ACL - Sinfonion (all ACL patch)

Published on Jul 30, 2019 SchneidersLaden

"ACL's Sinfonion in one of the simplest applications imaginable - here three oscillators are played in different chords and the audio signal is then processed with the Dual State Variable VCF. ACL's QLFO controls the cutoff and resonance of the dual filter. No effects, only different chords selected by hand."

CG Products - Noise VCA

Published on Jul 30, 2019 SchneidersLaden

"The CG Products - Noise VCA. This little module has a lot to offer, you get a nice multimode filter, VCA and noise source - just add an envelope and a VCO and you have a full synth voice. Here we used the CG Products XR22 VCO and an envelope from Maths. At the end of the audio chain there is a little bit of Erbe-Verb. The modules by Christian Günther are hand assembled here in Berlin."

Niio - Iotine Core 4

Published on Jul 30, 2019 SchneidersLaden

"The Iotine Core 4 is a fully analog, voltage-controllable audio processor with three differently equipped and combinable channels.

Here we show the unit in combination with an Acidlab Drumatix and the Haken ContinuuMini.

Two signal paths are equipped with a smooth sounding multi-mode filter, an extremely flexible saturator and a low-noise VCA. The difference: Each channel offers a unique combination of seven (!!!) saturation and distortion circuits. The third signal path features a multimode filter and a frequency divider / multiplier with distortion capabilities. Furthermore, there is a HAR envelope and an envelope follower. The modulators can not only influence the cutoff of one or more filters, but are also usable to create compressor and expander / gate effects.

Even though the video already shows a lot of action, the Iotine Core 4 can be much more subtle as well as much more brute if you want it to be. Very very versatile!"

Frequensteiner, WMD PDO and Soundmachines Lightstrips

Published on Jul 30, 2019 SchneidersLaden

Mike Brown's creations live on.

"In this short video we show that with just four modules and a small case it is possible to build an unusual percussion/sequencer box that is played via two Soundmachines LS1 Lightstrips. The Phase Displacement Oscillator gives us the possibility to create something like a repeating four step trigger sequence, when tuned down to LFO territory. These four events then ping the filter. In the end of the video there are also some filter-sweeps by the legendary Livewire Frequensteiner! We have added some effects to the main output."

The Metasonix RK6 -12db low pass tube filter

Published on Jul 30, 2019 SchneidersLaden

"The Metasonix RK6 is a low-pass filter based on a tube-design. In this video we show one of the great strengths of this module - adding warmth to digital oscillators. Our sound source in this example is the E-355 - we send the signal alternately directly into the mixer and through the RK6 and then into the mixer. No other effects are used. Why are we doing this? That's what Phil can explain best:

"Often customers ask me how to add some warmth to a digital signal or sample. I never really had an answer ready, because many devices saturate and distort nicely but lack in delivering on precisely this cliché. When it comes down to it, to make it sound warm all the ugly, cold and overexaturated parts of the signal should be eliminated. The beautiful parts should be captured and enhanced. The Metasonix RK6 closes this gap like a hero. Listen to the linked Video below to hear how it forms a round piece of music from of a cold, stiff wavetable sequence. The 2nd part of the video contains pure Metasonix DNA.

Conclusion: It is ugly but closes a crucial gap in your soul."

Rare Mulogix Slave 32 - Wendy Carlos DK Synergy Rack Synth SN WC002 ?

via this auction, also on Reverb

Update: you can find a link to the schematics and user manual further below.

Only one was previously featured back in 2011 for a MOTM sale posted here. According to the seller: "Supposedly the WC stands for Wendy Carlos but I have never been able to verify it. i even contacted Stoney the creator of the Slave and he thinks I am correct BUT he can not find the records in his attic."

Auction description: "I purchased this Slave in 1998. I was not even aware they existed until reading Mark Vail's book 'Vintage Synthesizers'. I am sure that book is what infected a lot of us with the vintage synth BUG.

This is like a rack mount Synergy with more features. You can control the velocity, pitch, and modulation from any vintage or modern midi controller.

The internal board is marked 002 and the hand written serial number has faded or been accidentally wiped off with a misguided spritz of contact cleaner but it also reads 002. The synth is in overall good, un-abused shape with no bent rack ears etc. It does have some very mild rack rash here and there in the typical places but overall it is very clean.

"Electronic Dream Plant Limited, WASP Synthesizer. Battery operated. Used, all functions work. 5 knobs missing their covers. Some ware and gaff tape residue on the underside. Must have for any synth collector. Does not have MIDI as the one on E-Bay from Sweden wrongly states. The Link connector are for the propitiatory digital interface EDP developed so you could link several Wasps with a Caterpillar controller."
