"MOOG LITTLE PHATTY 'Toxic' GREEN Edition
ROLAND JUNO-106 "The HOLY SYNTH"
THRU KORG KRONOS Insert Effects Delay & Reverb
***Watch in HD***

First we have the Moog Little Phatty TOXIC thru
the Korg Kronos insert effects....
I use the JUNO-106 as a midi controller in this part.
Then we layer the two analog synths via MIDI thru
the Korg Kronos insert effects!!! Sa-WEEEEET!
I also am controlling the Moog with the JUNO-106.
Keeping the pad sound 'Moogy' with the JUNO-106,
the layer is totally Wakeman... I LOVE it!!
Not trying to show off any playing skills,
just having fun on a rainy day!
Always a good thing to do on a rainy day!!!

Thanks for watching!!

RIP Charanjit Singh

Mumbai-based Charanjit Singh has passed away at the age of 74. For those not familiar with him, he was an electronic music pioneer that many claim to have inadvertently created the world's first acid house record, notably with the Roland TB-303. You can listen to it above.  Note his was recorded in 1982. You can see him pictured below with a Roland Jupiter-8 and TR-808.   You can find a previous post on the release here.

via The Guardian:

"Electronic music pioneer Charanjit Singh, 74, has died. The cult figure, who was noted by some as the creator of the first ever acid house record, died at his home in Mumbai on 3 July.

Charanjit Singh on how he invented acid house ... by mistake

Although he had forged a career as a session musician playing on numerous Bollywood film soundtracks throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the producer’s proto-acid music had a revival in 2010, when his 1982 album, Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat, was reissued by record label Bombay Connection. Although Singh was reluctant to claim his part in the evolution of the genre, the album was one of the earliest records to use the Roland TR-808 drum machine and the Roland TB 303 bass synth – a machine that built much of the acid house sound.

'There was lots of disco music in films back in 1982,' Singh said, in a 2011 interview with the Guardian. 'So I thought, why not do something different using disco music only. I got an idea to play all the Indian ragas and give the beat a disco beat – and turn off the tabla. And I did it. And it turned out good.'"

Yamaha Reface Synths Leaked

Update: Details are here.

Four mini synths:

CP electric piano.
YC combo organ
CS synth
DX synth

These line up with the teaser pic here.

Curious if the CS will be a digital emulation or analog. If it's polyphonic, based on the size, it would likely have to be digital, not that there's anything wrong with that.  Roland's Aira line was originally ill received by many when it was revealed that they would be digital.  They are now pretty much well revered by all. I own an AN1x, Yamaha FS1R, DX-200 and CS60. All are fantastic sounding synths.

We'll have full details tomorrow.

FM Synthesis in Reaktor using AudioCubes Topology by Salamanderanagram

Published on Jul 6, 2015 Percussa AudioCubes

"How to build an FM operator synth in Reaktor using Percussa AudioCubes and Topology mode https://www.percussa.com/2015/07/05/F..."

"In the first video Salamanderanagram shows off a very simple FM operator synth which he built in Reaktor, and demos it using the AudioCubes. To control the FM synth he is using MIDIBridge 3.0 for AudioCubes, and uses the new topology mode. Topology mode will send MIDI note triggers when cubes detect each other and will send MIDI CC messages for the distance between the cubes. This makes it easy to connect things when cubes detect each other and to change sound parameters when the distance is changed between cubes.

In the case of the FM synth in this video, when cubes detect each other, FM operators (sine oscillators) are connected so they can modulate each other. By moving the cubes closer or further away, parameters of the oscillators can be changed. In his setup depth modulation, width modulation and ring modulation parameters are changed when the distance between the cubes changes. Oscillators can also modulate each other simultaneously when 2 cubes are placed together which creates very interesting results! Finally, when you turn a cube, you can change the parameters that are being modulated, from ring modulation to feedback for example."

Demo: REON Driftbox-R Limited by Roland (Green)

Published on Jul 5, 2015 Patrick OBrien

"Here's a playing demo of the REON Driftbox R Limited Analog Monosynth, going through each knob and switch, followed by a modular beat at the end. This is Roland's new analog synthesizer, officially released in July 2015 without fanfare. This synth is an updated version of the original REON DriftBox, except it has Aira green coloring.

I own a modular synthesizer so the big selling point for me was having the CV and gate inputs to work seamlessly with my other gear. Some people wish this had MIDI. There are no MIDI ports.

Manufacturer Description:
- VCO 1 has controls for frequency, level and modulation depth.

- HIGH/LOW switches between octaves. Frequency range: 0.2Hz-10kHz

- The WAVE switch selects in a rotating fashion one of the wave forms: sawtooth // triangle // 50% pulse // 75% pulse // 25% pulse // white noise // pink noise

- EG/FM selects either the envelope generator or the second VCO as modulation source.

- VCO 2 is pretty much the same as VCO1 but has only two selectable waveforms (sawtooth and 50% square) and different modulation options (sync or FM by VCO1).

- The CV LINK switch routes the external CV for VCO1 to input of VCO2 as well.

- The filter is a resonant, 24db/octave steep low pass filter. The resonance goes into oscillation. The modulation source for the cutoff can be either the envelope or an external CV; the modulation intensity is adjustable. Two more switches determine if and which VCO is used for filter cutoff modulation.

- The envelope is working either as an AD or an ASR, the middle control D/S determines either the decay time or the sustain level. When envelopes overlap, an interesting percussion effect occurs which prevails in the mix.

- The INV/NOR switch can invert the envelope. The modulation depth to the VCA is set with the "EG depth" potentiometer.

- HOLD opens the VCA and the VOL control sets the output level. The output switch is used for muting the synth.

- The white TRIG button allows you to fire the envelope manually and it generates a gate signal at the gate output socket.

Details:
- 5V DC power inlet
- CV inputs: VCOs 1+2 (1V/oct, 0-10V) and VCF cutoff (0-10V)
- Gate input, gate output (0-5V pulses)
- Audio output"
