"A realtime-arrangement-demo of my modded Pearl DRX-1 drumsynth. Normally this excellent drumsynth must be painfully programmed by 4 buttons on the front and had 8 storagememories. i rejected this digital circuitry and added 40 pots, one for each of the 8 parameters of the 5 voices. In contrast to the simmons-things the voices are nearly identical: Pitch, Decay, Attack (adds a short enveloped noise, not just a click), Filter (slightly resonant), Bend (just piuuu) and Overtone (adds a second detuned oscillator) and Level. Sequencing comes from mc-909, the triggersignals come from my modded CMU-800 which holds (besides its modded analog drumvoices) a 16channel- midi to trigger interface. The CMU also runs the Pearl Syncussion in the background. Other synths used: D-550, Fantom and V-Synth. Just Pearl and Roland-Gear :) It is not a perfect song/arrangement but i guess you like it more than just listening to the drx alone."

MOOG MUSIC ANNOUNCES PURCHASE OF NEW HEADQUARTERS

MOOG MUSIC ANNOUNCES PURCHASE OF NEW HEADQUARTERS IN ASHEVILLE, N.C.
"For Release May 21, 2010. Asheville, NC – Moog Music, in conjunction with the City of Asheville and the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville Buncombe County, is pleased to announce a $2.5 million investment in a new downtown Asheville company headquarters. On May 18, 2010, Moog Music finalized the purchase of four vacant, 1920 era buildings 160-170 Broadway St.; the Northern Gateway into downtown Asheville.

The Broadway site was chosen by Moog Music for its close proximity to the downtown music venues and river arts district. “This location is ideal for Moog and our employees; we will bring commerce, economic vitality and livability to this once neglected entrance to the city,” said Michael Adams, President of Moog Music. “Our plans include an extensive renovation of the structure that will transform the façade from an eyesore to a landmark that embodies Moog’s spirit of innovation, one that our company and our community can be proud of.”

The location will house the company’s 35 employees engaged in worldwide sales and marketing, research and development, and manufacturing operations. Adams continued, “The ambience of the building was the primary selection criteria. I was looking for a building that had wood floors, old brick, and wide open spaces. Creativity drives Moog and this old building, once transformed, will inspire our entire team to continue this mission.”

“This redevelopment by Moog brings the Broadway corridor one step closer to the vision long advocated by city and community planners,” said City of Asheville Mayor, Terry Bellamy. “The City is excited to welcome an employer like Moog whose international reputation for excellence, innovation and creativity will complement our vibrant downtown community.” Moog Music has been selected by the City to receive $50,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds in support of the project. As part of this expansion and expected company growth, Moog anticipates adding an additional 10 – 15 employees over the next three years.

“The County applauds Moog Music on this exciting expansion and its continued contributions to our economy and workforce. The move will not only strengthen our advanced manufacturing economy but enhance Asheville’s reputation as a premier music and arts destination.” said David Gantt, Chair of the Buncombe County Commission. Moog Music will begin renovations on the Broadway site in the coming weeks with the use of local architect, Keith Hargrove, and local contractor, H&M Constructors. Work should be completed in late 2010.

Bob Moog Foundation Auction: Original Painting of Bob Moog

via this auction
"In April the Bob Moog Foundation issued a call for art inspired by the legacy of Bob Moog. Five artists donated original pieces for us to auction off on eBay as a part of our spring fundraiser. The auctions will end on Thursday May 27 at 10pm eastern time, during our live event at the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC. Attendees at the event will be able to bid on the items via computer stations donated by City Mac, and the eBay format will allow bidders from around the world to participate.

This auction is for a piece by Asheville artist Dustin Spagnola.

The piece is very large and is a striking portrait of Bob Moog. Bob's daughter Michelle said that when she saw the piece for the first time she was speechless, and that it felt like her dad was in the room with her.

It measures about 70 inches tall by 48 inches wide. The painting is on a handmade wood canvas and is signed and dated by the artist on the back. See the photo with the office chair for a sense of the scale. Because of the large size we will need to get a shipping quote from a freight company based on your location. If you are the winning bidder, please wait for an invoice from us before paying for the item. You will be charged actual shipping costs.

Dustin's artist statement for his current series: "This current work is inspired by the contemporary urban landscape. The images reference the texture, depth, and color of structures in decay and the visual language of graffiti. The walls of the world are often seen, but frequently overlooked. They are beautiful, bold, sprawling structures embedded with history. The landscape of urbanity is punctuated by the organic marks left from water and weather, poster art and spray paint. These images reference the imperfect and rough texture of concrete and use these characteristics to create fragments of worn and crumbling walls.

While the imagery is built upon a definite design aesthetic, the spontaneous application of pigment contributes to the overall dynamics of each composition. This process pushes the rhythm of each piece towards a visual cadence. The interplay between the color fields and the spray enamel struggling for dominance creates tension and movement. The finished paintings are artifacts of this intuitive process."
