Eurorack / Guitar Jam 7 (TX Wiggles 65)

poorness studios

"It's been a while since I did one of these Eurorack/guitar jams. I sent the guitar through 2 delay pedals running at different rates and then a reverb pedal. It gives a very unique sound that blends well with the synth textures."

Poorness Studios Track with the Casio DG-1, Tanpura & Lell Drum Pedal

video upload by Poorness Studios

"I was looking at the last 3 instruments I acquired (an inexpensive box tanpura from India, a vintage Lell drum synth from the USSR, & a Casio DG-1 synth guitar from Japan) and realized it's a really odd combination. Just for the heck of it, I decided to make a track using these 3 instruments. This video is the result. Each of the 3 instruments used in this track has it's own demo video below."

Guitar Bits (TX Wiggles 62)

Published on May 18, 2020 poorness studios

"I was just messing around with Eurorack and guitar this morning and came up with this glitchy combination of sounds. It uses the Dave Smith Mopho & Korg Volca Beats along with the modular and the guitar. The guitar goes into the Pittsburgh InOut and then into the Dwarfcraft Hax and finally through MI Clouds. Both are heavily modulated by various CV sources."

Cigar Box Guitar + Modular Synth: Part II (TX Wiggles 50)

Published on Nov 3, 2019 poorness studios

"I woke up this morning with this cigar box guitar riff in my head so I decided to build a piece around it. The audio comes straight out of the modular synth with no additional processing.

You can find Part I here:"

Cigar Box Guitar + Modular Synth: Part I (TX Wiggles 35)

Published on Sep 22, 2018 poorness studios

"This was kinda fun. I decided to plug my CBG into the modular synth. It goes thru a homemade fuzz pedal, into the Pittsburgh InOut, then thru a Harvestman Polivoks VCF, and finally into MI Clouds. It doesn't really sound like a CBG after all that... but the twang still comes thru.

Synth Guitar w/Traditional FX -vs- Traditional Guitar w/Synth FX

video upload by Poorness Studios

"I had a random thought the other day. Would a synth guitar plugged into traditional effects sound better than a traditional guitar plugged into modular synth effects? Hmmm. I guess there's only one way to find out.

Error Instruments Broken Tape Simulator: Unboxing & Demo

video by poorness studios

"I recently did a review of the Acid Bee from Error Instruments. The owner of the company saw my video and sent me a discount code. I used it to buy this product, the Broken Tape Simulator. It is a super cool lofi effect pedal that emulates a broken tape machine. It's crazy!

Chorus of Glitch (Cracklebox, Sound Scaper, Jarmaggeddon, Mini-KP, Alchemy & guitar)

video upload by Musical Miscellany (Poorness Studios)

"This was just a random idea I had but it came out pretty well. I used the Sound Scaper from Error Instruments along with the Moffenzeef Jarmaggeddon and the Rackit Disintegrated Cracklebox. I used the KORG Mini-KP to process the Cracklebox and then overlayed drums (from the DAW) and soft synth (via Alchemy). Finally, I topped it off with some bitcrushed guitar."

Rubber Band Guitar Meets Modular Synth (DIY instrument)

video upload by Musical Miscellany (Poorness Studios)

"Earlier this week I posted a video of this rubber band instrument I made. In this video, I plug it into my modular synthesizer. It can not only be used to make audio, but also control voltages.

I Made a... Wacky Rubber Band Guitar Thingy (DIY musical instrument)

"Well... I don't know if this type of thing has a name but it sure was fun to build. I'm sure I'm not the first person to come up with this idea but it was certainly fun to figure it out. It's an electric rubber band instrument.

A Halloween Soundscape on Guitar & Synthesizer

poorness studios

"This is just a little festive composition for all my followers. the nature sounds are an audio track I piped in. Most of the repeating random sounds are coming from the modular synthesizer, the pads from the Mopho, and of course, the swells are from the guitar. Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone!"

Can I turn my modular synth into a guitar pedalboard?

Published on Jun 6, 2020 poorness studios

"Well this was a fun experiment. I decide to make a crude guitar pedalboard out of my modular synthesizer. Obviously, you could do this in a much smaller case if that was the intent... but it was a fun experiment nonetheless.

The 6 Eurorack modules I used were: Doepfer A177-2, Pittsburgh InOut, Make Noise Phonogene, Doepfer A-124 Wasp, Alright Devices Chronoblob, & WMD Pro Output. I also used a M Audio SP-2 damper pedal and a Roland EV-5 expression pedal for the foot controls."

Saturday Morning Jam

poorness studios

"Just messing around this morning and I made this noisy piece. I used guitar, modular synth (Eurorack), drum machine (Korg Volca Beats), and Alchemy soft synth (controlled by the MAudio Oxygen25). This was kinda fun.

Recording Acoustic Instruments with GLO

video upload by Poorness Studios

"NOTE: The audio output from GLO goes directly into the camera, so GLO is functioning as the camera's only mic.

I did a video about Phonicbloom's GLO (the polyphonic whale) a little while ago and I decided to use it to record some acoustic instruments (guitar, banjo, ukulele, steel tongue drum, handpan, Native American flute, glockenspiel, harp, and tanpura).

Electric Toy Piano Meets Modular Synthesizer

video by poorness studios

"Ever since I modified this toy piano back in December, I've been waiting to try this. I figured plugging into my Eurorack modular synthesizer would probably create some cool sound textures. The piano's signal goes into the Xaoc Sewastopol II, then into the Make Noise Phonogene, and then into the Calsynth Typhoon before it joins the mix. I used the ADDAC 301 and a damper pedal to start/stop the loop in the Phonogene. I'm pretty pleased with the result.

You can find the toy piano video here:"

DIY Project #51: The Electric Toy Piano

"I took the Best toy piano which I unboxed recently and converted it to an electric toy piano. I used 5 contacts mics (piezo elements) and the wiring components from the Muslady guitar kit I built earlier this year. It worked pretty well and most importantly, it did not affect the acoustic tone at all.

Check out the unboxing video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQgdS...

Gregorian Glitch (TX Wiggles 38)

Published on Dec 30, 2018 poorness studios

"I took audio of a Gregorian chant and sent it through a bitcrusher... it sounded super cool so I did a jam on top of it. I used the modular for processing guitar, the Volca Beats, my Microbrute, and the Jarmaggeddon."

Dreary Tuesday (improv on synth & guitar)

poorness studios

"Just a little improv the pass the time on a rainy day. I used my modular synthesizer, the Korg Volca Beats, the Arturia Microbrute, and my Les Paul for this piece. I was just improvising but I liked it so I decided to record this one."
