Desk Jam No. 1

video upload by Slightly Nasty

"Live jam with the RITM-2, Slightly Nasty Modular, tape loop, Korg Monotribe & Monotron, Roland MKS-7, and Akai S3000XL.

Didn't really know where to go with this one, so there's plenty of desperate noodling on the RITM-2 to in an attempt to buy time."

Vintage Drum Machine Demos & Book - RHYTHM MACHINES The Rise and Fall of the Presets

video upload by Momtnz

"RHYTHM MACHINES - The Rise And Fall Of the Presets - by Alex Graham

Rhythm machines – the precursor to what we in the modern age refer to as a drum machine. This book documents the emergence of the preset pattern electronic rhythm instruments that (for a time) were used as a viable alternative to the drummer. Contained within are the Rhythmates, Rhythm Aces, Rhythm Boxes, Rhythmers, Rhythm Kings, Rhythm Masters, Donca Matics, Mini Pops and many more. Nearly three hundred rhythm instruments are documented here, with over two hundred pictures and information provided on their country of origin, instrument sounds, patterns and features. The book is a ‘must have’ for collectors, vintage instrument enthusiasts and recording artists.

Soviet RITM-2 Synth and Loop Pedal

video upload by Slightly Nasty

"Noticed there weren't many videos of the Soviet/Russian RITM-2 monosynth on Youtube, so here's a little improv that I originally recorded for Insta.

This one I've modded with a suboctave circuit using Soviet-era germanium transistors, which definitely extends the versatility of what is otherwise a fairly limited single-oscillator Moog clone with... 'interesting' build quality.

Reverb is a custom LV2 plugin I've been playing around with with for a little while."

"Vintage mono analog Russian synthesizer in great condition, all functions work with the exception of the lower E flat key having intermittent issues with sticking and likely can be remedied by service on the key action. In addition, all of the controls work but the switches are tight to move and could be adjusted / loosened. In addition, MIDI has been installed on the synthesizer with the details below. To note, power is 220V but can easily be used at 110v with a simple step up / down converter. Thanks!

MIDI INTERFACE INSTALLED: - Adds MIDI IN connector - MIDI LEARN button for fast and easy active midi channel selection - NOTE SCALE CHANGE switch (in MIDI mode for arpeggios)"

E.M.I Ritm-2, analog soviet pizzazz

video by Valmont

"Facts I translated from an obscure russian forum:
- Development started in 1983
- Were made by hand from 1985 to 1992 in the Soviet Union
- 6767 units were built, estimated about 200 to 500 still working tho.
- The factory employed 15 workers: not enough people for a quality build. PCBs were cut and drilled by piles together by hand, the keyboard in an unspeakable handiwork thing...
- SN number starts at 2248 and ends at 9015, so mine is number 91!
- Black models are from the 80's, yellow/white plate ones are usually from the 90s
- Moog-type Ladder Filter (Micromoog or Prodigy?), Moog-inspired envelopes as well

Was just serviced"

Rare AVP Synth PolyRhythm

via this auction

You can find demos of one in previous posts here.

"AVP PolyRhythm dual analog filter + phaser. These are extremely rare as only 20 were ever made. It has two VCFs: Polivoks filter and Ritm-2 filter. It uses authentic Soviet components and circuity in accordance with well-known Soviet synthesizers, produced in USSR back in the 80's and 90's. The Polyvoks has low-pass and band-pass with one input and two outputs (one for each filter) and the Ritm-2 has low-pass with one input and one output. It has an internal LFO and CV inputs for both sides.

One pot was replaced by a certified synthesizer repair store after I accidentally broke it trying to pull off a KickDisk. The replacement pot is the same value and taper as the original.

Power supply included! (For areas of the world with 120V mains)

Specs:
Method of signal processing: analog;
Voltage Controlled Filters (VCF): two types — POLY (Polivoks filter) and RHYTHM (Ritm-2 filter);

Video posted here.

"Ritm-2 is a legendary Soviet synthesizer.A rare Golden hue. All tuned to specification, it was checked and serviced before sales in the best Moscow workshop. OUT sockets replaced to standard Jack (TRS) socket. The lot includes a synthesizer and power cable. Watch my home video.

From the manufacturer's description:

This synthesizer was manufactured by Kirovsky musical instruments' factory in 1984, designer - Viktor Nikulin. The EMI Ritm 2 is an one-voice keyboard synthesizer designed for solo, ensembles and orchestral playing musical compositions of any genre. It can be used both for educational needs and creating different musical effects. This synthesizer can be used with an acoustic amplifier which has a response of 0,775. There is a possibility to use a low frequency amplifier such as radio receiver, TV and tape recorder. The quality of the sounding depends on an acoustic amplifier.

The synthesizer Ritm-2 can play soundings of the other classical instruments (keyboard, strings, reed and percussion instruments). It is intended for creating some specific sounds (wind, noise of surf, train, gun and whine). Using this instrument one can play some compositins with a random pitch and a timbre.
