ladik Waveform Animator Eurorack Module

Published on May 1, 2013 RuprechtM·50 videos

"Waveform Animator - 8x LFO + 8x phase shifter in Eurorack (Doepfer) format.

From one simple input waveform makes 8 "phase shifted" waves.
Sounds like 8 oscillators from one VCO only.
It is not working with square waveforms."

via this auction

"Animator module for eurorack / Doepfer A100 - ladik L-010.

Creates "fat moving sound" from simple tri / saw / sine waveform. Not usable for rectangular shapes.

Think about it as VCO extension - exact tone tuning ensures your VCO and Animator creates 8 phase-shifted and endlessly moving waveshapes summed to Animator´s output.

Sounds like 9 slightly detuned VCOs together, sounds simply FAT (8 shifted waves + 1 original from input).

Contains 8 phase shifters drived by 8 LFOs at 8 different frequencies (34 opamps total).

Try mix two waveforms in different octaves to Animator´s input (sine and triangle for example) - at Animator´s output you´ll get sound like from some kind of ring modulator but softer/milder and moving.

Parallel input (2) and output (2) jacks.

Quality connectors made in England (no cheapo China), durable engraved panel.

Built by me the best way I know. Handy 20cm (8") power cable included.

Width: 8TE/ 8HP/ 40,3mm.

Depth: 70mm /2,8" max.

Current: 90mA max.

Remarks (answers to your questions)

Settings:
There is no need for setting, internal LFO frequencies are spread between 1Hz to 0,01Hz and its frequencies are set in prime numbers ratio to minimize beating. This works well in full VCO audio range from low to high and exact LFO sequence repeats in very long times (in hours).

Stereo:
Infernal spatial sound will be heard if you´ll use two Animators for stereo (parallel inputs from one VCO, outs to left and right channel).
But for following sound processing you´ll need everything twice, i.e. for left and right channel independently (two VCFs, VCAs and so on).

If you have any idea for an custom module let me know. I´m preparing some further modules so stay tuned :)"

Sound is triggered by clicking to front panel or by external drum pad or external audio signal.
Anodized aluminium housing, CNC engraved labeling, darkened (stained) lacquered oak wood sides with wood natural pattern.
Built like a tank :)

Oscillator no.1 - tune + on/off/noise switch
Oscillator no.2 - tune + on/off/slow (can be used as LFO) switch
Filter section (24dB/oct VCF) with tune / modulation (by osc2) / sweep / resonance / decay. Filter is self-resonating at max setting (see part two).
Amplifier section with decay and volume knobs.
Input gain (sensitivity) knob and trigger input connector added against original Synare 3.

Built by me, based on the schematic from service manual with some changes (and improvements).

Clone tech info:
Battery saver circuit is omitted, powered by wall adaptor only, no batteries.
CA3080 OTAs used in orginal are replaced by newer LM13700 with same (or slightly better) performance.
Quality components are used, metalized resistors, polypropylen WIMA and tantal capacitors in signal path (elyts in power source of course), smooth potentiometers, rubbered (softened) buttons.

Great for sampling or live performance or you can use it with analog sequencer/synth
You can connect external drum pad into Trig In connector for live drumming.
Or connect individual output from your drum machine to Synare´s Trig in and "replace" internal sound by Synare´s pure analog sound.
Connectors jack 1/4" (6,3mm): Trig IN, OUT.

Powered by DC 12V wall adaptor (positive center) - protected from wrong polarity.

Dimensions cca 21x13x8cm (cca 8x5x3 inches)."

Happy New Year! The Year in Synths 2013

Happy New Year Everyone!

What a busy year it has been in the world of synths.

This is going to be one doozy of a post, so bear with me. This post is a review of the year in synths for 2013. We begin with Tributes to Those We Lost This Year, followed by New Manufacturers & Makers, Older Manufacturers Added to the Site, New Gear Announcements, Top 10 Posts by Traffic,  My Standout Posts for the Year, and finally This Years' Synth Events. I did my best to keep things as short and concise as possible.

Let's begin with the hardest part of the post.

Tributes to Those We Lost This Year

RIP Bernard Parmegiani - Electronic & Acoustic Composer
Lou Reed RIP
RIP Dick Raaymakers aka Kid Baltan
RIP George Duke - DreamWeaver
RIP Ralph Dyck, Sept 28, 1941 – May 20, 2013
RIP Ray Manzarek

All missed and never to be forgotten. Take a moment to remember them.

------

New Manufacturers & Makers

Starting last January, I decided to keep a running list of every new manufacturer and maker introduced to the site during the year.  This is something I haven't done before and I thought it would be interesting to see how many there were in the year.   It's easy to focus on the big synth announcements throughout the year, but what about all the new makers and brands? I shouln't have to go considerably into the significance of new designers on the scene, so I'll just say two things regarding them.  One, the number of new makers is a direct reflection on the interest in our scene, and two, these are the creators of new gear which directly translate into new designs not previously available to us.  Think about that for a moment.  These are makers and designs that did not exist before.  They are part of our synth history.  So what is the total count of new synth designers for the year? A whopping 113. Think about that a bit. One hundred and thirteen new synth designers and brands this year alone.

Here they are (note a handful date back to 2012, but 2013 marked their momentum and availability):
