ALM Busy Circuits Dinky's Taiko & Make Noise Telharmonic

Published on Aug 20, 2017 Delta Aquari

"Quick jam with ALM Busy Circuit's Dinky's Taiko and the Make Noise Telharmonic. Been using the Dinky for simple basslines a lot lately, still waiting for my Pamelas New Workout to make it really come alive as a rhytmic drum module.
Acidlab Drumatix and the PICO Drums module by Erica Synths were used for the drums."

Digital Waves Roland JD 800

Published on Aug 19, 2017 100 Things I Do

"This week I thought it was time to take a look at the Roland JD-800 again. One of the most unique synths Roland has made to date. With an original list price of around $3000 back in 1991 when it came out it was the first sign that people were getting sick of presets and the pain of menu diving to create new sounds!

The JD 800 suffers from a few unique gremlins such as the 'Red Keys of Death" (The glue used to secure the key weights degrades over time and leaves a nasty trail of sticky goop and lost key weights!).

Delamination of the keybed connector is also quite common and then with so many digitally scanned sliders they get dirty and the machine can get quiet glitchy.

I have had to deal with each of the above problems over the years to keep this synth alive... which has surprised me due to me not actually using the synth much. The sound is like a Wavestation mashed with a D-50 , no real wave sequencing but you get 108 waves... saw, sine all the way to attack samples of various instruments. The Digital resonant filter adds even more unique flavour. The filter can be quite hard to dial in for the sound you want.

As I have said before I hardly ever use this synth and it is always on the potential chopping block to be sold when I find a new synth of interest :D"

"Good Condition and recently gone through by a local tech who also installed the a new

Tauntek programmer with the following updates:

A new MCU-based programmer pcb is now available for the OB-1

I have designed a replacement for the Oberheim programmer with the following features:

1) 64 programs in 8 banks of 8

2) Programs are stored in non-volatile EEPROM. No battery needed.

3) After a program is loaded, only controls that have moved are "live", so patch editing is now possible.

4) Manual mode forces all controls to be "live".

5) Optional (non-volatile setting) periodic flash of current bank selection

6) Optional (non-volatile setting) quantization of coarse freq for oscillator 1 to octaves

7) Comes with 24 pre-programmed patches, which can be over-written later if you chose

8) Smaller pcb mounts on four of the existing standoffs, providing better access to pcb underneath

9) Implemented connectors are the same as original programmer for easy installation

10) All IC's are socketed. All components are through-hole.

11) 20-turn trimpot for easier one-time oscillator tuning adjustment"

"A set up for drone looping with the Moog Voyager
Real nice simple meditation music making. So far the Rowin twin looper has proven excellent. Just don't hit it to hard with signal leave headroom for the overdub's."

A sequence from #VolcaKeys (with reverb from #Clouds and delay from Roland #Demora + receiving tempo from #VolcaFM) and pads from Waldorf #Blofeld (controlled by K-Board Keith McMillen) - that's all!

"Yep, it's another Montage 8 demo. This one features arpeggiators, the "Super Knob", switching scenes, and real-time part tweaking. For the uninitiated, the words at the bottom of the screen are the presets being heard, although they may have been edited from the original factory settings."

2. keybdwizrd - Yamaha Montage Demo #1
"A rather brief demo of the Yamaha Montage 8 synthesizer. This video is somewhat of a test - updates to Mac OS finally required me to get a new camera, use a new video recording process, and learn a new video editor. Tons of fun!"

3. Montage Demo #3
"Sparking FM synth, Spanish guitar, drawbar organ, orchestral strings, FM bass, pop horn section, and a selection of clavinets."
