Authorized Bob Moog Biography by Albert Glinsky In the Works

via The Bob Moog Foundation

"We are proud to share that Albert Glinsky, author of the award-winning biography, Theremin: Ether Music and Espionage, for which Bob wrote the foreword, is currently penning Bob’s authorized biography. In the forward of the Theremin biography, Bob begins “After years of meticulous research, Albert Glinsky has written this wondrous story of Leon Theremin…” He will be carrying that same ethos forward when exploring Bob’s own life and work.

Glinsky, a highly esteemed author, professor, composer and musician, has already interviewed many of Bob’s friends, associates, and family members, and his research has taken him to far reaching locations in pursuit of the ultimate Moog legacy. More details about this incredible endeavor will follow soon.
Please visit Albert’s webpage to learn more about him and his work."

Bob Moog Google Doodle Demonstration: How to use it!

Here is a demonstration of the sound and functionality of the new Bob Moog Google Doodle released on Bob Moog's birthday to celebrate his legacy!
I only had a short time to throw this together, for obvious reasons... so please forgive my haste!
Thank you to Bob Moog for changing my life, as well as bringing an incredible form of musical expression into the world."

Update: the Moog Doodle Quick Start Guide and the inside story on Mashable.

"When Google’s Chief Doodler Ryan Germick and Google Engineer Joey Hurst decided they wanted to build the Google Moog Synthesizer Doodle, it was to 'Pay tribute to someone who was like a patron saint of the nerdy arts,' said Germick.

Germick told Mashable that he was a huge Robert Moog fan. Moog, who died in 2005 and would have been 78 today, developed what is widely recognized as the first commercial synthesizer. Previous versions were the size of closets. Germick called him 'a passionate toolmaker.'

Hurst and Germick collaborated on last year’s playable Les Paul guitar Google Doodle, but it was Germick who brought this project to Hurst — who actually celebrated his birthday one day before Moog’s — as a kind of a challenge. 'Joey is an amazing engineer and I love to come up with a way to stump him,' explained Germick.

The concept was to recreate the Mini Moog Analog Synthesizer in a Web browser. Germick thought there was no way it could be done. Hurst, who knew someone who owned an original Moog, was instantly excited by the project..."

RCA Theremin & Talking Machine

YouTube Published on May 22, 2012 by copperleaves

"The theremin in this video is the instrument that once belonged to Julius Goldberg, the partner and personal assistant of Russian inventor Leon Theremin. This is a 1929 RCA theremin that was customized by Goldberg in the early 1930's and provided with 'lightning bolt' volume and pitch antennas. In this video, I am using an ELECTRO-HARMONIX 'Talking Machine' on a fixed, open 'AH' sound, which lends to the tone a remarkable likeness to a human tenor.

The theremin has often been compared to an 'electric soprano' but used with the Talking Machine, it can also be an ELECTRIC TENOR or an ELECTRIC BARITONE!

The composition is the famous tenor aria, NESSUN DORMA, from the opera TURANDOT by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini."

via the listing: "Vintage Thomas Band Master Model 55 Serial 1086523 rhythm machine. It measures about 18½" x 12" x 8¼". We tested it briefly and it works. We dont remember if we pushed every single button , but we pushed at least 20 of them and they all work. The foot pedal works. The manual beat buttons work. The sound quality does seem thick and punchy(in our opinion) but not really that great. It sounds kind of 70's or 80's. The cabinet has some finish wear, scratches,etc..."

Jomox M Base 01 Analog Bass Drum Module

"The Jomox M Base 01 is an analog bass drum module with midi and memory. There are very many parameters for you to adjust, allowing you to acheive a wide spectrum of analog drum sounds with a focus on bass drums. The versatility of the unit allows from soft to very hard attacks, short envelopes or super long decays. There is also a midi syncable LFO. Many classic bass/kick drums like the 808 and 909 styles can be created and stored in memory.

The M Base is equipped with midi control of pitch allowing you to play it from a keyboard over a 3 octave range as a simple analog synthesizer! (try it through a fuzz pedal). There is also a trigger in jack for drum pads or external audio. The size and versatility of the unit will easily allow you integrate the unit into you studio or live setup. (use it as an expander for your digital drum machine or sampler and feel the results!) The M Base 01 is the precursor to the M Base 11 which adds a couple of features, but the two units are almost the same."
