New intellijel Atlantis SH-101 Inspired Eurorack Module - Video & Full Details

Intellijel Atlantis from Dylan Brown on Vimeo.

"Just scratching the surface of the Intellijel Atlantis. Atlantis is the sole sound source, and in most clips is sequenced by Metropolis and run through the Modcan Dual Delay and vintage Lexicon 224 reverb. Other than grabbing the Dr. Octature a few times for extra modulation, no other modulations or sound sculpting modules were used in any of the tracks (except for the effects mentioned)."

via intellijel

"The Atlantis is heavily inspired by the architecture and sound of the classic Roland SH-101. It has always been one of our favorite synths and we really liked how the seemingly limited architecture allowed for all sorts of creative and musically useful sounds to be easily generated.

Just like the 101 it is quick to dial in beautifully rich bass and lead sounds. However this module uses triangle core VCOs (based on the Dixie core) instead of Saw core which respond much more musically to FM. The modulation oscillator can be used as an LFO or VCO (audio rate) and both track very precisely over 8 or more octaves.

In the mixer section you can adjust the balance of the primary oscillators waveforms including a sinewave which is normalled to the EXT IN jack. You could also patch in one of the modulation oscillators waveforms into this channel and be able to operate the Atlantis as a proper two oscillator synth. There is a switch labelled “LINK” which enables the modulation vco pitch to be based as an offset of the primary VCO. This is useful when using it as a stacked dual vco or when you have the mod VCO acting as the linear FM source for the primary vco and wish to maintain the ratio.

The filter section is a Roland style cascaded 4 pole multimode filter with LP, BP and HP modes. The LP Boost switch engages a special mode useful for the LP that produces a much fatter and prominent sound that is not drowned out by resonance (unlike the original SH-101). The filter self-oscillates to produce a very clean sine wave which also tracks 1V/Oct. Between the Mod VCO, Primary VCO, Sub Oscillator and resonating filter it is possible to layer up to four different pitches at one time.

The envelope section is an ADSR with a dual range switch. It also can be set to a looping mode which can be gated on/off externally.

The output VCA feeds into a two level output clipping circuit that you can use to get a much ballsier/dirtier sound.

Main features:

Modulation VCO: triangle core with Hard Sync and Link switch to connect pitch to primary
Primary VCO: triangle core with Hard Sync, Octave switches, Linear/Exp FM and PWM
Global modulation bus with four VCO waveforms, noise and S&H options
4-Pole COTA multimode filter
Looping ADSR with range switch, manual gate, and external level (velocity) control.
Three position output clipping circuit
27 jacks for creative and complex patching options
Header on back of pcb that allows it to be linked (normalled) to the Intellijel Metropolis sequencer
Skiff Friendly
Starts shipping January 1st.

Summary of enhancements over the SH-101 core:

Triangle core vcos (with far better tracking and Hard sync) instead of saw core
Primary vco has linear FM (not just exp)
MOD Vco can be linked to the primary VCO pitch CV.
Modulation oscillator switchable from LFO to VCO
Filter is multimode, 2/4pole switchable and has a special LP boost mode
Filter allows for selection of inverted ADSR mod source
Filter tracks 1V/oct
Mixer section includes and external source which is normalled to a sinewave
Filter has built in soft clipping
Envelope has looping option, re-trigger and selectable time range
Output VCA has two stage clipping circuit
External clock input for the S&H
Patch points for every synthesis section

Atlantis | Eurorack Ambient

Published on Jun 20, 2017 Björn Bommersheim

"A tribute to Mark Harris and the Intellijel Atlantis module. I satisfied my lust for a roland sh synth voice and went for the awesome intellijel atlantis. Somehow a sh 101 in an eurorack module with a hell alot of patch points. So this patch is mainly influenced by the intellijel atlantis and its sound.

Enjoy and leave your thoughts ...

Intellijel Atlantis SH-101 Style Eurorack Synth Voice

"The Intellijel Atlantis was constructed in the spirit of the Roland’s legendary SH-101. Like its inspiration, the Atlantis excels at rich bass sounds and soaring leads. However, unlike the SH-101, the Atlantis ditches the sawtooth core for a triangle core, designed by David Dixon, sourced from the Intellijel Dixie. The decision to add a triangle core means that the Atlantis excels at FM style sounds. The modulator oscillator can be switched from an LFO to a VCO, with both oscillators able to track at an astonishing 8 octaves.

The module features a handy mixer section that allows for the convenient mixing of waveforms. Additionally, users could patch the modulator oscillator into this section to use the Atlantis as a more traditional dual oscillator.

The module’s filter section is essentially a Roland style cascaded 4-pole multimode filter that can be switched between low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass. The accompanying LP switch decreases the amount of resonance in low-pass mode, enabling the creation of deeper, fatter sounds.

Atlantis’s envelope section consists of a traditional ADSR envelope with an optional looping mode and the ability to be activated by an external gate. The output VCA feeds directly into an advanced clipping circuit that can be utilized to achieve a nastier/grimier sound."

Intellijel Metropolis Sequencing Atlantis Synth Voice

Published on Jul 24, 2017 Perfect Circuit Audio

"This patch uses all Intellijel Modules with a Metropolis sequencing an Atlantis full voice. The Atlantis then runs into a Polaris filter in phaser mode and then to a 1U Digiverb for effects. A 1U Noise Random Tools provides extra S&H modulation to the Metropolis and Polaris. The system is housed in an intellijel 4U aluminum case.

The Metropolis is a unique and powerful musical sequencer inspired by the Ryk M-185 (a Roland System 100m format sequencer.) but with many additional enhancements and functions.

The Intellijel Atlantis was constructed in the spirit of the Roland’s legendary SH-101. Devil Fish-Kaoss Pad & Devil Fish-Controls the Modular

Published on Jun 20, 2014 TB-303 Devil Fish·20 videos

"Centered around the Korg Kaoss Pad 2, a live glitched up version of a track called 'Empathy' by 'Random Knobhead'. Bass from the Analog four. Percussion from Tiptop modules BD808, Hats808 triggered by Tiptop Trigger Riot, Make Noise DPO through Intelligel Korgasmatron into Make Noise QMMG triggered by 4MS Pingable envelope and snare & noise hit from the Yamaha RS7000, Delayed noise from Roland SH-101 through Moogerfooger MF-101 (LPF) with cutoff freq modulated by sine wave from CP251 Control Processor, then into Make Noise Echophon modulated by the Woggle Bug and freeze in triggered from Trigger Riot. Blips from Roland TB-303 Devil Fish through Moogerfooger MF-104z Delay with time modulated by sine wave from CP251 control processor.
The KP2 is an insert effect on the mixer with all channels running through it.
The Midi keyboard is triggering snare sounds in the RS7000.
A mellower version of this with two extra synth lines from the Analog four can be found (and downloaded) at:-https://soundcloud.com/linxstar/empat..."

Devil Fish-Sequencing Intellijel Atlantis

"Despite the complex looking patching arrangement it is actually very basic (apart from the modulated drop in sound effects)
It goes like this-
TB-303 Devil Fish CV out to Intellijel Atlantis 1V/OCT in. " " Gate out to " " TRIG in.
Steady State Fate Positronic Transient Gate in diode slew mode with clock output from TipTop Trigger Riot to CV A Step Response in, and 4MS PEG Env 1 out to CV A Damp Control in.
TipTop Trigger Riot is receiving clock from the Elektron Analog four.
4MS PEG is being triggered by Trigger Riot and modulated by Intellijel Dr.Octature II LFO out to Env1 Skew.
The Devil Fish is receiving triggers to the Dynamic Bank Switching CV ins from the TipTop Trigger Riot.

The modulated sound effect drop ins are the complex patching part, which goes like this-
Make Noise DPO-into Intellijel uVCF-into Make Noise Echophon- All modulated by Intellijel Dr. Octature II/Atlantis & 4MS PEG- Output from Intellijel Unity Mixer.
Dr.Octature II in LFO mode with outputs 1,2,3,4,5,6, and 8 routed to DPOs-Shape, Angle, Fold, Osc2 Expo(FM) and FM bus index, Atlantis Sample and Hold to DPO Osc1(as LFO) 1v/oct, Expo and Linear(FM), and to uVCF FM1. PEG is receiving modulation from Dr.Octature II into Env1 Skew, and Env2 Skew and Division, the PEGs OR out is modulating the uVCF FM2.
Dr.Octature II is modulating the Echophons Echo, Freeze and Pitch 1.
Dr.Octature II is in an FM cross patching scenario with the DPO OSC1 sine (as LFO) and Osc2 sine outs to FM in 1&2 respectively.
A solo of this sound can be viewed on my other channel, here is the link:-http://youtu.be/omjaxYdhiOI"
