TEST SERIES Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus Sound Design Experiments

Published on Jan 18, 2019 Outsider Sound Design

"Sound design experiments using the Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus built in oscillators and dual 8 bit delays as the only sound source.

The purpose of “TEST SERIES” is to focus on the sound design possibilities of various gear combinations. This series is not musical nor does it serve as an instructional video. It is all about sound potential.

Mutable Instruments Rack (VCV Rack) - Patch from scratch

Published on Jan 18, 2019 VCV Rack Ideas

"Notes in CC. Get patch file and support me - https://www.patreon.com/vcvrackideas
At this time I use only Mutable Instruments modules (Audible instruments in VCV Rack) to make this patch from scratch! Only one instance of module per patch!
I got some meditative ambient result in the end. Mutables have some mystic character especially when they make a gathering...hope you will like it! And please don't forget turn on Youtube subtitles to see the patch notes.

The Serge Random Source Variable Slope VCF Part 1 - Building | Tutorial

Published on Jan 18, 2019 Under the Big Tree

Audio demo below.

"In this first of a two-part series on the Serge Random Source Variable Slope Voltage Controlled Filter, we build the module from the ground up. If you are interested in building this module as a DIY kit rather than purchasing it pre-built, then this is the video for you. We go through the entire build process, discussing soldering techniques, showing general tips and tricks, as well as aspects of this specific module. We get into testing the module, using oscilloscopes, function generators, and bench power supplies, and even what to do when something goes wrong.

If you want to hear the module in action and have a tutorial on how it works, then watch part two:

Under the Big Tree is Nick Peck's YouTube channel, focused on music and sound design equipment and techniques, composition, production and performance of music, modular synthesizers and electronic music in general, and tabletop board games.

The Serge Random Source Variable Slope VCF Part 2 - Listening | Tutorial

Published on Jan 18, 2019 Under the Big Tree

"In this second of a two-part series on the Serge Random Source Variable Slope Voltage Controlled Filter, we listen to the fruits of our labors. We put a sawtooth wave and some white noise into the audio inputs, add some control voltages, and magic ensues! We go through every knob on the unit in detail, listening to the lowpass, bandpass, and highpass filter outputs.

By the time we are done, you may very well put this fantastic-sounding Eurorack module on your short list. Don't say I didn't warn you."

Lifeforms Primary Oscillator-Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers sound demo

Published on Jan 18, 2019 Dziam Bass

"Hi Folks.
I have a new movie from Primary Oscillator from Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers.
This time it's the quieter side of this oscillator with the sequencer used to pick up and lower the melodies.
The amazing structure allows you to get very harmonic sounds, also timbre are important for sound, it allows you to discover a new music region using Fragments, Timbre, Shape or a special function called Blade. Incredible effects especially on low key tones. With this VCO, they become very organic and rounded by using these functions. Check it out yourself, for me it's a great, very powerful VCO for new sounds."

KORG Z1 Keyboard Synthesizer

"Korg Z1 in excellent condition. Everything is fully functional EXCEPT FOR ITS *MOSTLY FUNCTIONAL* X-Y pad used to manually modulate the sound during performance (the pad to the left of the keyboard.) This X-Y pad has lost much of its sensitivity in the upper left quadrant. However, its other 3 quadrants work very well, so it is still highly usable, and the modulation wheel and the pitch bend wheel work perfectly."

MFOS WP-20 Experimental Analog Synthesizer & 8 Step CV/Gate Sequencer

See this post for a demo of one in a different case.

"WP-20 experimental analog synthesizer which also comes with a 8 step CV/Gate sequencer, along with N.American power supplies and two 1/8" cables for connecting the CV and Gate input/outputs together. Please check out the pictures of this unit as it has a very unique hand made look. The cases are aluminum with hand stamped labeling.

This is one wild unit, capable of much more than its humble specs indicate. It really shines in wild FM sounds, but can also play nice warm analog tones as well. But please be aware, if you are looking for a traditional synthesizer - keep looking! There is no MIDI and its VCO does not scale to V/Oct. Although it is certainly will play nice melodies using the 8 step sequencer you should not buy this thinking you are getting a Novation Bass Station, this is an 'experimental' synthesizer instead.

- VCO with square and triangle
- A VCF with resonance switchable
- VCA
- Loopable A/R generator with a manual trigger button (can get into audio range in loop mode)
- LFO with saw/triangle and square waves (which can also get into audio range).

There are 1/8" inputs for CV (pitch) and Gate (to trigger A/R).

The 8 Step sequencer has, you guessed it - 8 steps. But you can switch between 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8 steps via the "steps" knob. 1/8" outputs for CV and Gate as well as a 1/8" input for external clocks (but note - some of the clocks from my modular would trigger the WP-20, and others would not).

If you would like to hear some of what this machine is capable of, I recorded a 10 minute track using the WP-20 as the sole sound source along with the 8 track sequencer (I also ran the WP-20 through some effects pedals, including a Cimmerian Caves and a home made spring reverb - plus some VST effects). Listen Here:

https://soundcloud.com/artificial-noise/wp-20-sessions

It is an odd unit, certainly not perfect - but if you use its for its strengths (and not focus on its limitations) you can create some very interesting sounds. Lo-fi, warbly and weird is how I would describe it."

"Roland Juno-6 for sale in very near mint cosmetic condition, cased and in perfect working order. This synth appears to be brand new and looks to be unused. We have not serviced it yet as this may add handling marks (the screws haven't been undone from new)."

"1982 Realistic Concertmate MG-1 analog synthesizer. This synth was manufactured by Moog Music and sold at Radio Shack in the early 80s and is one of the coolest little synths I’ve had on my bench. Not only does it have that classic Moog dual-oscillator monosynth sound, but there is also a nifty polyphonic function consisting of a divide down circuit letting the user play the synth polyphonically.

This synth has had a full service - every slider has been cleaned or replaced if needed, one of the MM5823N divider chips was replaced, a 2n3906 transistor was replaced in the first oscillator. Also, the synth received a full recap using high quality Nichicon electrolytic capacitors. I performed a couple standard mods and changed the RCA out to a normal 1/4” jack along with increasing the overall output volume. The nasty ass foam protecting the sliders has been cleaned off and replaced, along with new knobs and slider caps. All keys were removed and polished. This synth looks lovely and will sound beautiful for years to come. Cosmetically speaking, it looks pretty good overall and has a few cracks in the overlay, also a few flecks of what seems to be white paint. Other than that, it’s quite pretty for a synth this age. $650."
