UDO Unveils White Super 6 Keyboard & Blue Super 6 Desktop

Press release follows:

"UDO unveils Super 6 keyboard with white colourway complimenting forthcoming flagship alongside special-edition blue Super 6 desktop during SUPERBOOTH23 showcase

BRISTOL, UK: UDO is proud to announce availability of its breakthrough Super 6 keyboard instrument in an alternative white colourway complimenting the SUPERBOOTH23-shown Super Gemini — itself introduced to widespread critical acclaim at the FEZ-Berlin-hosted specialist trade fair in mid-May as a 20 VOICE DUAL LAYER POLYPHONIC BINAURAL ANALOG-HYBRID SYNTHESIZER WITH SUPER-WAVE TECHNOLOGY, tastefully highlighted on its exquisitely-executed control panel framing a custom- engineered ribbon controller and a 61-note semi-weighted keybed with polyphonic aftertouch, all set to take up its rightful position as the British electronic musical instrument company’s flagship product when shipping later this year — alongside a limited number of special-edition blue Super 6 desktop models that perfectly match their blue keyboard counterparts also given the SUPERBOOTH23 showcase treatment in celebration of the forthcoming flagship game changer, as of June 15…

It is fair to say, though, that UDO’s breakthrough Super 6 keyboard instrument made a show-stopping splash upon its introduction to the musical masses assembled at SUPERBOOTH19 in Berlin, Germany, subsequently making its musical mark worldwide when originally released in both black and blue colourways as a 12 VOICE POLYPHONIC BINAURAL ANALOG-HYBRID SYNTHESIZER WITH SUPER-WAVE TECHNOLOGY that really represented a new take on the traditional analogue synthesizer. State-of-the-art FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) digital hardware oscillators are coupled with analogue filters and amplifiers, while its unique super-wavetable core can be shaped and manipulated with the binaural analogue signal path and flexible modulation also on offer. Of course, SUPER 6 features a true stereo path in which its 12 voices are twinned to form six ‘Super’ voices — hence the appropriate appellation applied to the instrument itself. Its L (left) and R (right) OUTPUT channels — and each ear, effectively — are assigned a complete synthesizer voice. So, starting with the stereo OSCILLATORS, parameters of both channels of such voices can be controlled independently, in turn allowing users to create stunning stereo images.

In recognition of the 49-note Fatar keybed-determined footprint of that breakthrough instrument not necessarily suiting everyone’s needs, UDO was quick to follow up with the Super 6 desktop. Designed to take a beautifully re-engineered full-featured Super 6 to an even wider audience by bringing its flexible and immediate control, gorgeous analogue sound, and unrivalled build quality into a more compact package, perfectly housed in an all-metal chassis that also encompasses ergonomic features such as VESA mount compliance, optional 7U rack ears, and robust flip-up feet, it is finished in the same striking white colourway contemporarily applied to UDO’s Super Gemini future flagship — itself set to ship later this year as the second synthesizer in the British electronic musical instrument company’s so-called ‘Super’ series.

Speaking of striking colourways, availability of the white Super 6 alongside a limited number of special-edition blue Super 6 desktop models that perfectly match their blue keyboard counterparts as part of UDO’s Super Gemini launch celebrations coincide with an upcoming firmware update ultimately being brought to the ever- more-colourful Super 6 lineup.

The white Super 6 keyboard is available to order through UDO’s growing global network of stockists (https://www.udo-audio.com/stockists) priced at £2,495.00 GBP (including VAT)/€2,699.00 EUR (including VAT)/$2,700.00 USD, while a limited number of special-edition blue Super 6 desktop models that perfectly match their blue keyboard counterparts are priced at £1,895.00 GBP (including VAT)/€2,079.00 EUR (including VAT)/$2,160.00 USD."

UDO SUPER 6 -- 64 Custom Patches, Sounds & Soundset | Synthesizer Demo

video by synth4ever

"SUPERSONIC - 64 custom patches, sounds & sound bank for the UDO Super 6 by synth4ever.
► Get these patches here: https://www.synth4ever.com/patches

Unleash your UDO Super 6 with SUPERSONIC, a versatile custom soundset comprised of lush soundscapes, ambient/chillout, electronica and IDM-influenced sounds. These 64 patches cover a wide range of sonic territory including pads, leads, strings, sequences, arps, keys, textures, bass and FX.

The Super 6 is a beautiful sounding, versatile and powerful digital/analog hybrid synth, and I tried to push it in new directions when creating many of these patches using firmware v0.26. In addition to traditional "bread and butter" sounds, this UDO Super 6 soundset also includes some experimental motion loops, generative soundscapes and texture-based approaches to sound design.

These 64 custom patches will install to user banks A-H on your UDO SUPER 6, and nearly all contain tasteful aftertouch and pitch bend (positive and negative) modulation assignments. This gives you additional expression and timbre possibilities within the patch itself - so be sure to experiment with these controllers!

Overall, I'm proud of the SUPERSONIC soundset and believe it covers a lot of interesting sonic territory for musicians and listeners alike. Thanks for your interest in and support of my work; I hope you enjoy exploring and performing with these patches on your UDO Super 6 as much as I do on mine, should you wish to acquire them.

NAMM 2020: UDO Super 6 Sounds

Published on Jan 18, 2020 Perfect Circuit

"UDO's Super 6 made another appearance at NAMM 2020, bringing all of its lush, dense sonic charm along with it.

The UDO Super 6 bears a striking visual and sonic resemblance to the classic Roland polysynths of yesteryear‚ with swirling stereo chorus and lush beds of rich pad tones. The FPGA-based DDS oscillators and "super-wavetable" oscillator create an immense amount of motion all their own—but when combined with the analog filters, delay, arpeggiator, and tremendous modulation potential, the Super 6 reveals a vast sonic universe all its own.

In this video we explore variations on some of the Super 6's preset sounds—this is just the tip of the iceberg, and we're excited to see more!

Breath of the clouds | Peaceful ambient music with UDO Super 6

video upload by MIDERA

"Today I had a chance to test out a UDO Super 6 when a friend (Avery) visited. They wanted to check out my Jupiter 6 and borrow a friend's synth which was stowed away at my place for a while. They were kind enough to bring the Super 6 along for the ride.

So what did I think of the Super 6? It's a bit hard to say honestly, if only because it was in my studio for about an hour and I only really messed with it for about 20 minutes total, including playing this.

I found the naming convention similar to that of the DW8000 - where things were sort of not easy to understand right away - like MG for LFO (on the DW and I'm sure other Korg's of the era). Whatever, it's more on me for not understanding that aspect.

I did have this weird sort of thinking that... I actually think the System 8 held up really well - and strangely, I actually am starting to think maybe I like how my System 8 looks. How can this even happen... I don't know. I think once you start bonding with things, even if they don't look great they still are really unique in other ways.

That said, obviously the System 8 is sort of on a lower tier than the Super 6 in terms of build quality and everything else.

I will say that I could understand someone parting with a Jupiter 6, Juno 6/60/106, and System 8 in order to grab the Super 6. It really does a lot of those things well. I am actually wondering why not sell the Jupiter 6 for the Super 6.

So now that's point number 2 - how does the Jupiter 6 compare? Well... I think I'll need to sleep on that. Maybe I'll write something similar with the Jupiter 6 and see how I feel about it. I will say that there is an incredible amount of overlap on the two.

I think the Jupiter 6 looks cooler though :P

And something that I tried to hide (because it showed up at the beginning and I removed it) and did hear somewhat throughout this video... I could hear clicking when I pressed the keys even when the attack was set to very slow. I wonder what that's about or if it's some weird thing with the delay? I don't know."

UDO Super 6 Patch Editor by Sunny Synths

via Sunny Synths

"The objective of this editor and librarian is to support you in your workflow when using the Super 6 synth.

It will bring you the visibility of the saved and actual values of parameters, including all modulations and a direct access to the parameters, including the “Shift” ones.
Each program can have additional information as author, description, category and usage documented. This can be saved and recalled automatically later on.

It provides a Bank manager that allows you to arrange your programs in different banks of 128 programs and to organize them as you want without requiring you to care about slot names, etc… Move, Copy, Swap operations are provided and it is also possible to visualize and copy DDS1/LFO1 waveforms from one program to another.

Finally, a Wave manager allows you to visualize all the Super 6 waveforms present in the synth but also on your computer allowing you to perform copy operations between your computer, the DDS1, LFO1 or any waveform slot.
It is also reading some wav files and provides the ability to convert them to the .ws6 file format.

Important remark:
Due to status of the Super 6 firmware and its Midi implementation (v0.52) the editor will not fully work as it would in an ideal world.
For example, there is no direct access via sysex messages to the Edit buffer which is preventing some direct audible feedback when changing waveforms. To solve this, the A1-P1 program is used as “buffer” for some operations. Another example is that there is no direct access to the individual modulation slots through CC/NRPN messages which is preventing automation of several modulation amounts at once.
At this stage there is also no Save program function from the panel due to the lack of documentation and detailed information on the individual parameters way of working towards the patch file but this is worked on and is the top priority for the next version.

UDO Audio Super 6 12-Voice Polyphonic Binaural Analog-Hybrid Synthesizer 2020 Blue SN S611865

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"UDO's Super 6 is a Roland-inspired, hybrid twelve-voice polysynth with a fully binaural signal path, perfect for creating everything from classic pads and synth key sounds to rich, swarming stereo textures. Using FPGA-based oscillators, an analog filter section, analog VCA section, and 192kHz, 24-bit effects, the Super 6's voice architecture alone is uncommonly powerful and clean. Combined with an intense and well-considered modulation section, Fatar keybed with velocity and aftertouch, and an integrated arpeggiator and sequencer, the Super 6 feels like we're back in the early 1980s imagining what the future of synthesizers would be like.

Each voice's two oscillators are FPGA-based wavetable designs, each with their own special tricks and sound-making possibilities. Oscillator 1 (called DDS1 on the panel) employs UDO's super-wavetable engine: a sort of hybrid of wavetable and super-saw like techniques for creating absurdly huge stereo swarms. DDS1 is, in fact, a single centroid oscillator and six sister oscillators which may be phase-separated across the stereo field for intense, swirling spatial images. User wavetables are supported via import from a computer, so you can truly make the Super 6 sound like whatever you want. Oscillator 2, also DDS-based, provides easy access to traditional waveshapes along with classic synth sound design techniques like hard sync, suboscillator, PWM, and more.

The VCF and VCA sections are fully analog, allowing for classic manipulations of the truly unique sound source. The filter section provides resonant highpass and lowpass filters, which can be coupled together for more traditional bandpass response. The lowpass filter can self-oscillate and allows for key tracking, opening up the possibility for all sorts of gnarly filter FM and sound generation.

Envelope 1 is an invertible HADSR with option for looping, while the second is a classic ADSR. Each envelope can be sent to control multiple destinations, which, in combination with the LFO section and modulation matrix, can make for remarkably complex and singular sound design opportunities.

All of this combined with a velocity and aftertouch-sensitive keybed, sequencer, arpeggiator, MPE compliance, and an outright solid build quality serves to make the Super 6 one of the most compelling polyphonic synths around.

SUPER 6 FEATURES
Twelve-voice polyphonic synthesizer
Classic Roland look and workflow with advanced digital features
Hybrid architecture using a mix of FPGAs and analog processing
Binaural signal path for creating profound, lush stereo textures and movement
Main oscillator with "super wavetable" engine and downloadable waveforms
DDS-based second oscillator with FM, sync, suboscillator, and other classic tone shaping options
Flexible modulation with LFOs, envelopes, and extensive modulation matrix
Stereo 24-bit, 192kHz Roland-style chorus and delay
Fatar keybed with velocity and aftertouch control
Integrated arpeggiator and 64-step sequencer"

UDO Super 6 Synthesizer Demo by Nightlife Electronics

video upload by Nightlife Electronics

"This is a short demo showcasing the wonderful sound of the UDO Super 6 Binaural Synthesizer. A catchy sequence that is transposed by hand and augmented with some live editing of the patch.

The Super 6 is a 12 voice synthesizer that takes a lot of inspiration from classic vintage analog synthesizers. But rather than be content with just remaking the synths of yesteryear, the brilliant team at UDO have taken that inspiration and crafted a modern classic synthesizer with its feet firmly planted in the 21st century. Using state of the art FPGA digital hardware oscillators running at insanely fast clock speeds and analog filters/VCA's they achieve a clarity of sound that instantly stands out while retaining the warm analog goodness that we all love! The Super 6 makes use of this cutting edge technology to push the stereo field to new heights with its Binaural Synthesis; essentially a complete synthesizer signal path per voice that can be phase locked and panned/spread as required. This leads to some truly unique sounds only achievable with the Super 6!

The UDO Super 6 is available now at Nightlife Electronics: https://nightlife-electronics.com/col...

Nightlife Electronics is a shop based in Vancouver, British Columbia that specializes in the sale and service of the world's finest drum machines, synthesizers, eurorack modules and samplers. UDO Super 6 Binaural Hybrid Polysynth Sounds

Published on Mar 2, 2020 Perfect Circuit

"In this video, we take a look at the UDO Super 6, a "12-voice polyphonic binaural analog-hybrid synthesizer with Super-wave technology". And while that might seem like a mouthful, this synth remains accessible and inspiring. Read more about the Super 6 here: https://www.perfectcircuit.com/signal...

Because of its distinctly Roland-inspired design, the Super 6 feels immediately approachable—as if you're interacting with an instrument you've known for ages. Hiding beneath its welcoming exterior, though, is an advanced, state-of-the-art synthesis engine. The Super 6 uses FPGA-based oscillators followed by analog filters/drive, and analog VCA, and high-quality digital effects, providing the best of both analog and digital synthesis methods.

Super waves allow for supersaw-like clusters spread across stereo space, but with any waveform accessible (including a selection of colorful wavetables). But perhaps most interest is the Super 6's binaural capability: in which pairs of voices are assigned to the left and right channels to act as "super voices." These super voices offer the potential for phase-displaced modulation, creating filter sweeps and tremolo that fill up the stereo field with an uncanny organic sound.
All this combined with several options for rich stereo chorus, high-quality stereo delay, and overall remarkable build quality and playing response, the Super-6 at once familiar and strikingly new."

Oberheim OB-X8 & U.D.O. Super 6 similar patches brief sound battle

video upload by synthlegends

"As you might know, I have the OB-X8 only temporally in my studio. Some time ago I used to have a Super 6. Unfortunately I sold it, because I really loved the sound. So I decided to buy it again, when it was still available for the old price. So the OB-X8 will not find place in my studio anymore.
Is the Super 6 a good alternative? Well, it is like comparing oranges with apples. The OB-X8 is a full VCO based analog synthesizer with only discrete analog circuitry. The Super 6 is hybrid with NCO and analog SSM Filter. The Super 6 basic waveforms sound more static than the VCO on the Oberheim for sure. But instead of a wide stereo field like on the Oberheim, the Super 6 has it's binaural mode, which makes also very broad stereoesque sounds.
I tried to program similar sounds, which was not easy. The Pulse Bass and Triangle Piano I got quite well, but the Brass and Pad sounds didn't sound the same. Anyway the Super 6 sounds great and it is very capable to get a very broad sound palette. So, best would be to have both synths, but when I have to decide, I go for the Super 6, because it really sounds interesting and is a very creative sound designing tool.
The OB-X8 ist recorded without FX and processing. The Super 6 has some effects on board (delay and Chorus). I switched those effects off but I played all Sounds in binaural mode. So both synths are without effects and recorded in stereo.

Thanks for watching again and make some music."

U.D.O. SUPER GEMINI & SUPER 6 live performance

video upload by synthlegends

"Live Performance of the U.D.O. Super Gemini in Split mode (first tune) and Dual mode (second tune) plus the Super 6. So I played live three sounds.

The first tune is a 90 ies style rave track with super saw arpeggio and fat octabass sound on Super Gemini plus reso sweep sound on the super 6.

The second tune is a layered piano acompaning with the super 6 arpeggio."

UDO SUPER GEMINI custom performances - no talking

video upload by synthlegends

"In this video I demonstrate my own programmed presets and also one or two factory presets. I played them mainly in DUAL MODE, so I used two presets and layered them. I recorded them via both output pairs for upper and lower sound directly in the audio interface without additional processing or FX. The SUPER GEMINI is a very flexible and great sounding hybrid synthesiser with a lot of insane performance and live tweaking possibilities. You can use up to 8 pedals, the touch strip and a poly aftertouch keyboard for multiple routings. Thanks for watching this video, hope till the ende, because it is quite long."

UDO Super 6 Desktop with the Five12 Vector Sequencer

video upload by Nightlife Electronics

"In this two-part video document we wish to showcase the soothing and pleasant sounds of the magical UDO Super 6 Desktop Synthesizer, under control from the Five12 Vector Sequencer.

The Vector Sequencer is a perfect tool for creating evolving, syncopated and layered midi/cv melodies. It has a lot of really cool tricks that make live composition and improvisation very immediate and fun; things like conditional events, scales, algorithmic pattern generation just to name a few.

It's partner in crime in this video, the UDO Super 6 Desktop, is one of the best sounding modern era synthesizers you can put your hands on. It falls beautifully in that category of synth that oozes with inspiring sounds and fits great in any genre.

Both the Five12 Vector Sequencer and the UDO Super 6 Desktop are available at Nightlife Electronics:
