Sequencing with the A-143-1

Sequencing with the A-143-1 from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"The 143-1 has been nothing but fun since it got here. I've spent the last hour using it as a sequencer of sorts for a self-oscillating Frostwave filter. Instant goth hits!

In this patch, the Plan B Elf LFO's square out is clocking a Doepfer A-160 Clock Divider:

The /2 output is gating the first channel on the A-143-1.
The /4 output is gating the second
The /8 output is gating the third
The /16 output is gating the fourth

The Envelope from the 143-1's first channel is controlling the Low Pass Resonance on a Frostwave Resonator.

The Envelope from the third channel is controlling the High Pass Frequency on the Resonator

The Envelope from the fourth channel is controlling the Low Pass Frequency on the Resonator

The Mix output from the 143-1 is sending CV to a 132-3.

The Resonator is set to self-oscillate, and its Output is sent to the 132-3's Input.

The Opus 3 and the Rogue are a little out of tune, but otherwise dry."

Four synth drone

Four synth drone from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"4 synths, droning away

1. a Moog Rogue (through a Frostwave Resonator)
2. the triangle output of a Plan B Elf LFO (the bass tone)
3. a Korg Super Section (though a Frostwave Blue Ringer)
4. a Moog Opus 3

The A-143-1's first channel (in LFO mode) is acting as a clock source for the A-160 and A-161, which are triggering channels two - four.

The outputs of the 143-1 and the 160/161 pair are modulating both of the Frostwave pedals, as well as triggering an A-140, which is opening the channel on the A-132-3 which the Rogue is running through.

First night with the PLL

First night with the PLL from Peter Speer on Vimeo.
"Goofing around with the Doepfer A-196 Phase Locked Loop module a few hours after it arrived.

Patch:
--Voice of Saturn Sequencer CV Out to Freq CV on Plan B ELF LFO
--ELF LFO Square Out to Trig In on Doepfer A-160 Clock Divider.
--ELF LFO Triangle Out to In 2 on PLL
--/64 Out on A-160 is triggering the first channel on the A-143-1 Complex Envelope Generator (all channels set to AD mode)
--Mix Out on A-143-1 to Gate In on A-140 ADSR
--/32 Out on A-160 is retriggering the A-140
--Output from A-140 sent to CV In on A-132-3
--Comparator Out on A-196 to Input on 132-3
--Output from A-132-3 to computer

Diabolical Acid

"Here's a little acid trip courtesy of Diabolical Devices. Diabolical modded this vintage TR-606 drum machine. It has bass drum pitch, decay, and envelope. The snare drum has pitch, decay and high pass filter controls. There are also controls for a crash cymbal band-pass filter and a system noise level (think noisy reverb).

The Diabolical built Xoxbox, an awesome TB-303 clone, has mods for bass boost, resonance boost, and cross-modulation. This is a pretty evil little setup!"

Yamaha CS-80 - Initial Machine Experiments

"From his liner notes:

Initial Machine Experiments
This peace was played on my Yamaha CS80 synthesiser to test a TEAC half inch eight track machine. This is very much indicative of the kind meandering I get into when locked away with a synthesizer. Someone once said that when you play around with a synthesizer you end up suffering from a disease called 'synthesiseritis'. I suffer happily."

Electribe vs the q960 MOTM 420 combo I Love Chad

YouTube via RothHandle
"A short film of me mumbling around in the studio trying to...create something. The Modular system is getting a bit of a workout. It is a bit of a mutt...Mixing modules from MOTM, Moog and Synthesizers.com...and it is getting worse...I am currently waiting for more stuff to arrive and I expect my musical orientation to didintegrate over the next couple of motnhs as I patch away into the darkness of noise and mono sound.

I love Chad. The country."

Cinematic session 3 Recording the Persephone

YouTube via RothHandle

"I am currently working on a couple of different projects but one of the most interesting and exciting right now is a score for a norwegian film I am working on with the ever so talented Matti Bye. Me and Matti met in the late 90s and we played together in a project called Ingy for a short while. After that we did some music for a silent moviw and then we sorted drifted different and separate ways for a couple of years. Matti is one of swedens most sought after and in demand composers and perormers and he is very active in a wide array of settings, genres and musical styles. He is one of the most talented musicians I have ever had a chance to work with. He is very intuitive, fast and uses his ears more than his fingers a lot of the time which is a wonderful thing for a musician. You start by listening, then you play.

When we met again several years later we had some coffee in the studio and immediately started discussing the idea of playing together again...This resulted in a album called Elephant & Castle which will be released this fall in Sweden. The music on the album is very ,much based around the instruments in the studio. A lot of weird screechy organs, optigans and Mellotrons. It is all sort of dressed in Cirkus clothes... and to top it off we also used the pipe organ a lot. The album was a lot of fun to do so these sessions are sort of an extension of that creativity and energy.

In this film you can see Matti playin a quite odd instrument, the french Persephone which is more or less a ribbon controller with a built in oscillator, fun for the entire family...

This little snippet was filmed using my cell phone. It was shot at Roth Händle studios in Stockholm. If you are curious to know more about the studio, please visit www.roth-handle.nu"

Cinematic Session 3 Recording the Yamaha GS 2 through the MOTM 420 filter

"IN this film you can see Matti playing the elusive and very heavy Yamaha GS-2. This was treated through my spanking new Modular system. In this film the Yamaha is going through the Motm-420 filter and a synthesizers.com reverb"

Cinematic session 3 recording the Mellotron Boys Choir through the MOTM 420 filter

"In this film you can see Matti playing Mellotron 400 #563 with Boys Choir tapes in it. This is going through my Modular set up."
