 61 key keybed (yes it has aftertouch) Summit has more real estate to add extra controls, and thats the first thing that we get. With Peak, although we have a lot of front panel controls, there’s still a lot of stuff accessed by the section menus.

Summit adds - voice control, FM controls per oscillator, arpeggiator controls, global LFO 3+4 control and envelope looping buttons. This all helps bring more parameters to the fore and is most welcome.
Summit works in four basic modes - single - with up to 16 voices - each with three of the Oxford Oscillators,

Multi: Split - one layer for either side of the split (up to 8 voices)
Multi: Layer - two sounds played as one, with A/B layer
Multi: Dual - Bi-timbral mode each layer can be addressed via a separate MIDI channel
Layers are selected with the A/B buttons - somewhat similar to the way the Sequential the Rev 2 handles it, but with a more positive indication - the pitch and mod wheels, animate buttons all change colour (orange/blue)

Additionally you have an AUX stereo output so layers can be routed to their own stereo pair. Remember, each layer is basically a self-contained Peak - with 8 voices and those lush FX engines (chorus, delay, reverb and distortion).

Another major change to the actual voice is the inclusion of a Dual mode filter - something those familiar with the Oscar (Chris Hugget also designed this) - the 24dB filter can be split into two 12dB filters with a separation controlling the distance between the peaks. It's a fairly unique and interesting sound.

Audio Inputs - we have a stereo input to the engine which can be routed to the mixer/filter/VCA etc, but also now can be routed directly to either FX engine - without the need to for key-down or VCA getting involved. In practice, that means you can run one of the FX engines as a purely external FX processor, which is actually pretty cool. One thing, the settings for this are not stored in the Multi but rather globally.

Speaking of memory - you get 512 single patches (four banks of 128) and 512 multi patches. These are completely independent and dedicated to multis and store the full settings for both engines.

How does is sound?
As with the Peak, there are many, many complex patches available - it's a lovely synth to program, still a little menu-ey, but a synth of this complexity, you have to expect that, but essentially, it's hard to run out of routings, we have the same 16 slot mod matrix, and also a four slot FX mod matrix for modulating FX parameters (level, speed, delay time etc)

For a full review of the Peak - check out our videos.
On the whole, I really like this instrument, it's priced at around £1899/$1999 so it's comparable in price with the 16 voice REV 2, but with three fully featured oscillators per voice, you get more oscillators and therefore more synthesis.

The FX engine speaks to my more ambient leanings, but it's fully capable of a wide range of sounds, with all that extra drive of the original it can get ugly too - if that’s what you want.

A good instrument that follows up on the Peak’s philosophy. Hard to fault.

Novation PEAK Cliffhanger Presets [49-83] - Motion, Bell & Arp | CONFORCE

"Get these presets or a free taster at: https://bit.ly/3F0cTD2

"About the Conforce Novation PEAK/SUMMIT presets
PEAK has easily become one of my favourite hybrid synthesizers, it has a very nice contemporary character and shares the best of both digital and analog. It’s just as good in mono as it is in poly mode and this makes it versatile and forms a strong creative allrounder. PEAK fills a nice gap between all the analog violence and classic FM/PCM synthesizers in my studio and it stands on itself. It has been really inspiring to program these sounds and learn what it is capable of. I tried to look for the boundaries and explore the expressive character without leaning on classic sound references only. The Cliffhanger Volume 1 presets are great from a musical perspective for different electronic genres but they will also appeal to those who like things trippy and experimental. I think this preset pack is nailing pretty much all the sweet spots of the Novation PEAK and SUMMIT according to my audio standards.

Don’t look further and revitalise your PEAK with fresh patches, it’s the set you want to get! I wish you happy music making.

-128 presets for Novation PEAK/SUMMIT, all categorised.
BASS(12) / POLY(27) / PAD(10) / MOTION & RHYTHM(20) / BELL(5) / ARP(11) / KEY(10) / SFX(23) / DRUM(11)

-10 custom wavetables (these must be uploaded for the corresponding patches)"

synth4ever's 'Ambient Worlds' is a Novation-commissioned custom soundset & sound pack for Peak & Summit digital/analog hybrid synths. With "Ambient Worlds", synth4ever channels his love for ambient chillout music and sound design into a collection of 51 custom patches for musicians to use and enjoy.

With influences ranging from Isao Tomita, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Vangelis, Ulrich Schnauss and more, this ambient sound pack features numerous spacey pads, lush soundscapes, grainy textures, melodic arps, cutting leads, motion loops and experimental SFX. Each patch also has tasteful aftertouch, animate and modwheel assignments to encourage further sonic exploration by the musician.

In creating these patches, synth4ever's goal was to push Novation Peak’s hardware into new sonic territory by leveraging new features in the v1.2 firmware update. As a result, you will find many examples of modulated effects as an integral part of his patch design, and extensive use of the mod matrix to create vast morphing soundscapes.

In his own words, he says: “I aim to create melodic sounds that are pleasing to the ear and which take the listener on a deep emotional journey through electronic music, especially ambient space music”. These varied ambient-focused patches are a result of this vision, and showcase his creative approach to sound design.

"Buy this soundset here http://www.lukeneptune.com/downloads/...

So it turns out that the Novation Summit excels at Synthwave sounds. What a pleasure it was to make these patches.
I hope you enjoy these 107 new sounds for the mighty Novation Summit as much as i enjoyed making them.
I focused mainly on warm, lush, silky, and twinkly type sounds so if that’s your thing then you should give this soundset a listen."
