1950 TUBE Synthesizer/Electronic Musical Novelty

via this auction
"1950's USA tube electronics/radio/hi-fi magazine, fully 154 pages of great projects and brilliant ads. You will love this vintage magazine IF you love tube electronics...audio, radio, test gear etc."

"An Electronic Musical Novelty: Individual Oscillator for each key permits any number of notes up to a full 66-note keyboard." by Jim Kirk.

This LOOKS like a 1950 synthesizer, it uses tubes, I'm sure it will be of interest to all early synth and electronic keyboard folks, and it gives the circuit and power supply circuit you'll need to do the job. Uses a 6SN7 tube, and 5Y3 and VR150 in the power supply."

Update via metasonix in the comments: "I've seen that article. It's an organ, and a very primitive one at that. (Electronic organs were very rare and costly at that time so it had novelty value.)"

"Offered from 1985-86, this is a 6-voice polyphonic programmable analog synthesizer with a 5-octave, 61-note (C-C) keyboard and was one of the last analog synths to have knobs and sliders. There are a total of 25 sliders and two knobs."

Laurie Spiegel plays Alles synth - temporary replacement

video upload by

YouTube via MusicMouse
"Concerto for Self-Accompanying Digital Synthesizer. The instrument is possibly the first realtime digital synthesizer, built at Bell Telephone Labs, NJ by Hal Alles and team, with C language software written by Laurie that processes the player's live input into an ongoing accompaniment that will continue to be played live against.

This is a legal copy uploaded by the owner of the original tape. The OHM DVD's video was taken from this.

For more info on see http://retiary.org/ls/obsolete_systems

For tech info on the synth see:

You might remember the video from this previous post. The original video was suffering from data corruption so Laurie Spiegel uploaded the video again. Be sure to see the comments on YouTube here for more.
