"For sale is a 1960' R. A. (Robert) Moog "The Vanguard" all tube theremin!

MOOG and theremin collectors, here is incredibly rare model for your collection! I've never seen one for sale!

This unit exudes a super cool retro vibe and leaves novices guessing what it is! Is it a radio? A transmitter? A stereo? No, it's way cooler than that! It's a R.A. Moog tube theremin with integrated amp and speaker for a complete plug and play electronic instrument! In 1960, theremins were Bob Moog's only product and he probably had his hands on every one that left his small factory. Shipping totals for this model where very low! The serial number is 6036 making it only the 36th vanguard made in 1960. Take a close look at the pictures!

This theremin is in excellent condition and functions well making those eerie electronic violin sounds used in classic sci-fi films and TV of the past. 1960 was the first year for the Vanguard and this one is in great shape. It's all is original except the antennas which where missing when it came to me, so I had some custom made from stainless steel. Also the plastic coil clamps had become brittle and cracked so I replaced them with modern versions.

Features:
Robert Moog design
All vacuum tube circuitry with integrated amplifier and speaker
A deco wedge shaped cabinet made of solid mahogany
A cool control plate with text that lights up when turned on and bake-lite knobs

Original R. A. Moog Co. product description:

"The Vanguard"
The Vanguard is a completely self-contained electronic musical instrument. The tone is generated by purely electronic means, without the use of motors, strings, or other mechanically moving parts. A specially designed vacuum tube oscillator circuit, whose operation is sensitive to movements of the player's hand, generates an electric wave. When this wave leaves the oscillator, it passes through another circuit which adds the correct degree of overtones to give a pleasing and musical quality to the tone...

Still another circuit enables the loudness of the tone to be controlled by the player's hand. After leaving this circuit, the tone is amplified, and converted into sound waves by a loudspeaker.
All components of the Vanguard, including the loudspeaker, are housed in a handsome, hand-rubbed solid mahogany cabinet. The tuning adjustments are conveniently located in front of the player as he faces the instrument.

The pitch range covers three and one-half octaves, extending from an octave below Middle C to two and one-half octaves above Middle C...
1960 Price: $395.00

Also, here's some links to Jon Spencer using his Vanguard live! (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion)
It's not ambient or classic theremin music but shows a Vanguard in use."

"Jon Spencer Blues Explosion performing "Afro" on "The Word" on UK TV Channel 4, in 1994. This has long been one of my cherished VHS tapes! I think this was during their second UK tour, maybe early 1994. Shame they don't really get the props now, but like Mark Lamarr says on this clip at this time they really were the best live act around"

"Dave Frederick's plays the amazing ARP Soloist - It's a one hand band"

"Very Rare! Arp Pro Soloist 45 rpm demo record and record request form. Form is in excellent condition, record and sleeve are in very good condition. People were supposed to take the form to their nearest dealer to get a free copy of the Arp demo record. The record is two sided and showcases the various sounds that the Pro Soloist keyboard was capable of. 1970's early synthesizer coolness. Retro to the teeth and very hard to find..."
