Why is the Roland JUNO-106 still so popular?

video by synthlegends

"In this video you listen only to Roland JUNO-106 sounds (Multitrackdemo also including drums). I used to own a JUNO-106 several years ago, then sold it, because I also have a JUNO-60. After some time I missed it and decided to buy another JUNO-106. The Reasons are:
1. it sounds different from the JUNO-60 (there is another filter)
2. it has great MIDI functions to implement it in a modern setup
3. it has portamento
4. the self resonance is really outstanding for technoid sounds
5. three Key Modes, including unison mode, which is easer to access but it sounds only useful for drums ans industrial bases
6. it's perfect sounding in a mix and a great production tool
7. it has a broad sound palette and is useful for modern styles
8. it's great for drums and bass

The JUNO-60 has got an arpeggiator, the 106 not. So what, in a recording session I use it from my DAW or an external one. For Jamming with a drummashine without computer, the JUNO-60 makes more fun.

So I decided that the JUNO-60 is great sounding, but not a substitute for a JUNO-106.

The reasons, why it is still so popular are:
1. It always sounds great and it has a wide sweet spot
2. It is simple to program
3. It covers a range of 80 to 90 % of all bread and butter sounds you really need
4. It is capable of a lot of genres, italo disco, 80-ies pop, electro, techno, house and much more"

Akai AX-73 & VX-90 - 100 patches - Demo

video by Sonic Freaks

"You can find these presets here: https://sonicfreaks.com/shop/akai-vx-...

We are proud to present our 100 brand new presets for the Akai AX-73 & Akai VX-90. These vintage synthesizers from 1986 are true classic analog synthesizers with a very special character. Underestimated by many, but the true connoisseur knows what these beautiful sounding synths can do. Both synths have VCOs and analog 24dB lowpass filter. Unique is the PWM that can be used on any waveform of the VCO creating all kinds of sonic flavours.

Many late 80's synthesizers suffered from the lack of knobs and sliders to program sounds. This resulted in the end users often not being able to understand the synths properly. Designing usable sound patches was therefore a challenge. This also applies to the Akai AX-73 & Akai VX-90.

Sonic Freaks has therefore designed 100 very useful and modern sounding patches. These patches are fully compatible with the Tauntek firmware upgrade for the Akai AX-73 & Akai VX-90 and can, provided this upgrade has been performed, be loaded into the synth using a sysex dump.

Also included is a high resolution tape dump (44Khz - 24Bit) which you can be loaded into the Akai AX-73 or Akai VX-90 using a traditional tape dump. For more details, please read the installation instructions which you can download for free from our website!"

Sequential Synth Tips With Evan Hodges: Scoring For film With The OB-6

video by Sequential

"Welcome back to 'Sequential Synth Tips,' where some of our favorite artists share their tips, tricks, and techniques on a Sequential synth. In this episode, we feature composer Evan Hodges demonstrating the techniques he uses with the OB-6 to create scores for film.

Evan Hodges is a composer for film and mixed media that holds a degree in Jazz Studies from Georgia State University. He has scored more than 50 films, including both feature films and short films, two musicals, and a full video game soundtrack. Scoring comes intuitively to Hodges. His background and training in jazz, with its highly improvisational component, allows him to adapt quickly and easily to score both simple and advanced thematic musical cues appropriate for every scene. In 2017, Hodges scored the feature, The Canadoo. He was Emmy-nominated in 2018 for the PBS documentary feature, My Dear Children.

RH Electronics Prophet 5 style - SSI2144 filter talk

video by RH Electronics

"This is a little bit more information on the filter board, using an SSI2144 clone of the SSM2044.
The daughterboard has it's own VCA, mixer and summers etc so another board could easily be made to add a different VCF to the synth, such as the 3320"
