Flame Mäander & Friends // Ambient Synth Jam with Ruismaker, Kosmonaut & EOS2 #TTNM

Published on May 24, 2020 THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"Another camping synth jam! This time the FLAME MÄANDER brought some iOS friends :) MORE INFO BELOW.

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

For this jam I played with the Mäander for a while and then added a kick drum and additional percussion from Bram Bos Ruismaker iOS AUv3 drum machine in Cubasis on my iPad. The noise snare is still the original Mäander though. Of course there was also a bunch of Kosmonaut delay and Audio Damage EOS2 reverb involved."

Flame Mäander - Dark Riverside Meditation (Wavetable Synth Jam) #TTNM

Published on May 23, 2020 THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"Dark and gloomy meditation music with the FLAME MÄANDER wavetable & filterbank synth. MORE INFO BELOW :)

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

It has been raining last night and this morning outside of our roof top tent. To capture this mood, here is a slow jam session with a powerbank-powered Flame Mäander, augmented by an ambience recording full of birdsong.

The only thing that was added to the one take recording of the dry Mäander was some Audio Damage EOS2 reverb."

FLAME MÄANDER - Feedback, Vocal Processing and Drone Experiment #TTNM

Published on May 21, 2020 THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"This is an experiment with audio feedback loops to create resonances and self-oscillation. MORE INFO BELOW :)

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

Setup:
- Headphone stereo output to mixer/recorder
- Mono/Left audio output into high-z audio input
- Control feedback with Main Out knob
- Control overall volume with Phones knob
- iPhone with NPR Podcast into line audio input

Slide the filter band faders down first. Let the external audio input through then, by looping some long triggers and then slide the band faders up slowly to make certain frequency bands resonant or self-oscillate. Self-oscillation can be reached abruptly though which might get loud, so try this at low volumes. The Main Out knob lets you adjust the overall feedback amount."

FLAME MÄANDER 2.0 - FM Synth Sound Demo (no talking) #TTNM

Published on May 19, 2020 THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"The Flame Mäander got a new FM oscillator in the 2.0 update. Here is how it sounds! No external effects or processing, just the Mäander alone :)

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

FM stands for frequency modulation, a synthesis technique in which an audio-rate oscillator’s pitch is modulated by another one at a different frequency. Of course those are just the very basics for an FM sound and things can get a lot more complex. FM synthesis is great for metallic sounds like bells and gongs and the MÄANDER’s detune & colour knobs let you tune in those timbres with ease."

Meander & Chill // A Flame Mäander 2.0 Filterbank Synth Jam #TTNM

Published on May 15, 2020 THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"A calm and airy music jam with Flame’s wavetable and filterbank groovebox!

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

In this Video I’m switching between four MIDI loops (bars) and the arpeggiator. There’s also a bunch of transposing going on. Of course the twelve filter bands are being sequenced as well for rhythmic filter effects. The ten bands above the bass frequencies are divided equally between the left and right audio output channels by the way, giving the sound a nicely stereophonic quality.

Again, the only thing that was added to the one take recording of the dry Mäander was a little bit of reverb."

Flame Mäander 2.0 - Wavetable Synth Lullaby Jam #TTNM

Published on May 15, 2020 THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"Here's a first mellow jam with the new Flame Mäander 2.0 firmware. MORE INFO BELOW :)

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

The Flame Mäander is a 4-voice paraphonic wavetable & FM synthesizer with an analog resonant filterbank. It features a live performance friendly step sequencer and arpeggiator and it even lets you sequence the individual filter bands, as well as an additional noise oscillator for percussion sounds. Of course you can upload your own oscillator wavetables too and play and control it extensively via MIDI.

In this jam session I'm using one of the new 2.0 wavetables as well as the new detune feature and pitch quantizer (so good for stand-alone live use!!!). All sounds directly from the Mäander, recorded in one take, with just a little bit of reverb added in postproduction."

Curves filterbank -Flame and Lifeforms Primary Oscillator from Pittsburgh Modular

Published on Apr 17, 2020 Dziam Bass
"Hey.
Why I love my Curves filterbank from Flame instruments and Lifeforms Primary Oscillator from Pittsburgh Modular?
well....
this module is a multimode filterbank with 12 band channels, it is very inspiring and useful to me because each band can get its modulation via the VCA inputs built-in underneath and you have odd or even out .. or All.
also every band can have its smooth output so it extends the possibilities of mixing and obtaining direct bands to the mixer.
Here I used LPF in general but when I use it with the Lifeforms Primary Oscillator module from Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers it creates an amazing audio character - also because the primary is rich in Timbres and Curves sounds really great as a filter.😀
check this video if U want to hear these two modules in action but also the use Time wizard from Shakmat Modular or Black VC EG from Erica Synths and VC OCtave switch from North Coast synthesis.
Great fun, great opportunities and see necessarily Flame Curves filterbank or other filterbanks that give a lot of joy.

Have a nice day and make more awesome music and stay safe in this weird time.😷🙃"

FLAME Midi Talking Synthesizer w/ Joysticks

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Includes original box, 2 original manuals and 4 different ac adapters for different types of worldwide voltage...

"The FLAME MIDI TALKING SYNTH is a small-sized MIDI-controlled sound module based on the analogue Speakjet ™ chip, produced by the U.S. company Magnevation LLC. Originally designed for basic artificially generated speech output in American English tongue it was then refined and further developed as an 8-bit sound module with speech-like sounds and synthetic robot voices as well as beeps, alarms, noise and retro-style sci-fi sounds. Due to the structure of the Speakjet ™ (with its complex sound synthesizer, preset sounds and serial interface) it offers an impressive range of possibilities. It contains 72 speech elements (allophones), 43 sound effects, and 12 DTM touch tones. The idea was to create sounds, patterns and sequences in the 8-bit style of the 80s or other retro sounds for making music instead of just simulating speech. Most allophones can be tuned and used tonally. The FLAME MIDI TALKING SYNTH contains two Speakjet ™ chips to produce a richer and more complex tonal variety as well as generating a pseudo stereo effect.

Since the Speakjet ™ has not originally been laid out for the purpose of making music it is actually not fully controllable via MIDI input, i.e.: once sounds are triggered they cannot be directly stopped by Note Off messages from a MIDI keyboard or a sequencer. Thus a MIDI-controlled audio tremolo has been implemented in the FLAME MIDI TALKING SYNTH virtually allowing MIDI control and enabling an easier integration into a MIDI setup. The FLAME MIDI TALKING SYNTH lets you play back preset words in its EXPANDER mode via an external MIDI keyboard or a sequencer. In addition you can use the FLAME MIDI TALKING SYNTH as a stand-alone MIDI controller since all controls and joysticks send MIDI control/change data to the MIDI-OUT connector.

The internal sound is generated by the two independently controlled Speakjet ™ chips. Each of them provides a mono audio output (32 kHz PWM output) through a 6.3 mm stereo socket. The right audio channel is assigned to chip A, the left channel to chip B. An insert Y cable splits both channels into two mono audio outputs, allowing you to position the channels individually within the stereo sound field with any external mixing device. The sound level ratio of both chips can be adjusted with the MIX control. An equal sound level is obtained by turning the MIX control to the cente5r position. All functions are clearly visible on the front panel with the start/ stop /MIDI-sync/ tempo functions on the upper right-hand corner, sound/ tremolo/ scale/ note/ pitch and random functions in the middle. The HOLD-switches are used to freeze the position of the joysticks. The REC-switches are used to play back the recorded movements of the joysticks. You can switch between the modes SEQUENCER (SEQ) and EXPANDER (EXP) with the switch in the middle of the panel."

Flame -4 VOX Quad Polyphonic Wavetable VCO/X-4 Quad Envelope VCA/Knight's Gallop-Shakmat Modular

Published on Mar 20, 2020 Dziam Bass

"In this patch I wanted to show mainly 4 VOX Quad Polyphonic Wavetable VCO and X-4 Quad Envelope VCA from Flame Instruments.

I used only one VCO from 4VOX and two channels with X-4.
To this I added pulses from Knight's Gallop from Shakmat Modular to triggers in X-4.
small change of wavetbles and addition of slightly portamento.
the melody is used with LFO as the Arpregio method with clock and quantitative LFO to Pitch in 4 VOX.

http://www.flame-instruments.de

More about modules:

FLAME "4VOX"
Quad wavetable oscillator - Quad LFO - MIDI wavetable expander

The 4VOX is a quad wavetable oscillator with up to four voices per VCO channel, resulting in a maximum of 16 voices at four individual outputs. Due to a MIDI input the module can be played both with CVs or/and directly via MIDI - MIDI allows for modulating some additional parameters. There are 39 memory locations for wavetables and 32 patches for all global and VCO parameters.

Flame 4 VOX Wavetable VCO and Curves-Analog Moving Resonance Filter Bank

Published on Dec 25, 2019 Dziam Bass

"Hello guys I hope that Christmas is passing well and you are enjoying the new equipment !
So today I have a small movie with 4VOX and Curves modules from Flame instruments
4 vox I used one preset wavetable voice called OLD FORMS and I added to it Curves - Analog Moving Resonance Filter Bank using ODD output.
As you can see small changes when you introduce the variation and envelope knob, I also introduced the low frequencey oscillator from Dual LFO module from nakedboards to 3 bands later.
this allows the individual bands in the filter to introduce further moves and creates completely new sequences, but here I showed it only in a demonstrative way to a small extent, of course the possibilities are much larger.
Clock can be entered with Lfo pulse or just a clock.
small demo fun but it's best to check it out for yourself."

Flame instruments 4 VOX Quad Polyphonic Wavetable VCO & Funkstill -Threek 13700 morphing Filter

Published on Dec 3, 2019 Dziam Bass

"Today I have a small movie using 4 VOX Quad Polyphonic Wavetable VCO from Flame instruments and the newest Analog Morphing Multimode Filter Threek 13700 from Funkstill.

I specifically used to show both modules of the ambient patch because it shows the great sound of 4 VOX and you can clearly see the use of morphing with the Threek 13700 filter.

I added LFO for morphing, but also for mode and toggle changes, as you can see the diodes change, it means that the filter changes in different modes: 3 LP, 3 HP, BP, 2L-1H etc.

in 4 VOX I also set 3 different wavetables which, as you hear, change through LFO and morphing, I set two voices for a light move envelope, because the dial can be assigned to various parameters, like chords, envelope, pitch, detune, octaves, semitone and more.

The 4VOX is a quad wavetable oscillator with up to four voices per VCO channel, resulting in a maximum of 16 voices at four individual outputs. Due to a MIDI input the module can be played both with CVs or / and directly via MIDI - MIDI allows for modulating some additional parameters. There are 39 memory locations for wavetables and 32 patches for all global and VCO parameters.

The parameters of a wavetable can be controlled by CVs and by MIDI. For instance you can morph through a wavetable with a CV, a MIDI controller or manually with the potentiometer. The range of waves within a wavetable can be selected by minimum and maximum values individually per voice which allows for creating more complex morphs. Further controllable parameters are Detune, Semitone, Octave, Chord, Portamento, Amplitude and Amp Move (90 degrees phase shifted volume modulation of a VCO's 4 voices). Min and max values can be selected for those parameters as well. Via MIDI it's possible to control further parameters (notes, chords, pitch bend, patch selection and wavetable selection)

More info about 4VOX here:
http://www.flame-instruments.de

The Filter Threek 13700 is an analogue, 3 Pole Morphing Filter with 6 steplessly variable and voltage controllable modes. It provides self-oscillation, wave shaping (between the modes) and a lot of modulation possibilities: VC-Mode (continuously), VC-Resonance, Linear FM, two assignable CV inputs and more. It is a low distortion filter, which develops its rough character through the various modulation and feedback possibilities. Especially if you modulate the Mode at audio rates for example with a VCO or by feeding back the output signal to the Mode input (CV1, Out Mode) you can explore very unique und dynamic sounds. With the additional 1 Pole input and 2 Pole output there are 12 filter modes available.

Flame Instruments Crossmix -Dual Crossfader recorder

Published on Nov 1, 2019 Dziam Bass

"Today I have another movie with the newest recorder from Flame Instruments.
Crossmix allows you to enter two audio sources or a CV, and do a cross between them and record it, then automatically play it in a loop mode or as you prefer as one shot.
Here I used Polyend Preset as the sequencer and two separately voices from the Noisy Oscillator from Modor module.
For this I used the Altar filter from Ritual for one voice and for the other I also used the X-4 module from Flame -Quad envelope vca for EG. I wanted both voices to be different so that you could see the cross recording.
