Nozori by Nozoïd : A New Concept in the Eurorack World

"Encouraged by public success of the OCS-2 and MMO-3, Nozoïd dust off eurorack systems with it's new concept : nozori.

This platform allow to easily switch from one module to another, with the same hardware. Changing modules is as simple as changing jumpers position!

A kickstarter campaign has just been started to finance the production of this hardware. A good opportunity to be the first to get one, at a lower price.

The nozori concept consist of using the same hardware for multiple modules. This hardware is based on a powerful digital core to allow huge versatility. Potentiometers, inputs or outputs can adapt to many module designs: from standard modules like VCO, VCF, LFO to outstanding functionality never seen before. This solve two problems of the eurorack world: the price and the size of a system.

You can unleash your experimentation process without spending much on new modules : one hardware allows more experimentations since you can try many different modules. You may have a module that you did not used anymore. With a nozori, this will never happen : when your rack evolves, you only need to change few jumpers to find the perfect module for the situation.

2 hardwares are available : the Nozori 68 with 6 potentiometers, 4 CV in, 2 audio IN and 2 audio OUT, and the Nozori 84 with 8 potentiometers, 2 audio IN and 2 audio OUT.
This 2 platforms allow an extensive range of modules. The available list is impressive : shape morphing VCO, morphing VCF, FM or other sound generators, sequencers, shape morphing LFO, chaotic CV generators, sound effects. A total of 40 modules, have already been developed. Since the production of a Nozori module did not involve any hardware cost, Nozoïd had developed very specific module that other manufacturers do not risk producing.

A simple 5 modules rack offer more than 3 millions module combinations. Nozori unleash creativity at a small cost!

Nozori module can be used with there reversible white / black panels. Their elegant design will perfectly fit in your rack. An extension pack is also available. It include optional front plates that can be added to show the control parameters of a specific module. This pack also expose the jumpers on the front panel to swap module within seconds.

The nozori website contains more information, including video demonstration of all modules.

Here are the full specifications :
12U eurorack module
POTENTIOMETERS : 12-bits at about 18KHz sampling rate
AUDIO IN : 24-bits at 96KHz, DC Compatible, from +/- 5V (clip between +/- 6 to 7V)
AUDIO OUT : 24-bits at 96KHz, DC Compatible, delivers +/- 5V (can go up to +/- 7V)
AUDIO IN/OUT latency : 0.17 ms
CV IN : 12-bits at about 18KHz sampling rate, from +/- 5V (clip at +/- 5.3V)
Power consumption : +12V : 150mA; -12V : 10mA
32 bits ARM Cortex M3 @ 84MHz

Nozoïd is known for the OCS-2 and the MMO-3 : 2 semi modular synthesizer that pack tones of control in a very small form factor. Both synths have very good feedback from its user community, including Jean-Michel Jarre, Richard Devine, and Bogdan Raczynski.

On the kickstarter campaign, the early bird can be bought for 219€. After the kitckstarter campaign, a Nozori platform will cost 249€ in Europe (including taxes), about 320$ excluding taxes outside Europe."

G8TOR : A Sequencer with Serious Bite

"2GETHERAUDIO RELEASES G8TOR, A SEQUENCER SYNTH WITH LIVE ACTION PAD EFFECTS - FOR MUSIC TRACKS NEEDING SOME SERIOUS ANIMATED BITE.

Boston, MA USA (January 8, 2019) - 2getheraudio has released a unique software synthesizer built around three step sequencers add DJ-style pad triggered effects for manipulating the sequences while they're playing. The virtual instrument is called G8TOR and is available for purchase today under 2getheraudio's Pay-What-You-Want business model.

"I'm really excited to bring another Adam Petruszko (http://www.knobz.net) designed virtual instrument to market", stated Jennifer Hruska, CEO of 2getheraudio. "His audio expertise and studio creativity come together to create such unique and utterly musical virtual instruments. G8TOR is no exception. If you like fat VA synths, step sequencers, arpeggiators and playable pad effects, G8TOR is a must have in your plugin arsenal."

Like the name suggests, G8TOR starts its sound production with a fat and edgy sounding synthesizer. A supersaw oscillator, noise source and 2 virtual analog oscillators get the ball rolling followed by a resonant filter with envelope, modwheel and sequencer control. Further refinement includes mono mode with glide and built-in distortion, chorus, stereo delay and convolution reverb effects. The result is a synth capable of super fat basses, filtery pads, blistering leads and just about anything in between.

Then comes the sequencer magic. G8TOR includes three programmable sequencers – an 8-step note sequencer, an 8-step filter sequencer and an powerful arpeggiator with per-step stutter, duration, velocity and filter control in addition to the standard arpeggiator controls. Suddenly, a single note from the G8TOR synth turns into an action sequence, driving bass line, or animated percussion track.

To add even more variety (and avoid the static effect many step sequencers can impart), G8TOR includes eight tempo-sync'd pad effects. Simply start the sequence and trigger the pads for endless sonic variation. The pad effects include bit crusher, low/hi pass filter, flanger/phaser, fractal delay, panner, wah wah, stutter, and cut echo. The pads are MIDI controllable with per-pad trigger options that include one-shot, toggle, hold, mono aftertouch and poly aftertouch. A MIDI learn function helps you quickly assign each pad to an external MIDI controller.

G8TOR supports 64-bit VST, AU, AAX capable DAWs and includes a Standalone app for use without a DAW. It is Mac and Windows compatible. G8TOR is released under 2getheraudio's Pay-What-You-Want business model so nearly all musicians, regardless of their ability to pay, have access to this software. A free trial is available at https://www.2getheraudio.com/instruments/g8tor."

Cwejman S1 MK2 Back in Production

The Cwejman S1 MK2 is back in production priced at 3500€ or roughly $4000. Curious if it will be the battleship green or off-white model below.

via Cwejman

"The S1 is a semi-modular, analogue monophonic synthesizer. It is easy to get started with since it is prepatched for optimal use of its sound producing possibilities and eliminates the need for external connections between modules during use. Each module can be disconnected and used separately, e.g. to control or be controlled by other instruments. This flexibility enables and simplifies experimentation with creation and reproduction of sound

Features
3 oscillators with seven waveforms
ring modulator
FM
sync
portamento
noise generator with three noise shapes
low pass filter with selectable 4 / 6 poles and quasi band pass mode
multi mode filter with selectable 2 to 6 poles and three modes
wide range envelope generators
master amplifier with build-in overdrive stage
LFO with seven basic waveforms and wide rate range
extensive modulation of, virtually, all synthesis parameters
build-in MIDI to CV/gate converter with 16-bit resolution
several parameters can be voltage controlled by external signals and, simultaneously, control external devices by the build-in MIDI converters voltage outputs (see Rear Panel)
The S1 is a stand alone instrument and the possibility with patching and integrating it into an external modular (or semi-modular) synthesizer makes it extremely flexible."

ELEKTRONIKA EM25 - Vintage Analog String synthesizer USSR Soviet Russian

Published on Jan 14, 2019 GLvintageSHOP

"EM-25 is an interesting Soviet string-synth that looks and feels like a curious cross between Moog Opus 3, Yamaha SK15 and ARP Solina. Like other Soviet synths, has got a distinct sound of its own and can easily compete with synths that have grown to become classics.

Organ has great vibe - I like its etheral and gentle vibe in upper register. It has one percussive drawbar (again a plus for total tonal variety).
EM-25's organ is quite interesting, potent and woody with full registers, almost acoustic sounding. With a touch of LXP-1 reverb, a single drawbar turns into real Cathedral organ!

Synth section (called brass on EM-25) is VCO fixed preset on both, with full filter section - but only one filter for all voices.

All said, EM-25 is unique and rare and a real stringer."

"If you are looking for the ultimate in Yamaha FM synthesis this is one of the finest examples you will find. The TX802 is a rack-module version of the DX7mkII with full 8-part multi-timbral operation for sequencing and/or key mapping. It has 16-voices of polyphony and six digital FM Operators. There are 128 preset and 64 user patches for your sounds, as well as an external memory cartridge slot.

This particular instrument was used on sessions in the 1990s for artist such as Phil Collins and Whitney Houston. Not only is the unit in excellent cosmetic and operating condition, but it comes with a full internal and card bank of the very BEST DX7 sounds available. These were hand selected using a midi editor librarian, loaded into the internal memory and also the extra RAM cartridge (included).

The original LED display is working perfectly, and a new internal battery has been installed."

"If you are looking at this, then you know what it is. Much much richer and more expressive than the cut down VL70-m

NEW bright LCD display just put in. Easily more readable than the original part.

New floppy disk drive also replaced and tested.

Full Factory Test Menu Performed (see picture) and passed. There's one slight quirk with this board. On boot up it will say the internal battery is low. I have replaced the battery and the message still comes up (only once each time it is powered up). The message can be dismissed, so obviously it doesn't affect usage.

Comes with a disk, with 3 factory sound banks as shown in one of the pictures.
1. FULLCTRL: Full Control using breath controller, plus 2 mod wheels
2. NOBREATH: No breath controller
3. STANDARD"
