KORG EX-800 (1984) OUTTAKES

Published on Apr 13, 2020 Nacho Marty Meyer

"I found these recordings that I did not include in the KORG EX-800 demo made in 2015: [below] All the sounds were made using only the KORG EX-800 hybrid synthesizer, no external effects or processes were used, I sold this "SYNTHE" in 2018 or 2019 maybe, I loved this machine, if only it had fast envelopes to be able to make percussive sounds because I really like the way it sounds"

Sequential Artist Spotlight Interview with PHIL KOPSAFTIS

You can find the interview on Sequential's website here.

"When he’s not busy outside the music world as a caretaker of an historical site, Phil Kopsaftis is likely creating sound and music for the indie film and game world or documenting unique and creative synth tips and tricks on his YouTube Channel. He likes to share and employ techniques and approaches that aren’t always obvious on the surface, and ends up frequently crossing into less-traveled musical territory. His hope is to ignite that same sense of adventure and exploration in other synth owners and inspire them to take their instruments to new musical and sonic areas.

We chatted with Phil on how he’s using the Prophet-6 in his music."

Staying Inspired During Isolation - Novation w/ Danielle ‘Danz’ Johnson

You'll find the full article on Novation here.

"A bit about myself: I make music under the moniker of Computer Magic. I’ve been making music for roughly ten years now. I had no idea I could even write a song until I sat down and tried. I taught myself how to write music by ear and produce it by watching YouTube videos. Eventually, I got signed to a label in Japan. In the states I started a record label to release my music called Channel 9 Records. For Channel 9, I design my artwork and merchandise, order stock from pressing plants and find physical and digital distributors for the records. I was able to funnel money into the record label by licensing my songs which, luckily enough, I own all the rights to, being the sole songwriter, arranger, engineer and producer."

Gotharman’s New SpazeDrum Now Available for Pre-Order

Gotharman’s New SpazeDrum featured in previous posts here, is now available for order.

Details via Gotharman's website here.

"Voice Structure

It has 4 analog voices, that each has 4 parts - 16 parts in total. With the 4 parts of each analog voice, it is possible to program 4 variations of the same sound, or even 4 completely different sounds, that will cut each other off, when playing them back.

The Drum Oscillator of each part can be set up to one of four configurations, at a time:

Analog Percussion - A dual analog percussion oscillator and a digital oscillator. The analog percussion oscillator has special parameters like Shape, Buzz and G-Ray feedback. The digital oscillator can run in several modes, like waveform, resonator, percussion oscillator, cymbal oscillator, clap oscillator and sampler. Each oscillator can have most parameters modulated by any modulation source. The analog percussion oscillator can be FM'ed by a percussion noise source and by the digital oscillator. Can produce kicks, snares, analog hihats, toms, claps, noise and much more...

Analog Cymbal - A dual analog percussion oscillator and a digital oscillator. The analog cymbal oscillator has special parameters like Shape, Buzz and G-Ray feedback. The digital oscillator can run in several modes, like waveform, resonator, percussion oscillator, cymbal oscillator, clap oscillator and sampler. Each oscillator can have most parameters modulated by any modulation source. The analog Cymbal oscillator can be FM'ed by a multiple square wave source and by the digital oscillator. Can produce metallic sounds like cymbals and hihats, noises and much more...

Analog Clap - A dual analog percussion oscillator and a digital oscillator. The analog clap oscillator has special parameters like Shape and G-Ray feedback. The digital oscillator can run in several modes, like waveform, resonator, percussion oscillator, cymbal oscillator, clap oscillator and sampler. Each oscillator can have most parameters modulated by any modulation source. The analog Clap oscillator can be modulated by a clap oscillator, to produce the classical clap sound, and it can be FM'ed by a noise source and by the digital oscillator. Can produce hand claps, noises and more...

Will From Humble Audio Explains Their Quad Operator Eurorack FM Module

Published on Apr 13, 2020 Perfect Circuit

"Will Stockwell from Humble Audio came by to give us some background on what inspired the Quad Operator and to show us some of its sound design capabilities. The Quad Operator approaches FM without the constraints of modulation algorithms and lets you freely modulate any of the four operators with another operator or itself. Each of the four operators have variable waveshape and produce all of the traditional analog waveforms. They can also be locked in phase together like a digital FM synth or used in free running mode.

The Quad Operator has a knob per function control layout which is uncommon for FM synths and allows quick changes to the sound. At 8:42 Will goes over the control layout for the four operators and modulation matrix mixer as well as the Algo expander which allows you to store modulation presets and crossfade between them.
