Soma Pulsar 23 Stereo Delay Exploration (No Talking)

video upload by Matt Lowery

"So, I had no idea before today, but apparently the Pulsar 23 gives you two discrete delay lines if certain conditions are met. I wanted to explore some sounds, so I thought I'd invite you along. You brought ice cream, right?"

Roland U-110/20/220 | A dream for the gigging musician in the late 80s

video upload by Espen Kraft

"Roland released the U-series in the late 80s and instantly they became keyboards that a lot of gigging and amateur musicians really embraced.

My demo song here uses sounds from all three romplers. I use both internal effects from the romplers as well as external reverb. Some sounds, like the piano, have been compressed really hard in the mix to get that "house" sound to it.
The drums, again, only from the stock factory sounds, has been treated with a lot of compression and external effects to cut through.
All the parts you see me play in the opening are recorded as I was recording the sounds themselves, into the DAW for mixing."

"All pots, keys, and switches work!

The pitch ribbon control tends to short out but still plays really well."

"Kind of strange to say that this is a rare bird nowadays.

Fully functional Yamaha DX-9. This essentially the 4-operator version of the DX7 DX5 DX1 Yamaha DX Family

Battery has been placed with a new cr2032 battery holder and patches loaded in.

The left end cheek has been damaged but it’s just a cosmetic defect. The left end cheek can easily be replaced with a donor part or maybe some custom wood-end cheeks (available from some eBay seller in Europe)."

Memorymode Patching Demo

video upload by boxoftextures

"I love this thing. When I was in my 20s I suppose this was *the* polysynth. Yes, I know there were others, but this was the one I always wanted but I had no chance of being able to afford one. So when Memorymode came out I jumped on it immediately. Is it the same as the original? Not sure, but I think that's the wrong question. And the answer is that Memorymode feels like the original and can make the patches I've always wanted to make. And hey, it costs about $8,000 or $12,000 less than the original to boot, so I'm not complaining at all.

In a way I don't have all that much to say about this synth, other than that it's easy to program and sounds great. Three thick oscillators, nice filter, and some decent modulation capabilities (a little limited, but hey, that's how things were in the '80s). Plus, I can toss it in my backpack, which is something you could never do with the 70 pound original.

Recommended.
