'Valles Marineris' Ambient Improvisation (Novation Peak, Ditto X4)

Published on Sep 20, 2019 State Azure

"Another ambient track with just Peak and a Ditto X4. I recorded two loops into the Ditto then improvised over them. Custom presets, and only Peak internal FX used."

Configurations by Shasta Cults Now Available

Announced back in July 31, Shasta Cults' Configurations composed on the Buchla 700 is now available on Bandcamp.

"Recorded in 2017, employing the processes of non-linear waveshaping, frequency modulation and feedback, Configurations consists of eight programs captured live to multitrack using a rare, fully functional Buchla 700 digital-hybrid instrument designed in the late 1980s. Whereas previously released works made with the 700 almost always consist in simple manipulations of the single factory preset, this album delves deep into the instrument's rich sonic vocabulary to offer the listener a more elaborate demonstration of the system's capabilities."

Roland MC-101 Groovebox Sounds

Published on Sep 20, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"The Roland MC-101 is a powerful and compact groovebox. It has four channels, which can each be used as a powerful 16 track drum channel, polyphonic synth or looper channel. It also included a powerful sequencer and built in effects. The MC-101 also runs on batteries if you want to make music away from a power outlet.

The synthesizer has PCM as well as virtual analog oscillators and an impressive 64 voices of polyphony. The drum tracks can load built in or user added samples from the SD card. The looper tracks can record and loop other channels or the master output.

Expert Sleepers Coming to Signal Sounds' First Makker Event

via Signal Sounds, starting with a note on Makker:

" 'Makker' is a Scots word that means 'maker' in English. It's spelling and it's meaning developed and it came to be 'Makar', which is now the term for the Scots Poet Laureate.

In this series of events at Signal Sounds we'll host makers, designers, artists and creators at our new home on Parnie Street for live performances and discussion on their creative process.

We're very pleased to be able to bring Expert Sleepers here for our first event!

They very recently launched the ES-9, a eurorack compatible USB audio interface that's capable of binding hardware and software together in a manner that we don't think has ever been done before.

At this edition of Makker, the creator behind Expert Sleepers, Os, will perform live using the ES-9. We'll then have a patch breakdown, so we can see how the performance was built. You'll have the opportunity to get hands on with one of the ES-9s we have here in the flesh and we'll also have a Q&A at the end.

The event is free but space is limited.

While we realise that many of you who get this mail-out might not be close enough to us to visit in person, we'd welcome those of you who are at our new premises on Parnie Street. The banner above links to a facebook event if you would like to indicate your attendance.

Don't worry though! For those who're not able to see us in person our aim is to document these events so that everyone can benefit from them. More on that soon we hope!

Free L.A. Synth Expo Returns to Echo Park with Increased Modular presence

RSVP Here "After the 2018 launch, which brought over 1,000 musicians to a warehouse in Echo Park, the free Los Angeles Synth & Pedal Expo will return on September 28-29, 2019 in the same space on West Temple Street, in collaboration with local stores Analogue Haven, Noisebug and Truetone Music.

The involvement of Modular specialists Analog Haven and Noisebug (selling most products at a discount for the occasion) boosted the presence of Eurorack builders: this year there will be an entire room dedicated to the format.

A larger space will host the large format synth companies (see floorplan), where many established builders will have the opportunity to showcase their latest products.

There's a lot of curiosity, in particular, for the new ASM Hydrasynth and the EarthQuaker Devices Eurorack version of their Afterneath Reverb. Their presence at the show will represent some sort of West Coast debut. Tangible Instrument will also showcase the soon to be in production prototype of the company's new synth.

As usual, the show will feature a rich presence of pedal manufacturers. The stompbox format in recent years has developed in creative ways that have attracted the attention of the more creative synth players, with devices by companies like EarthQuaker Devices, Red Panda, Meris and Chase Bliss Audio (among others), whose effects will be represented at the LA show.

Like all the other Synth & Pedal Expos, there's no charge at the door. Here's the list of confirmed manufacturers

-CALC- The Hungarians - Novation Summit Bi-Timbral Polysynth fooling around with some friends

Uploaded on Sep 20, 2019 -CALC-

"A petite jamette using the Novation Summit.
My prototype unit went to Budapest for some video work and came back with an absolutely killer patch on it. I really wanted to use it and so I came up with this track. (thanks to Yank, Imre and Chromasound!!!)

Here I'm recording Summit's Part B sequence into some flex machines on the OT and then noodling around with a sequence sent to Summit from Circuit.

The Circuit Mono Station chirps up and is set up with a random sequence, thats then sent through the Otobit Jnr pedal.... I LOVE THAT THING.

Towards the end theres a little bit of keys playing to fill the sound out
Octatrack is simply looping the Summit (in reverse) and delivering a rather nice beat.
The (borrowed) Roland TR 08 is thumping it's kick out every so often too. I didn't think I'd like that box quite as much as I do too. For 808 duties its great.
The little mixer to the right of Summit is the excellent Aux expander called 4Mul from Syntherjack, thats really useful too.

Hope you enjoy it
