Part 1: Quadraphonic Master Class with Suzanne Ciani

Published on Aug 9, 2018 loopop

"Suzanne Ciani is an electronic music pioneer, composer, sound designer responsible for iconic sounds in commercials and video games, AND not only a pioneer but someone who is still leading the pack today with amazing modular performances.

But what you won't get to really know about Suzanne's performance until you attend one of her concerts is that all her shows are strictly quadraphonic, and the experience is amazing.

That experience can be recreated in the studio, so I set out to create series of videos about creating quadraphonic music and performance.

Here's Part 1 of that series - a master class with Suzanne Ciani. Suzanne's gear of choice for quadraphonic is a Buchla system, which is rare and expensive. In Part 2 I'll show how you can get similar results with any DAW, a few things that are unique to Ableton Live, and, if you're into Eurorack, a few ways to perform quadraphonically with standard and specialized modules."

This one was listed back in 2014.

"Excellent condition, one of the best older vintage monos ever. A true monster. Serial # 1027.

4 oscillators, 3 with continuously variable wave shapes, and variable bandwidth filter to die for, and imo the BEST ring mod ever, controlled by the 4th osc - beautiful, harmonicly rich, metalic distored tones.

Capable of very unique raw and large sounds and very flexible to get wild harsh or suble electric sounds with the modular side of things. Very sad to see this go but I am committed to the few things I have and use more frequently.

Tuned up before I bought it three years ago by a tech in SF who has lots of experience with EMLs, no issues since buying. These are considerably more stable in the long run than say, an arp 2600, due to the high spec (military grade I believe) components used.

Only things of note are slightly yellowed keys (dont know from what, these don't clean, maybe can be replaced) and a few small dings in the original case - been this way before I got it. Handle and all latches intact, working."
