Roland Compu Music CMU-800r Like New w. Original Box & Manual SN 284503

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

No mention if it comes with the software.

"Please do your research on this item prior to offering bidding or buying once this is been opened it is not returnable. The listing as a whole is returnable if it is not opened. This is an original sealed Roland brand Compu music synthesizer. Comes as pictured it is brand new in a sealed baggy which is never been opened and I've tried to picture that so that you understand that there are no fingerprints on this it is completely brand new also comes with the original box as pictured and comes with the operation manual which is printed and in a little blue binder as pictured...

The very last picture is the connection required to an old Apple 2 or early Windows computer that is the computer connection that this item has so don't buy this and be disappointed there's other connections on it but that is the computer connection and I don't know how you'll have to connect it unless you have an old vintage computer"

Advocacy For the Much Neglected Casiotone 1000p

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. Advocacy for the much neglected Casiotone 1000p

Uploaded on Jan 16, 2010 SuperDogslave·1 video
via this auction

"I thought that, since there isn't much evidence of this synth on YouTube, I'd give it a bit of what I believe young people call a 'big-up'.

The Casiotone (CT)1000p was the company's early attempt at an affordable additive synth. This was 1982, before the Yamaha brought out the DX7. I love the sound of this board. It has a fairly limited repertoire, but a unique sound nevertheless.

Sealed has written extensively, with inspiring audio samples on his excellent site: http://homepage.mac.com/synth_seal/ht... [link no longer working - looks like it was sealed's old site.]

I'd like to do justice to the CT1000P in a longer more detailed demo. I may do that some day, if no one else beats me to it.

In this particular clip the CT1000P is being lent some dignity by the delay effect of a Yamaha REX50.

Oh, and these synths go for peanuts on ebay.

You can find the user manual at this address: http://generror.wordpress.com/2010/07..."

Casio CZ-1 Spelunking - CZ-1 Easter Eggs

It looks like the Casio CZ-1 has some functional Easter Eggs in it. If you are not familiar with Easter Eggs, in software they are basically hidden or previously unknown features or other functionality. They can be credit rolls of the people that worked in the software, secret levels, a flight simulator in the old version of Microsoft Excell, or in the Casio CZ-1, extra functionality.

"I was in the process of making a program that would let me edit Casio CZ-1 sysex dumps. A Casio CZ-1 is a synthesizer. I wanted the program to also be able to take advantage of any known easter eggs in the CZ-1. I was reading about these easter eggs on the Sealed web pages. Those pages were the basis of all of the studies I have been doing. Without them I wouldn't have even started.

However, those pages left me with a lot of questions, so I started doing bit-by-bit analyses of my CZ-1. I wanted to do a really systematic study of those easter eggs, and to document them better so that they will be more usable. I was originally just doing this for my own interest, but I've wasted so much time on it now that I figure I ought to make it available to everyone.

The easter eggs I'm working on concern the waveform types, the "window function", and the modulation type. For example: There are more basic waveforms than the Casio documentation admits to. The "resonant" waves are created by passing a certain waveform through a window function, and if you manipulate the window function separately you can create all sorts of new waves. Also, if you program the CZ-1 from the front panel you can only combine certain waves. But when you use sysex you can combine any wave with any other wave and run it through any of the windows. And lastly, there are more types of modulation available than Casio has documented. All of these things were written up on the Sealed website, and I just wanted to do more thorough documentation and samples of those things."

Yamaha SY100

Sealed has a post up on the Yamaha SY100 PCM/Vector Synth, an even lower end Vector synth than the SY22 at $99. I have a TG-33 and I know about the SY22, (there once was one in a local classified ad for $0. Yep, free and fully working, but I was too late). So... A Yamaha SY100. I scratched my head a bit, as you might just be doing right now. I don't recall an SY100.... Why? Because it doesn't exist. : ) It's another one of Sealed's dream synths, however this one actually, almost got me. : ) Too many synths, too little time... What's funny is I have reoccuring dreams of synths that do not exist. Call me obsessed. Actually I'll post about a dream I had last night next.

Macbeth Studio Systems M5

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction
"This is the original M5 with the black & orange colour scheme, as used for the ARP2600.

Note that whilst it ‘looks’ like an ARP2600, the M5's 'sound' is more Moog and Oberheim. (The original ARP2600 stole the Moog filter design of course, hence epoxy sealed units, lawsuit, etc...)

IMO it is sonically much more powerful and versatile than the 2600, based on the dual filter design alone, as outlined below.

It has both a Moog 'based' (and classic) transistor ladder 24dB/Oct filter for VCF1, PLUS an Oberheim 'based' State Variable 12dB/Oct filter for VCF2.

As well as dual VCF's, I often used the CV controlled Stereo Pan Amp + Spring Reverb for Stereo FX of one or other, or even a VCF MIX, such that I had 4 audio ‘stems’ per patch for mixing.

A glimpse of the huge flexibility on offer here and that's only on the output... There are more modulation & audio paths possible than I care to mention... 1000's basically!

It has a total of 70 sliders which makes it easier to see the settings at distance for many of the functions, as well as allowing for easier ‘patch mixing’ as one might do or have done on a classic analogue mixing desk. It could be a great educational tool in that regard, or else any synth fan could simply get lost in the possibilities and enjoy the sonic adventures... There is no manual for this synth, so it is assumed you are not a beginner to analogue synthesis & CV control...

As well as using as 2 separate mono synths, the M5 has ‘per Oscillator CV’, allowing you to play 3 note polyphonic chords with the right CV/Gate set-up and opens up another whole area that analogue monosynths can’t access... In Mono mode you can of course easily detune to play ‘fixed’ chords shapes from one note in any case and is great fun to experiment with this alone.

As pictures shows this is a huge synth. As well as the sliders it has 23 rotary/switchable pots and over 100 ¼ jack sockets- not 3.5mm mini-jacks as on the 2600.

I planned to buy as a synth 'for life' but a new venture now requires serious funds. I have had 9 years of sonic fun on this amazing synth and now it can be yours..."

Simmons SDS 9 Synth Drum Kit -- 5 Yellow Pads + MIDI Brain

via this auction

"vintage, working Simmons SDS 9 Drum Kit, with brain, four tom pads, and piston-loaded bass drum pad (with spurs), and a print-out of the manual (that you can also find online)...

My favorite part of the feature-laden SDS 9? That's hard to say. You can trigger any of the brain's 40 kits (20 factory set, 20 user-programmed) by MIDI, or by sequencer, or by the iconic hexagonal pads (in the coveted yellow color); you can play around with all sorts of ADSR/tuning parameters on the individual channels, then save your drum kit settings onto a Data Cassette! (I've included a sealed, unopened maxell cs-500 hd data cassette in this auction for the lucky winner); there's a built-in, fully programmable delay feature, 1985-style, that's not found in other SDS brains; there are individual outs for all of the channels, and you can replace the snare and rim shot EPROMs with whatever other Simmons EPROMs you can win here on the 'bay... and all that's very cool... but to me, perhaps the coolest part of the SDS 9 is the fact that it combines 3 types of vintage synth-drum sounds into one kit... the gritty "computer generated" sounds of the bass drum, the analog circuitry of the earlier brains for the three toms, and the EPROM early-sampling technology for the snare and the rim shot."

Buchla 700 Rare Synthesizer

via this auction

"It has been rumored that there are 12. I have heard that number a bit higher and a bit lower depending on who you ask. There is a Buchla 700 Yahoo group for enthusiasts so there has to be at least a few of them. It is an awesome and truly unique piece of synthesizer gear.

The condition is good. There is a tiny bit of tape residue from the time it spent at JL's repair shop many years ago on the black top and a few of the screws holding down the top panel are missing but easily replaced. The external video monitor output does not work (like about 99% of Buchla 700s). You do not need the monitor to make it work - just touch the panels and off you go. It makes amazing sounds - spatially rich and unlike anything you've heard before. You can hear a LIVE sampling on my myspace site - mainstreetelectricalparade. All the blinking lights work on the bottom and the sensors appear to work well - although it is such a bizarre instrument I am never sure what I am triggering and what is automatic.

It is being sold as a rare vintage instrument. 'As is' condition with no refunds. This is your chance to own an extremely rare experimental instrument. Please do not bid on it if you have no idea what it is.

There is a ton of info on the Buchla here:

Buchla
VSE

Included in the auction: The Buchla 700, a power cable, whatever 3.5" disks I got when I bought it many years ago...a working system 3.5" disk is in the drive currently. "
More via echo7even on AH: "a 700 in this particular condition is a very crippled instrument. The 700 is based around a Graphical User Interface which requires the VSDD chip be operational and a compatable monitor be connected. Otherwise you only get access to the single basic preset and a few of the parameters for the Osc Freq, Index and Filter...the strength of the 700 are the various Osc routings, 12+ X 96 Breakpoint Envelopes (per voice (12)) and user "Timbre Table" generation and the sequencers. other 700 woes are the *sealed membrane*, CEM chips, powersupply, disk drive & backlight. if it works tho it is one of the craziest FM synths ever developed... even has its own phase shifter."

Breakaway Vocalizer 1000

via this auction

"Nearly complete Breakaway Vocalizer 1000 unit, consisting of the original box and styrofoam packing material (a bit beat-up but all there), the Vocalizer 1000 itself, original microphone, 2nd mouthpiece for microphone (humming adapter?), two additional windscreens for microphone (still sealed), a SmartSong cartridge, and an 9v DC adapter. The unit calls for a 7.2v DC adapter, but the previous owner included a 9v adapter in the box that seemed to work just fine. If you are unsure, you can track down a 7.2-7.5v DC adapter at a place like Radio Shack. Not included in the box are the original manual (although I link to a PDF of it below), audio-out cable (nothing special, standard 1/4" cable), RCA-to 1/4" adapters (again, standard), and the studio sign (sorry I never got to see that one!)

The unit itself is in excellent condition and works great. The microphone cable has some styrofoam residue on it that should easily clean off. In the box is an old receipt from a previous owner's purchase and he paid a *fortune* for this thing! :-)

The built-in instruments and beats are fun and typical 80's, but the real power is in using the MIDI-out to control external synths, samplers or even softsynths in your computer. Plus, check out that awesome Adidas-clad 80's dude "James" on the box. He said it's hot and he wouldn't lie.
