Waldorf MicroWave I vs. MicroWave II

YouTube via Retrosound72

"vintage synth demo by RetroSound

synth comparsion of the Waldorf Microwave I Rev. A (hybrid synth with analog curtis filter CEM3389 from the year 1989) and the Waldorf Microwave II (DSP based synth from the year 1997)

demo with absolute identical sound programs (basses, pads, wavetable sounds, bells, fx sounds...)"

Stereo Small Stone Phaser for Synthesizers

YouTube via Yorkshirelad69. via Andy
"Firstly, click the HQ button for the best quality video & sound!

This mod requires 2 Small Stone Phasers pedals (EH4800).

The mod will make both pedals work together so that you can use both the left and the right outputs on your synth/keyboard rather than just having the phasing effect through just the left/right channel (listen carefully to the sound track).

The phases are synced together and the rate controlled from the master unit.

It's a true stereo signal path and doesn't simply split a mono signal into two.

This is ideal for Jean Michel Jarre fans as the Small Stone Phaser plays an important part in creating his classic Oxygene/Equinoxe pad sound.

Note1: Ignore the slightly odd effect at 0:19 that's not the pedals that's my sound processing!

Note2: The revision on the printed circuit board is EC-4800 Rev.L : this mod may not work on other revisions."

Note the MC-202 behind the shoe.

Note the color scheme of the Chroma Polaris is orange and yellow rather than the typical blue. Rhodes Chroma Keyboard and Expander in the background.

Update via Chris Ryan of the Rhodes Chroma site: "This was a production prototype. See Re: Red Chroma in the August 2001 list archive for what Tony Williams (one of the main designers of the Chroma; see Philip Dodds/Tony Williams Interview) wrote to me on this."

Update via Kurts in the comments:
"Check out Tull's Broadsword and the Beast (analog heavne--Jupiter 8, vocoders, Chroma, etc) from 1982. Ian Anderson's solo record with Peter-John, "Fly By Night 1983 which was wriitten alot on that MC202--Ian had his own samples made for the Linn drum. And "Under Wraps" from 1984. Though maligned at the time by the classic rockers, these are really interesting records- and fearless."

Crowphonics Modular CRO-1 Synth

via this auction

"modular, three square wave VCO, sound and noise making device with frequency modulation (of 2 VCOs), sync type control, attack/release envelope, three vca (one per VCO), 1 square wave LFO and power starve (reducing the power supplied to the 4 oscillator chip for strange dying batteries sounds). It's four intermodulating square waves give a range of sounds from noise to evolving drone sounds to percussive zaps and beeps and more. The patching of modular components is done by bolts emerging from the top of the box in a circuit bent type of style. The patch cords need to be crocodile clips therefore (seven crocodile clips included with the item) . These allow you to patch several sources to a target or vice versa.

This synth is not geared towards playing tunes and will not give the correctly calibrated pitch response to do so. There is no midi, but CV control can be acheived by the bolt to croc interface on the box. For multiple connections leads with crocodile clip to 1/4'' jack or whatever type would be required

This is the first in what is to be a range of modular boxes . Being based on oscillators, the primary sound making device in just about all synths, it is a logical starting point. CRO-2 will appear later this year and feature further synthesis capabilities and be fully connectable with this synth. .To hear examples of how this device sounds and for more info go to:-

http://www.crowphonics.com/Sound_Clips.html

There is also a product guide on the website with a description of the functions of the various bolts and controls etc.

The unit runs on just a 12 volt power supply which is included."

Expert Sleepers Silent Way LFO swing demo

YouTube via expertsleepers
"A demo of the new 'swing' feature in the Expert Sleepers Silent Way LFO plug-in.
The LFO waveform is shown on screen in the oscilloscope, and what you hear is the waveform driving the pitch on a VCO.
The right channel is generating a constant 1/4 note synced square wave to act as the oscilloscope's timebase - the left channel is what you hear.
As well as being useful for modulating LFO waveforms in general, swing is particularly useful for square waves being used as clock signals, allowing you to add swing to analog-sequenced hardware that normally wouldn't support it (for example, the TB-303)."
