Warhawk [C64] music on TI-82 Calculator - HoustonTracker 2

tubesockor

This one is in via @tubesockor

"This is a TI-82 remake of the Commodore 64 soundtrack for the game Warhawk, originally composed by Rob Hubbard in 1986. It is programmed down to the deepest details on a Texas Instruments TI-82 graphing calculator using “HoustonTracker 2”.
I start with a tech dive into how sound is generated on Commodore 64 and the TI calculator (which doesn’t have a sound chip) as well as 1-bit music in general. Then the song appears, including a custom-written visualiser that I made.

Häxa - TI-82 Houstontracker Jazz

video by tubesockor

via @tubesockor

"The jazz drummer Lars Skoglund (La La Lars) released his latest single "Häxa" as sheet music and then let other musicians make their own versions. Here's mine - done on a Texas Instruments TI-82 calculator from 1993.

The calculator doesn't have a sound chip, instead it is using delicate bit flipping on the communications port to make audio, using the tracker "HoustonTracker 2". I've made a previous video about how that works, which includes my cover of the C64 song 'Warhawk':" [posted here]

TherapSID with ASID support! (Plays C64 SID tunes)

video upload by tubesockor

"Since the Twisted Electrons TherapSID firmware is now open source, I have implemented some enhancements to my unit, adding 'ASID' protocol support and performance controls, showcased here. ASID was originally developed as a way of sending Commodore 64 SID files over MIDI to be played back on the Elektron Sidstation.

First few minutes shows the features, then follows some full SID songs. This TherapSID is equipped with two 6581 SIDs, a bit panned to give a stereo effect.

Elektron Syntakt : Chiptune livejam "The Last V8" - C64 SID-style

video upload by tubesockor

"The brand new Elektron Syntakt is here!
I'm doing a brief overview, followed by a SID emulation rendition of Rob Hubbard's theme music for the C64 game "The Last V8" from 1985. Then it grows into a live jam, using all the 12 digital and analog tracks of the Syntakt, including the features such as analog distortion.

I am doing all kinds of trick in order to simulate the SID here and to stay as true to the original as possible. More info in the video!

Model:Samples does Amiga Tracker Music - Crystal Hammer

Published on May 1, 2019 tubesockor

"Recreating the classic Commodore Amiga tracker song 'Crystal Hammer' - on an Elektron Model:Samples. The song was originally written by Karsten Obarski back in 1987.

The first section is a background story about Amiga and trackers in general, as well as the process on how this recreation was done.

All the sounds were converted from the original ST-01 files, and the song data was manually input on the Model:Samples, only using four out of the six available channels (all for the sake of authenticity)

At 3:25, the music starts.

This was made possible thanks to the new firmware update 1.02A, which allows samples to be parameter locked."

TherapSID - more ASID and DeepSID support | Playback and remix C64 SID tunes

video upload by tubesockor

"Here is a new demo with further enhancements to my development version of the ASID support for Twisted Electrons TherapSID. This enables playback of Commodore 64 SID files on the TherapSID hardware and also adds extensive remix capabilities.

Also being demoed is in-development ASID support for DeepSID - the browser-based SID player and database. When released, this means that not only TherapSID but also SidStation, Midibox and Commodore 64 (Station64) owners can playback C64 SID tunes straight from the browser.

Commodore 64 SID Songs played in the video:
0:00 Fjoss V1.1 - Moppe (2002)
1:06 Green Beret - Martin Galway (1986)
3:27 Ballad for Jeff - Shogoon (2023)"

"Did a live cover of Depeche Mode's 'It's Called a Heart' using two Pocket Operators PO-33 and PO-35. The singing parts are played using the PO-35's vocal synthesis.
It took quite some planning and practicing to fit things into these limited devices...

Elektron Analog Heat - USB Class Compliant Audio Walkthrough

Published on Nov 10, 2019 tubesockor

"The Elektron Analog Heat recently got a firmware update (1.20) which enables USB Class Compliant Audio. This means the Heat can be used as an audio insert to an iPhone, let an iPad run audio plugins pre or post the Heat's own processing, be a sound card to a computer or just allow a live recording of the audio coming out of it into a smartphone.

This video covers a walkthrough of the different configurations, with some simple examples of each."

Join in the Chant - Nitzer Ebb cover on PO-12

Published on Dec 9, 2018 tubesockor

"Drums and bass played and jammed like the 2006 Remaster of Nitzer Ebb’s ”Join in the Chant”. Performed on a Teenage Engineering PO-12. Feel free to chant like Douglas McCarthy on top of it.

(This is a bonus recording I had some plans for back in 2016, but never did anything with it, so could just as well make it public two years later...)"

New Frontier [Hubbard/Hall] - on Pocket Operators PO-20 & PO-28

Published on Nov 6, 2016 tubesockor

"Rob Hubbard & Max Hall's "A New Frontier", performed live on Teenage Engineering Pocket Operators PO-20 and PO-28.

Everything filmed in one take as usual.

Two Pocket Operators were used:
* PO-20: Bass, kick, hats, chords bleeps & pads
* PO-28: Lead sounds, background bleeps

Since this song would need a Bb-note, which isn't available on the PO-28, I emulated this by quickly bending a B - always something :)"

Monomachine & PO-28: Hoovering with a Hangover (TDK cover) live performance

video by tubesockor

"The wonderful song "Hoovering with a Hangover" composed by TDK, performed on an Elektron Monomachine and a Teenage Engineering PO-28 Robot Pocket Operator. All recorded live in one take.

The Elektron Monomachine's six tracks is used for drums, bass, chords and bleeps whereas the Pocket Operator is used for the live lead sounds.
I tried to stay as true to TDK's original arrangement (available on the album "Retrospect") as possible. Great fun!"

PO-33 & PO-28: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

tubesockor

"A live version of 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' using the Teenage Engineering PO-33 K.O. loaded with the (soon-to-be-released) sound pack #16operators, plus some solo assistance from PO-28 Robot

I was invited to contribute to the PO-33 sample pack #16operators arranged by @AA Battery where 16 different creators supplied one sample (or kit). Then the purpose was to make one song using this pack as the main component.

In my case I used the PO-33 for almost everything, except the solo parts which are handled by the PO-28 Tonic. All recorded live in one take.

Used sounds from the pack:
* (...will be revealed when sound pack is released)

The sound pack was originally planned to be released before Christmas so I made a Christmas song, but was allowed to post this video as a little preview :)"
