Arturia KeyStep Pro + Pulsar 23 Modular Patch Building

video upload by allmyfriendsaresynths

"Experimenting with building a patch using my Eurorack modular synth, and the amazing Pulsar-23 drum 'machine' from Soma Lab. All controlled by the @Arturia KeyStep Pro, which is an awesome central bit of gear for a setup like this.

Big thanks to my fellow Glaswegians @Signal Sounds for sending over the Pulsar-23 for me to check out. You can find it on their site at https://www.signalsounds.com/soma-lab..."

the mysterious Lyra-8 (synth review)

video upload by allmyfriendsaresynths

"For the past couple of months I have been experimenting with the mysterious Lyra-8, an 'orgaismic synthesiszer' from @Vlad Kreimer of Soma Lab - and have been very pleasantly surprised at how engaging and exciting it is to play with and explore. Far more than just a drone machine, this is a beautiful instrument which has encouraged me to approach music a bit differently. Check out the video to see what I make of it.

A huge thank you to Signal Sounds (signalsounds.com) for letting me borrow one of their demo units to test. They stock a wide variety of weird and wonderful electronic instruments, and are well worth checking out for yourself."

First Track with the ASM Hydrasynth Explorer

video upload by allmyfriendsaresynths

"I have been experimenting with the ASM Hydrasynth explorer over the past wee while, and so far am rather taken with it. This is the very first track that I wrote and recorded with it. The drums come from the ALM Squid Salmple, and all the melodic stuff comes from the Hydrasynth Explorer.

The video is just a bit of a weird mish-mash of things that came to mind loosely related to Hydra. Hydra... Snakes. Get it?!?!"

Boingg Intro - Monome Norns App

video upload by allmyfriendsaresynths

"The second video in my series looking at different music making applications for Norns is a personal favourite: Boingg. A quick intro of how it works for the curious! I am using the Linnstrument 128 as an alternative grid here, showing that you don't need a Monome Grid for this kind of thing to work.

You can find more info about Boingg, including a download of it, here: https://llllllll.co/t/boingg/26536"

hop skip and jump a lot

video upload by allmyfriendsaresynths

"I hadn't created anything on the OP-1 in a while, so put this together in a couple of hours, and used some samples from the radio which I haven't tried before. I go back and forth between frustration and wonder at the OP-1, as there's so many ways to use it, but I tend to get stuck in the same workflows.

Anyway, here it is."

Dusting off the Tenori:ON

video upload by allmyfriendsaresynths

"Another weirdo sequencer, with weirdo idiosyncracies. The Tenori:ON. A quick and dirty jam for that month that people do jams in.

All sounds etc just from the Tenori:ON. A bit noisier than usual thanks to a dirty PSU.

I post all of the music I make, including WAV stems; sample packs; collections of video textures; early access to videos; and a whole pile of other stuff on Patreon. I know I know, I hate doing this as well, but if you like what I do and want to get more of it, while also helping me offset some of my ludicrous gear purchases, this is the best place to do it:

https://www.patreon.com/allmyfriendsa...

If you just want individual sample packs or downloads of video footage to use in your own projects, get them on Gumroad here: https://gumroad.com/allmyfriends

If you're in the market for new gear, my favourite place to find new and interesting synthesizers and other electronic music gear is Signal Sounds. They are based in Glasgow, but ship all over the place and often have stuff nobody else does. Find them at https://www.signalsounds.com/"

Noodlebox: new favourite sequencer

video upload by allmyfriendsaresynths

"I am a big fan of alternative ways of sequencing, especially those with grids - or with a grid style, and so when I spotted the Noodlebox at Signal Sounds.com I knew I had to buy it. The Noodlebox is a dedicated standalone sequencer specifically designed with Eurorack systems in mind. It has a ton of features, is nice and portable, a really interesting interface, and is probably the best value modular sequencer out there.

In this video I talk about why I bought it, give a bit of a demo of its basic operations, and highlight some of its most interesting features (as well as a couple of things to consider if you're interested in buying one)."

You can find additional Noodlebox posts here.

i quite like this one

video upload by allmyfriendsaresynths

"A track I wrote on the Dirtywave M8. Audio is straight out of the wee beauty - no extra processing. The video was put together with footage that I ran through the MisMatcher Rev 01, and then re-scanned off of some CRT I have. I love how the M8 takes me in such wildly different directions, or at least, it allows me to go so many different ways when making music. I had feared it might just end up being a kind of tarted up LSDJ, but it is far, far more than that. Thanks for taking a listen."

Hatsuyume - Nymphes + Noodlebox (Jamuary 2022)

video upload by allmyfriendsaresynths

"I read somewhere recently that in Japanese, Hatsuyume is the first dream of the new year, and that the outcome of that will bring you corresponding fortune or disfortune. I quite liked that idea, and so called the first 'jam' I did of 2022 after that.

I wanted to put together something using a couple of my latest acquisitions, the Dreadbox Nymphes, and the Sixty Four Pixels Noodlebox. I bought both of these from Signal Sounds back in December. To be honest, I only really discovered the Noodlebox thanks to Signal Sounds. They are my favourite synth shop, very nice people, and local to me in Glasgow. I personally recommend them if you're in the market for new gear. https://www.signalsounds.com/

p.s. I'm not really taking part in Jamuary, as I upload music all the time anyway. It's just a cynical ploy to draw in the Jamuary hunters."

LYRA 8 - Early Explorations (with RE-101 Space Echo)

video upload by allmyfriendsaresynths

"Lately I have been experimenting with the really beautiful but unusual 'organismic synthesizer', the Lyra-8. It's the kind of machine that feels like you can coax it to life... if you just spend enough time on it. Here is a full recording of one of my first sessions exploring its sounds, with a touch of the Roland RE-101 Space Echo for good measure. The video is fairly unpolished, to give you an idea of what it's like to sit and play with the thing for real.

I have to say a big thank you to Signal Sounds in Glasgow for very kindly letting me borrow one of their demo units to try out for myself. They have tons of really interesting gear just like this on their site at https://www.signalsounds.com - and I personally highly recommend them as a repeat customer!"
