The Harvestman stilton adaptor

"4-Channel floor effects adaptor and instrument amplifier.

The Stilton Adaptor provides level matching for convenient attachment of instrument-level effects devices into a modular signal path. Each channel features up to 30x gain (noninverting), wet/dry crossfade, and a compact two-way TRS connector.

This module requires 1/4" TRS insert cables for bidirectional transmission using effects devices. Instruments and their effects chains can simply be connected with a TS cable.

specifications
Four channels of:
10vpp modular input
10vpp modular output
TRS jack for sending/receiving signal to effects device
Gain adjustment
Wet/dry crossfade
The output on channel 4 is multed for easy feedback loops (just patch it back into an input)
+/-12V Doepfer-style power connector
Panel size: 20HP"

Univox Mini-Korg

images via this auction
"About the Univox MiniKorg -
The Univox Minikorg (Mini-Korg) Monophonic Musical Synthesizer was built by Univox around 1973 (that makes it 35 years old and in perfect working condition!! Talk about vintage!!).

The Minikorg is an exact replica of the Korg 700.

This is a great analog synth that can make some of the most amazing sounds!

This synthesizer goes back to the days of real analog like Moog, Roland, Oberheim, Sequential Circuits, EMS synths, and more!

Of course there is no CV/Gate to be controlled by any other synth, however, if you would like, I could add a MIDI kit that would allow it to connect for $350 more. The kit requires a separate circuit board that allows perfect control over triggering and notes. I could do an easier mod and apply a socket kit and connect a MIDI kit through that but from what I heard the circuit board makes it more reliable and stable.

Many softsynth programs have tried to emulate the sound of an analog (analogue) synth but nothing beats an original! The tone is thick and the bass is heavy. There are many potential sounds that can be made. I have supplied a small variety for you to hear.

I don't believe there were that many of these made or still around and if anything, this keyboard is nearly 35 years old!

Along the front panel are all the controls. Starting from left to right along the bottom, Volume, 2 Travelers (these control the filter operations), Attack (how fast the note sounds), Percussion (how long the note lasts), Scale (32'-2'), Mode (waveform - ramp, square, saw, chorus 1, chorus2), Expand, Bright, Sustain, Bender, Repeat (keeps repeating the note as the key is pressed), Vibrato, Delay Vibrato (auto-delayed vibrato), Portamento, slider for Repeat speed, Vibrato sliders for Speed and Depth amounts, Power switch, Pitch (brings the pitch tune up or down manually).

On the back is a door which conceals the power cord and fuse access. There are also two jacks, one is labelled low and the other is labelled high (these are the outputs)."

"With two oscillators (which can be detuned very far apart) AND sub oscillator per voice, this can get into minimoog territory. Very "phat". 3 LFOs with 4 waveforms. Self-oscillating, resonant low-pass filter. High-pass filter. 3 ADSR envelope generators. Hard AND soft cross modulation. Chord memory. 5 octave keyboard. Pitch and mod wheels. Midi. And tons of patch memory."

Equinoxe Part 7 - extended cover - in stereo!

YouTube via rfoshaug.

KORG M3. I found this one posted on Jean Michel Jarre's blog. He liked this cover and encouraged others to make covers as well.
"Equinoxe 7. Original music composed by Jean Michel Jarre.

Copyright recordings and music reproduced by kind permission of Francis Dreyfus Music and Jean Michel Jarre.

My cover version of Equinoxe 7 starts out as a regular cover - ie. not an exact replica (I generally like to make my own versions) but it follows the concept of the original song quite closely.

But then - about 6:20 into the video - I do a little improvisation based on the nice "Equinoxe groove" that's going on at that moment. A Jarre-trained ear might hear a hint of Jarre's "Arpegiator" from Concerts in China in there. Luckily for you, YouTube has a max limit of 10 minutes per video, because I could go on like that forever. :-)

The left part of the M3's keyboard has been transposed 3 semitones up to allow me to play it in A minor (while the song is actually in C minor). This eliminates the need for pressing any black keys during the sweeps over the keyboard and makes it easier to play that part live. Those sweeps are not exactly as the original song, but close enough. I really wanted to play those live, so I've taken a few artistic liberites. :-)

By converting the video to .flv format before uploading, I was able to keep the stereo sound of the recording.

Arranging and playing this "special edition" of Equinoxe 7 was great fun, and I hope you'll have some fun watching it as well. :-)

Parameter Locks on the Machinedrum

YouTube via bigcitymusic
"Here's an example of the "Extended" mode of the Elektron Machinedrums. You can lock parameters to every step. In this example we locked the pitch of the bass drum to different values to create a bassline. You can also lock other parameters like reverb on one snare hit, change the filter cutoff on two claps but none of the others etc... To do this hit record, choose the instrument (make sure you're in extended mode) Hold the desired step and then change the value of the parameter ou want to "lock" to that step. In this case we changed the pitch of the bass drum for virtually every step. You can also see just how to use the mute function to mute specific tracks, an extremely useful feature for live jamming.
