The Access Virus Has Been Discontinued

According to Amazona.de, the Access Virus has been officially discontinued.

Many people have already suspected it: Access mastermind Christoph Kemper has confirmed to us that the Access Virus TI2 has no longer been produced for a few months. There were many clues, as the last Access Virus TI2 series was released in 2009. The Virus TI2 series included the Polar, Snow, Darkstar and Desktop models. Nothing new has been heard from Access Virus Synthesizer since then. The TI2 has been available for all these years and disappeared from shops in the last few months. Only power supplies and rackmounts can be found on the Access Virus website.

The move away from Access Virus could have something to do with the fact that Christoph Kemper discovered his love for amp propiling in 2011 and released the first Kemper Amp, which is still a complete success today. Despite this success, Access had a stand at Superbooth 2018 and we were able to ask Christoph Kemper about plans for new synthesizers.

Christoph Kemper confirmed that he is still interested in synthesizers, but is currently at full capacity with the Kemper amps. It became clear that his company did not have the capacity to develop Kemper amps and Access synthesizers at the same time. In the interview it was suggested that there might be an Access Virus TI3, but he didn't want to specify."

The patch that launched the OCHD EXPANDER // Polyphonic Generative Ambient Eurorack Modular

"Here we have a detailed run down of the patch that launched the expander. I brought this case and exact patch back from my journey up to Glasgow for the OCHD-OBER-FEST live event with Instruo in Signal Sounds. We launched the ochd expander at that event and this patch was my demo for that event. Note - you can check out the live event re uploaded and editing in 4k below.

This is patch is a 4 voice, polyphonic generative ambient piece that uses 4 wavetable oscillators into 4 VCAs for heavily modulated chordal sound sources. That is then tone, drive and level modulated before feeding two FX with a novel patch routing. It's highly dynamic, from near silent quiet sections to loud sections. All that dynamism comes from ochd and the ochd expander."

Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field Ambient Sampler Instrument Music

"Hello there!

And welcome to a nice little ambient patch for you to relax to. Using the Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field, and some instruments I made using the built in stereo sampler, I made this ambient music piece. I also used the excellent Teenage Engineering TP-7 to record the audio, before recording its’ playback into Logic, to help achieve a more tape-like final piece. I had a lot of fun making this piece, and experimenting along the way so i hope you enjoy!

I have a couple of videos in the works, such as a walkthrough video of making a piece similar to this one, using the OP-1 Field and its’ Sampler, to make some ambient music, and I’m also working on a video focused on the Make Noise Morphagene, one of my all time favourite Eurorack modules, but please let me know if there’s anything else you’d like me to explore and I’ll be happy to have a go if I can find the time!

"I had an inspiring and heart-warming experience meeting Jacob Brashears from Shear Electronics at NAMM 2024. Jacob, along with his mother Cheryl Brashears (a high performance systems engineer with a storied background) have together created a truly remarkable sounding discrete analog polyphonic synthesizer in the style of the Oberheim 8-voice Iconic SEM Synthesizer. It's aptly called the "Relic". In addition to achieving the classic sound and offering all the familiar routing of it's predecessor, the "Relic" delivers a new take with voltage controllable filter profiles (the ability to transition between HP, LP and BP filters for example), waveform blending, rich intermodulation distortion at fingertip control and all parameters are controllable with the highest resolution digital encoders available. Be sure to keep following and support this next generation synth company of mother and son on their journey to follow their dreams.
