The Waldorf Wave II

You are looking at renders of what was to be the Wadorf Wave II, designed by Axel Hartmann, the man behind the upcoming 20 Electronics synth, and hardware designer for numerous manufacturers including Access, Moog, and of course Waldorf. There was also the Waldorf Stromberg that never made it into production.

"Got to pull these out again . . . from somewhere in our archives. This baby was supposed to be the "Wave II", back in the days, somewhere around the year 2000. We have been working on some wicket ideas then; - wanted to use huge trackballs, to create animated surround sound coming directly out of that machine. Also, for the lefthand controls, we were trying to implement some ideas that I had years before, when working on the "Gambit" study. I was asking myself; - why should a keyboard player, who is capable of doing the wildest things with his left hand, be limited to using just the hand or the thumb to control things . . . so we came up with the 4 dynamic switches array; - one switch for each finger, in combination with a pitch bender, that we stole from Hans / Nord (sorry for that, but it is such a GREAT thingie . . .). The switches have been located ergonomically perfect, just below the left edge of the wheel block . . . Also, look at that display . . . oh man . . ."

"A synth with balls."

"The entire front panel is a glass surface; - printed from the back. Of course, the pots are all encoders with lightrings. OK; - it is a bad rendering; - but not too bad for the time, when it was created ;-)"

"Achja; - klar - polyphonic pressure . . ."

New Pittsburgh Modular Impulse Filter Demo Video

Published on Dec 9, 2016 Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers

"Organic and percussive, the Dynamic Impulse Filter utilizes an entirely new, all analog design to replicate the impact transients and vibrance of a percussion hit. The result is a versatile lowpass filter that sounds natural and energetic. The Dynamic Impulse Filter works in one of three modes, lopass filter with resonance, high quality VCA, and a combined mode that manages both harmonics and gain at the same time. The core of the filter uses a Sallen-Key topology to produce a smooth two pole filter that will self-oscillate at high resonance settings."

"Lifeforms Dynamic Impulse Filter

A New Species of Low Pass Gate

Organic and percussive, the Dynamic Impulse Filter utilizes an entirely new, all analog design to replicate the impact transients and vibrance of a percussion hit. The result is a versatile filter module that sounds natural and energetic.

We Love Vactrols Too...

The fruit of over two years of research and development, the Dynamic Impulse Filter evolves the lowpass gate into the present by retaining the sonic characteristics we love about vactrols while solving all the problems that come with it. The unique design of the Dynamic Impulse Filter replaces the vactrol with a modern analog circuit created to replicate and expand on the signature sound of the vactrol. The response time of the Dynamic Impulse Filter is not static like a vactrol; instead it is tunable allowing the response of the module to adapt to any musical context.

The suggested retail price for the Lifeforms Dynamic Impulse Filter is $229 and it begins shipping to authorized resellers December 16. More information is available at www.pittsburghmodular.com/lifeforms-dynamic-impulse-filter"

MICHAL HO - So You're A Drum Machine Too?

Published on Oct 2, 2016 Michal Ho

"Jamming minimal glitch dub beats on a single Moog Mother 32.

M32 - michal ho's initial beat patch:

NOISE to LIN FM gives you a slightly different, sharper flavour than mixing osc wave and noise, and it leaves your external input unused.

KB to MULT enables you to use different notes for different sounds.

MULT 1 to VCF ensures low notes or kicks play without noise, high notes play with noise, as hihats. Mid notes blend osc and noise and yield toms and snares.

MULT 2 to VCF RES ensures high notes or high hats have more treble and sound thinner. Low notes have less resonance and therefore more bass.

Once patched, the trick is to find the right sequencer notes to generate BD, SN and HH and tweak further settings to your liking (try note length / EG decay, etc.)"

"Today only lucky 7 sale. Price shoots up tomorrow or I may remove the listing. I'm not sure yet.

SEM-1 CLASSIC!!!
Fully functioning but should be shopped out because I can feel one of the pots is starting to act weird and the double function pots probably need a cleaning. But right now it is working and sounds amazing. It is professionally modified having all the access points brought out for complete isolation possibilities of the sounds. Everyone else has a reissue SEM pro but you will have an original SEM-1. Very very hard to find one of these, make an offer, get it while you can."

"In great condition considering it's age. Works flawlessly and sounds awesome. Has all of the original knobs. Has some slight blemishes in the orange paint if you look very closely (paint finish is known to be fragile on older Waldorf synths). This is the original 10 voice version. Comes with newer power supply."
