"Jump" PROPHET 6 Sequential synthesizer (Dave Smith Instruments) - "Jump" Van Halen keyboard solo

Published on May 21, 2017 Tom Loncaric

"Van Halen 'Jump' played on a Sequential Prophet 6 synthesizer, made by Dave Smith Instruments. The program was created from scratch, it is not a factory preset. The only effect is the bbd delay built into the Prophet 6."

Saving All My Love For You - Whitney Houston 1980s synth cover - Prophet 6 and Yamaha MX49

Published on May 21, 2017 Tom Loncaric

"...more experimentation with my new Sequential Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 6 synthesizer. This time, using MIDI I connected it to a Yamaha MX49, the baby Motif. The Yamaha is providing the perfect DX7 'FullTines' sound, and the secret technique here is that it's combined with a fat analog brass patch on the Prophet. It's a marriage of digital and analog synth sounds, which really captures that 1980s feel, when digital and analog equipment were coexisting in the studios for a while. A bit of 1980s nostalgia..."

Carol of the Synths - ARP Odyssey, Axxe, Omni, SCI Prophet 600, Sequential Prophet 6 synthesizers!

Published on Dec 12, 2019 Tom Loncaric

"'Carol of the Synths' based on 'Carol of the Bells'
A little seasonal cheer improvised on analog synthesizers!

Synthesizers used:
ARP Odyssey Mk II (1976)
ARP Axxe (1978)
ARP Omni (1977]
Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 (1983)
Sequential Prophet 6 (2017)

“Carol of the Bells" is a popular christmas song, with music by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1914 and lyrics by Peter J. Wilhousky. The song is based on the Ukrainian folk chant "Shchedryk". The original folk story related in the song was associated with the coming New Year, which, in pre-Christian Ukraine, was celebrated with the coming of spring in April. The original Ukrainian title translates to "the generous one" or is perhaps derived from the Ukrainian word for bountiful (shchedryj), and tells a tale of a swallow flying into a household to proclaim the bountiful year that the family will have."

PROPHET-10 REV4 Synthesizer - Sound Demo - Vintage old school custom patches, Sequential reissue

Tom Loncaric

"The new Prophet-10 Rev 4 synthesizer! Most of these presets were made by me in the last two days. The Prophet Rev4 is a vintage synth lovers dream! Pretty much every parameter is in the sweet spot.

Everything in this video is performed live, in the spirit of the classic synth tones of 1980’s. I have played many of these same riffs in previous videos, and thought it might be useful to for people to hear them again for comparison purposes.

This Prophet-10 is recorded by an iPad with a Roland GO:MIXER. No eq. The only effect in this video is a Moog Minifooger delay pedal."

Bach on the Prophet 6 Synthesizer - Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring

Published on Nov 22, 2018 Tom Loncaric

"Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is the most common English title of a piece of music derived from a chorale setting of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, BWV 147 ("Heart and Mouth and Deed and Life"), composed by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1723.

Played live on the Dave Smith Instruments Sequential Prophet 6 synthesizer. There is a touch of delay from a Moog pedal and reverb from the Prophet's internal effects.

The sound in the video was inspired by a brass patch I found on a 1983 Sequential Circuits Prophet 600. In order to imitate the timbre of the vintage synth, a few tricks were employed:

Oscillator gain settings are set low in order to not drive the filter too hard. The slop function is on about 25%, and the polymod is modulating oscillator 1 a tiny bit, and both these things give the slight sense of pitch instability found on vintage synthesizers. The high pass filter is cutting some of the low end to imitate the lesser bass response of the old gear. Finally, I added some noise and distortion (!) to match the slight fuzziness of the vintage Prophet."
