Back to 1986 - PSB & Jarre with old samplers and synths

Published on Sep 21, 2018 Espen Kraft

"This track is a mix of three favorite synthpop tracks. 'Paninaro' and 'Domino Dancing' by the Pet Shop Boys and 'Zoolookologie' by Jean Michel Jarre. It has the tempo of Paninaro and the vocal oohs inspired by Domino Dancing.
The signature 'voice' sample in my track is created by myself by sampling a friends voice on another track of mine and processing it heavily and sampling it back into the Emax.
Most of the sounds in this track is samplers and most, if not all the samples are my own work, including the thunder in the beginning and other effects.

The track is called "Americana" and in reality this was the nickname of a girl I once knew. Way back and back I was....

Growing up I listened to so much synth-pop and it's only natural that my own tracks takes inspiration from many of the acts I loved back then. I still love them and listen to them!

Dr. Böhm Digital-Drums from 1983 / TEASER

Published on Aug 7, 2018 Espen Kraft

"This is a quick teaser of the fantastic German 'Linndrum' called Dr.Böhm Digital-Drums from around 1983.
Fully programmable and with a optional keyboard attached that gives the most beautiful Italo/synthpop auto accompaniment.

This is all played live in the studio for a quick demonstration. Full video soon!
All sounds from the Böhm, except the Italo synthbell that is the Roland Alpha Juno 2. A splash of some reverb and compression and its off!"

Note the above is a video I found for Böhm Electronic: Matador 26. They appear to be the same. These are the first ones to be featured on MATRIXSYNTH. More organ than synth but worth a post considering Vermona's and Bohm's synth history.

"Up for sale an ultra rare & ultra cool Böhm DD-19 drum machine.
Perfect working. Sounds amazing!
Almost excellent condition except of a scratch on the top.
Comes with a double pedal to control start/stop and function.

Someone says it's a reack version of the earlier Böhm DD, but I think it's more than that."

"Italian FM expander from the eighties rebranded from the German model Böhm 12/24originally based on Yamaha FM chips.

There are 2 rackmount models:
- DSE 24: voices polyphony
- DSE 12: voices polyphony

info RACKMOUNT a single unit. Main panel features a simple segments display, 15 buttons and 1 volume knob. All available synthesis functions are printed above the rack.

Back panel terminal connectors:
- master out
- Midi interface
- tape interface
- footswitch input for patch increase

edit VOICE 24 voices, hardware is based on Yamaha YM genuine chips:
- 4 oscillators operators
- 8 connection diagram algorithms

edit SYNTHESIS concept is close to 4 OP Yamaha TX-81Z but with only sinewave with no harmonic variations. There are 4 sinewave operators organized as algorithms, assigned as carrier or modulator linked between them on different pathways interacting on their harmonic contents depending on the variable feedback strength.
- carrier: defines the amplitude and the spectral frequency
- modulator: sets the sound timbre and the relative harmonic contents.
The module offers 32 different combinations algorithms with frequency ratio or fixed frequency: the output is fed back to its input with 7 different levels feedback, as general rule, high values feedback results in richer harmonic contents.

fm synthesis

lfo LFO 2 delayed modulators with variable depth amount, 2 destinations:
- amplitude
- pitch

fx ENVELOPE5 EGs:
- 1 EG for each OP: 4 segments +1 sustain time
- 1 EG pitch and 7 preset templates
- EG scaling tracking amplitude on lower or higher octaves.

family MIDI implementation responds to Midi System Exclusives dump.

performance PERFORMANCE up to 16 different parts with some functions:
- monophonic mode with glide option

"Pick up the phone" - on Böhm Station One

Published on Apr 27, 2015 organfairy

"It has been a while since I used this workstation - basically because I moved a couple of years ago and it was not on top of my priority list to connect up - but I thought it could be fun to get it running again now.

Unfortunately it started to smell.
So I had to dig into it and find the reason.

The music is played on the Böhm and is 'Pick up the phone' which was a hit for French singer F.R.David in 1982."

Böhm Soundlab Multi Module

via Look what I can do! where you'll find the full post.

"About 300 or so were ever made, and at least half of them were destroyed when the warehouse of the german Böhm company burned down. Needless to say, this thing is quite rare, and modules are hard to come by.
Now, the synth comes in this somewhat flimsy hardshell suitcase, and this particular specimen had some unused space that begged to be filled in a meaningful way.

My friend asked me if I could help, and I said "Yes!" - I offered to make a module with an 8-step sequencer, a state variable VCF (LM137000 anyone?), a double CV Inverter and a double "gender bender" (to convert between banana jack and 6,3mm mono plugs); thus making the most out of the available space."

"Whats in it for me" - on Yamaha PSR-78 [& Bohm Station One]

YouTube Published on May 14, 2012 by organfairy

"In my quest for a more modern repertoire I have this time turned to my neightbouring country Sweden. Amy Diamond was only 13 when she had a hit with this song. So it was kind of natural to play it on a keyboard that could be found in a lot of teenage rooms at that time: The Yamaha PSR-78.
The rhythm and some of the chords comes from the German Böhm Station One. I played the bass on the old Hohner bass pedals. And the rest is played on a Roland E-15. This system is connected to an Aria equalizer and a JVC mixer that I also managed to sneak into this video."

Böhm 12/24 synthesizer expander demo

YouTube Uploaded by ikworgek on Nov 12, 2011

"All sounds from the Böhm.

The Böhm 12/24 is a fully programmable synthesizer from Germany.
It contains 4 Yamaha FM-chips. It was aimed at the market of organplayers and it is capable of some decent organsounds but it can do much more than that. It has a memory of 400 sounds, midi in out and thru and a pair of stereo-outputs. The synth was delivered as a DIY kit, all parts were delivered but you had to essemble it yourself. It was also delivered under the name of Orla.
Böhm als made some very nice drumcomputers."
