The Unreleased Quasimidi Polymorph Demo CD

via Zon Pyles on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

"In the late 90s, I was hired by Quasimidi – a synthesizer manufacturer from Germany – to produce a demonstration CD they would use to promote their new synthesizer called the Polymorph.
At this time – at least for the US market - Quasimidi had decided to switch to a direct-marketing approach where musicians would buy these synthesizers direct from the US distributor rather than buying them from music stores.
With this change in marketing, since musicians could no longer go down to the local music store to check out the synth, Quasimidi needed a way for musicians to hear what their new synthesizer, the Polymorph, sounded like.
This is where I come in.
I programmed a new bank of sounds and composed new sequences for the purpose of producing a Polymorph Demo CD so potential customers could hear how this synthesizer sounds and understand how the built-in analog-style step-sequencers worked and fit into the overall design concept of the instrument.
But, the plot thickens.
Right about the time when the Demo CD was finished and about to go to duplication and to whomever requested it from Quasimidi US, I get word that Quasimidi is no longer around.
They are kaput – closed –no longer a synthesizer company.
So, this Quasimidi Polymorph Demo CD was never released.
There is continued interest in this unique synthesizer/sequencer combination so I decided that putting the Demo CD tracks up would help those understand a bit more about the Polymorph and hear how it sounds.
Plus, it’s a nice little bit of synthesizer history that adds another chapter to the long-discontinued Quasimidi Polymorph.
On the first two tracks, my narration explains the features of the instrument and all consecutive tracks are original compositions I played live – with no overdubs – on one Polymorph.
I hope you enjoy them!
Cheers!
Zon Vern Pyles"

Quasimidi POLYMORPH. Old school synthesizer psychodelic sequence

video upload by Mutant Manfred

"Quasimidi Polymorph is not a perfect syntheziser. Has some aliasing and noise. That noise and aliasing is part of its personality. That's why I like it.

The sequence you can hear for the first 50 seconds I created 10 years ago, stored in the synthesizer's memory and forgotten until now.
I have recreated it again now by adding two more layered sound structures (starting from the 50th second).

I created animations to this video. I used Adobe After Effect for this.
Everything edited and coloured in DaVinci Resolve Studio 17.

Recorded straight to an Olympus LS-14 recorder.
No mastering, no external effects. No preset sounds.

Filmed Panasonic Lumix S5 with a Lumix S 50mm f1.8"

Quasimidi POLYMORPH. A great synth from 1999!

video upload by

"This is PolyMorph by Quasimidi. Forgotten German synthesizer produced in 1999. Polymorph is final product of Quasimidi. The company folded in 2000. I wonder out of curiosity what products the company would still be producing today. Even for today polymorph sounds pretty good. I have owned it since 2006."

Quasimidi Polymorph - meditative early morning sequence

video upload by Wine&Synths

"I bought a Quasimidi Polymorph the other day!

Not because I'm crazy, but there is an interesting personal story behind this Quasimidi thing, that will soon be revealed! Watch out for more and make sure to subscribe to this channel!

Usually I wake up around three in the morning due to a major failure in my neuronal subroutines. Since I can't change it anymore, I like to use this time before dawn to noodle around on my synths, just to get lost in sound. And who said, that musical therapy can't be done with synths? So I'd like to share this moment with you!

Polymorph is probably the rarest Quasimidi synth to find nowadays. As the prices are rising fast, try to get one while you can! And it's probably the best sounding synth Quasimidi ever made. If you are into dawless jamming, Polymorph might be your friend, thanks to its 4 independent analogue style sequencer lines per sound, which allow you to modulate practically all the synth and FX parameters. This is instant fun and so typical for Joerg Schaafs approach to real-time sequencing! Of course, MIDI data is also sent to external gear, if you need it.

The Polymorph sound is not really 'analogue' but if you know how to use the built-in EQ and FX, you can get powerful synth sounds with quite some digital dirt out of it. Polymorph has got four single outs for each part and even has audio inputs to process external sounds. That's kind of professional!"

Indigo Redback & Polymorph - Sequence Jam I.avi

YouTube via RanKirlian
"This one is a raw track I prepared for 1 hour or so on a sunday evening while I was tweaking the Polymorph. First string pad is from Quasimidi Polymorph, played via midi from the Access Indigo 2, who also starts sounding on 00:43. Then, on minute 1:29 enters the first sequence, bass sequence comes at 2:09 and shortly after appears the last sequence.

While this is not a very elaborated track, I wanted to share it mostly as a Polymorph demo, a great sounding machine and a great fun sequencer."

Indigo Redback & Polymorph - Sequence Jam II

"Another jam with Access Indigo 2 Redback and Quasimidi Polymorph. The pad and the strings comes from both Redback and a part of the Polymorph. Sequences starts at 1:50.

Same of previous video: not a very elaborated track, but another Polymorph demo, who fits pretty nice on my setup and looks great next to the Redback."

Short song with quasmidi polymorph and 309 rave-o-lution

YouTube via klausito1970

"I used the same sequence on the polymorph as in the short demo but now played random. Drums, percussion and a bassline come from the 309, there is some rythmic noise and another bass sequence from the polymorph."

QUASIMIDI POLYMORPH Demo Video

via this auction. Note this is a five day listing only. You can contact Mark below. Note I have a strict policy of only listing eBay items on the site and recommending Paypal only so you have buyer protection, however this one is in via Mark Jenkins who has been featured a number of times on the site. I'm guessing he is safe.

"QUASIMIDI POLYMORPH rare polyphonic virtual analog MIDI synth/sequencer

Up for sale is my excellent condition QUASIMIDI Polymorph. Designed with input from Klaus Schulze, this basically simulates a Moog Modular synth and multi-channel sequencer. It's four-note polyphonic and multitimbral, playing four different virtual analog synth sounds created from a huge variety of waveshapes. With MIDI In and Out and effects, the Polymorph can create huge synth sounds, multiple steptime patterns, percussion patterns and much more. Sequences can be chained into Songs and edited live while performing.

This unit's in very good condition complete with rack ears and a UK power supply. Some slight front panel and rackmount scratches.

I'd prefer collection in London but I'll ship to the UK, Europe and the USA, after full cleared irreversible payment. I don't accept any payment method which allows unscrupulous buyers to have funds deducted from the seller's bank account while still in possession of their goods, specifically I DON'T ACCEPT PAYPAL, as I only accept payment methods including bank transfer which are subject to UK and international banking regulators.

Feel free to contact me any time while the auction's running to discuss payment, collection or shipping options.

Happy Synthesizing (and Sequencing!)

Quasimidi Polymorph Presets Part 2 - The Sounds

YouTube via Yorkshirelad69.

Part 1 here.

"A tour through some of the first 64 factory presets of the Quasimidi Polymorph.

These should give you an idea of the kinds of sounds this Synth is capable of.

It does sound digital, it can sound analog and it can sound gritty but these featured presets don't really do it justice as they seem designed for use mainly with the demo sequences.

The the final video in the series will concentrate on my own patches and I'll show you what it really can do!

No additional FX units were used, the sound you hear is straight from the Polymorph.

More to follow!"

"This is the true story about how the Quasimidi Polymorph got its name.

Back then, from 1995 to 1998, I was young and naive and getting the job as a product specialist and sound programmer at Quasimidi seemed incredibly cool to me!

What I really experienced there, you will learn in this vide. True synthesizer history!

Quasimidi Nucleus

Title link takes you to the source of the Nucleus shot below. I remember when the Nucleus buzz came out. People, including me, were drooling at the thought of this synth hitting the market. It was never released, and shortly after, the Polymorph was. It's still not clear whether the Nucleus was a Polymorph with keys, more, or something completely different. If you know, feel free to comment. In searching for more info I ran across SYNRISE's page on Quasimidi. It's worth checking out. They also list a QM-One and a Photon prototype Raven, along with the other Quasimidi synths.

Nucleus

Update via erminio in the comments back in 2006: "There's a Nucleus posted on ebay... the owner says there are only 3 pieces in the world. And it seems in good shape too!!! Hope it will serve you m8s"

However, via acemonvw in 2014 in the comments: "The Quasimidi Nucleus was planned as a Polymorph with more voices and a keyboard. What you see at that picture isn't a prototype - it's just the dummy. The Nucleus never reached the prototype level. The project was cancelled shortly after the musicmesse in Frankfurt, where the Nucleus was presented under glass. Does anyone remember the photon? Nearly the same story but a little bit earlier."

Quasimidi PolyMorph Sequence Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The PolyMorph sequencer / synthesizer is a full featured and powerful virtually analog synthesizer that assumes an evolved form and purpose of its breakthrough hit predecessor - the RaveOLution 309! First the sounds: the PolyMorph is four synths loaded with synth and drum sounds geared towards electronica and other forms of synthesizer music. Individual ADSR's and filters per oscillator make for a totally tweakable and flexible synthesizer. The sequencer: 16 step, 8 variations, 4 parts or instruments. Parts and even notes can be muted or changed in real time to build and decompose your grooves or synth textures. There are also preset phrase patterns to play around with.

Aside from sounding amazing, the PolyMorph is beefed up by a great set of effects. Add distortion, EQing, reverb, chorus, flange, etc. to each of the four parts independently! The controls, knobs and sequencer can all be controlled via MIDI for in-studio use, however the impressive multi-effects implementation alone is a major hint that the PolyMorph is a machine suited for live, DJ and on the fly music production."
