BTW, I want give a HUGE THANKS to everyone who took the time to create and submit these. There have been a total of 47 shots so far. I know how busy things can get, so the fact that you took the time out to one, create the patch/name, two, take a shot of it, and three, send it in is really flattering. I thank everyone privately in email, but I just wanted to say THANKS again in public. I said it in my one year anniversary post and I'll say it again, the contributions by the readers of this site really do add to it. Running the site by myself can be overwhelming with a day job and a family to take care of, so stuff like this really makes it worth it.

As for any of you that think these Matrixsynth by... posts are a bit too much, I will start putting up one post a day with all Matrixsynth by... shots. I'm also guessing over time the number that come in will naturally go down, but I do welcome people to feel free to send these in whenever they feel like it. It would be cool to see one come in a month after they stop. Thanks again. matrix

  1. So, dude, what is your day job? Whenever I meet geeks, like at MusikMesse and Synth DIY in Cambridge, people were talking about the blogs, and the first question everyone asks is 'Who is Matrix Synth?' 'What does he do?' 'How can he have a day job when he posts so much?'

Now I've posted my office, my music, and even a picture of me. Your turn!

  2. I do contract work in the software industry. Mainly project management, consulting and test. I was a Test Manager for a large company and a large team in a previous life. I burned out; I wasn't spending any time with my new born daughter and didn't have time for synths or other things I wanted to do, so I left. Fortunately I found a position where I can focus on the work being done and not all of the other things like people management, career growth, meetings, politics, etc. Just the work. There was a price to be paid (slightly lower income, no company insurance and risk of downtime), but so far it has worked out great. I have a ton of experience in what I do so what I'm doing now is a lot easier for me to do than what I was doing before. I used to be part of the 60 hour a week crew only to come home and fall asleep thinking about what's next at work. Weekends outside of the office? Thinking about work. Bi-annual reviews and goal tracking along with managing releases and the quality of the release while looking for ways to streamline and improve process while understaffed is a lot to worry about. So.. I kind of saved up the skills I learned for a vacation. I worked my ass off to get the skills I needed to do what I do now.

As for posting so much, I've got it down to a rhythm. You will notice that unlike the better blogs, Music Thing and Create Digital Music : ), my posts are very simple, short and concise. I don't consider myself a journalist although I do like to write at times and I did some game reviews for Gamezilla.com. : ) BTW, this comment is taking me more time and effort than a post.

So, I just try to get to the point and get something up that doesn't take too much time to consume but has a link to more info if you do have the time to consume. I also try hard not to voice my opinion as I do not want to bias any of the content. Everyone has their own tastes so who am I to rain on it or influence it. And... there's the comments where people can engage all they want. I try, but you'll notice I'll sometimes slip and sometimes pull a comment I made or two.

As for short posts, I do this for two reasons - one, it's easier for me (about the same effort as replying to an email), allowing me to post more, and two I think it's easier to consume for my readers. I don't want to burn them out either.

How do I find time to get all this content? The content comes to me all through the email lists and RSS feeds I sub to. I never go looking for stuff. I always think I will need to, but it never happens - stuff always comes in as you can see in the via links.

As for managing the blog with the day job, the day job gets absolute priority, period. Without it, I couldn't do this. You will notice that sometimes other blogs will put stuff up before me. That's because I'm working. When I don't post, I work. I also work nights after my daughter goes to sleep. It's funny though because it no longer feels like work. I'm actually eager to do it at times.

As for posting pictures... I'm too paranoid. : ) Also I don't want this blog to be about me. Who I am isn't important. Just think of me as a filter for stuff I happen to come across in the world of synths.

  3. And we all thank you for it. You wouldn't believe how much love there is for you amongst synth people I meet.

  4. Thanks. Bizarre, I tell yeah. : ) Just doing my thing. I think people would be a little dissapointed if they saw/knew me in real life. Just ask Carbon111, he talks down to me all the time. ; )

  6. The second one. The older ones had the plastic/glass cover on top of the display.

To reduce spam, comments for posts older than one week are not displayed until approved, usually same day. Do not insult people. For items for sale, do not ask if it is still available. Check the auction link and search for the item. Auctions are from various sellers and expire over time. Posts remain for the pics and historical purposes. This site is meant to be a daily snapshot of some of what was out there in the world of synths.
