Koushion for iPad Now Available

video here
"Koushion is a new kind of MIDI controller for your iPad. While it looks deceptively similar to a simple Tone Matrix, this is no toy. Designed to be more versatile than the TENORI-ON*, Koushion is the next big thing in electronic music.

Features:
* 16-step sequencer with adjustable timing. Each step can be as large as a whole note and as small as 1/32 note.
* 8 selectable scenes/banks that can be played individually, simultaneously, or in automatic succession.
* Each scene is assignable to any MIDI channel so you can control up to 8 MIDI instruments at once.
* Improvising or playing along with a band? Dial a key and the notes will change to match the new key!
* Syncs to any MIDI clock source available to your computer.
* Works with all major (and not-so-major) MIDI-capable production software on your Mac or PC.
* Perfect for adding some spice to a live set when paired with Ableton Live."

Handmade Electronic Instruments

Square Wave Machine from Michael Rucci on Vimeo.

"This is a square wave oscillator with a LFO built into a vintage soothing sound machine.

Originally built by Marsona it looks original from the outside, although it has been completely rebuilt inside. The selector is now simply an on/off switch, volume is still volume, tone is now pitch, and surf rate and range are now now the LFO rate and range.

Atari Paddle Light Synth from Michael Rucci on Vimeo.

This is a light controlled square-wave generator with a pulsing effect, hand built into an Atari paddle controller. These were originally built by Gemini for the Atari system. Pitch is controlled by a light sensor, speed is controlled by the knob, and the trigger is power. At high speeds you can get some interesting throaty sounds. For more precise control and wider pitch range experiment with different light sources.
A red LED pulses with the sound. It can easily be connect to amps, effects, recording equipment, etc. At the end of the original cord is a 1/4" plug and running from there is a wall adapter for power.

"A drum beat using just the Mr.SnareDrum and BeatieBop Analog Drum Synths. I programmed some stereo clicks of different volumes in Ableton Live and sent it out to the trigger inputs on the Drum Synths with a Y-Cable from a laptop headphone jack. Easy way to sequence these analog drums since they can be triggered by voltage OR audio.
Coming to ebay soon..."

Midi used for the clock, 89bpm from a Monomachine. Off key drone from Slim and a MF103."

DIY Isomorphic Keyboard project

YouTube Uploaded by analogstatic on Mar 22, 2011

"This is a velocity sensitive MIDI isomorphic keyboard. 192 total keys. The project came out of Louisville Soundbuilders, a fortnightly meeting of circuitbenders, synth engineers and experimental musicians. After seeing a couple of my failed variations of a single-bus isomorphic keyboard, Tim was intrigued enough to design one even better. He designed multiple PCBs that sandwich together with multiple switch types for velocity sensitive keypresses.

More development on the way! We're working on molds/methods for making hexagonal keycaps. And I'm working on an Arduino-based controller as an alternative to the midibox controller Tim has working already.
