Easel - Sho Experiment

"Here is a little live experiment using the Japanese Sho processed through a Buchla Music Easel – the Easel is pumping out the bass pulse and the Sho is being gated by the Easel’s Lo Pass Gate."

My Own Opus

"up close

here's a quick description of the patch:

pitches from metropolis, running through the disting to pitch it up and down by octaves and on to the shapeshifter. C major scale transposed by voltages from the first row of pressure points (second row of pressure points is patched but doing nothing). pressure points is stepped through by the sync output on metropolis, which triggers after 32 pulses have been fired (metropolis is running in fixed forward mode.

sound source is osc 1 and 2 of shapeshifter, running into the korgasmatron II which is being modulated by channels 1 (which is also doing nothing) and 4 of maths as well as a slow triangle lfo from the dixie II. from there audio goes into the uVca, which is controlled by peaks in expert envelope mode.

all audio then runs through a summing mixer setup, on to the outs and through a strymon el capistan before being recorded into the computer by way of the octatrack.

octatrack clocks the metropolis via midi and passes through audio, nothing else.

originally this patch had varied gate lengths modulated per step of the pressure points, but i decided i liked it better this way, which is why some parts of the patch aren't doing anything.

"Here's a great sounding ARP Avatar that can be used as synthesizer module over CV/Gate, the original HEX guitar pickup is no where to be found. Cosmetically the ARP shows plenty of wear in the best kind of way, perfect vintage vibe. All of the slider caps have gone missing, but replacements can be found right here on eBay.

This Avatar was just serviced on 02/16/15 by Chicago's best, Borish Electronics.

Service notes:
-Cleaned all sliders and replaced 1 slider.
-Replaced 2 CMOS IC's related to routing and switching.
-Removed some bad tantalum capacitors.
-Calibrated oscillators and power supply.
-All functions test OK."

"This is a very clean and lovely sounding Model D, which has been thoroughly tested. This is a later serial number, 10742, thus this synth has the more stable second revision of the oscillator board. The unit was opened to find a manufacturing date, but none was evident. The serial number and notched white pitch and mod wheels would indicate somewhere between 1978 and 1980.

Cosmetically, there is a light to moderate amount of wear to the finish on the upper left and right corners and top edge of the control panel. There is a little bit of wear to the wood on the end cheeks closest to the keyboard, but for its age this Mini is rather clean. The front panel is flawless, as are all knobs and switches. Operationally this synth is phenomenal, the key bed is quite level and plays wonderfully, and all knobs and switches function perfectly noise free. We did not have cause to have this instrument serviced, as it fired up and played great right out of the case, and to the ear sounds to be in calibration. Thanks to the second rev oscillator board, it stays well enough in tune for reliable live use night after night or for countless hours of studio wizardry.

To the best of our knowledge, this Model D spent most of its life in the rental department of Andy's Music (now SIR) as evidenced by the stenciled phone number on the bottom of the unit. As a backine unit, this synth was regularly serviced, and comes with a heavy duty flight case, likely from the 1990's. Since being sold by Andy's in 2012, it has had two owners, notably Decade Recording Studios here in Chicago. A cinch jones to 3.5mm adapter is included with the unit, as well as an original Model D manual. The manual itself is actually for the earlier revision of the Model D, as it includes the calibration procedure for the earlier oscillator board.

This Model D is ready to be back in regular use, and would be a great instrument for a player, a studio, or a collector. Please contact us for further questions and concerns."
