via this auction

"The 4093 NAND Drone Synth is an awesome little synth that can create a wide variety of sounds! It does low pulsing drones, phasing pulses, odd beeping noises, electronic chirps, UFO sounds, random android noises, laser sounds and a lot more!

Features on/off switches for 2 oscillators and a base pitch control knob. Pitch knobs for the 2 switchable oscillators. Volume knob on the side along with a red power indicator led and an on/off switch for the unit. 1/4" mono output. Rubber feet on bottom."

The Hamlet 2000 Skulldrone

via Ivory Bunker where you'll find additional details, videos and schematics. via Tomoroh Hidari on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

"Basically the Hamlet 2000 is a little Lunetta box, similar in spirit to the nand synth I built a while ago or my little blue lunchetta box which is based on the Heterodyne Space Explorer.

Housed in a novelty plastic skull (the size of a shrunken head), the Hamlet 2000 has two Audio- and two Control-Oscillators (LFOs, if you wish). The control oscillators each drive an LED which is coupled to an LDR to form a simple vactrol. These vactrols, in combination with a 100k Pot, each, set the frequencies of the audio oscillators and, unless the control oscs run at “full speed”, rhythmically switch the audio oscillators on and off.

For some additional visual effects the LEDs are “mirrored” by a pair of additional LEDs placed in the eye sockets of the Skull. The signal is summed via fixed transistors (an “on board” trimmer can be used to set the level)."

Quad Nand Mood Cube Oscillator synth CIRCUIT BENT

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
YouTube Published on Jul 1, 2012 by TheZombiest

via eBay UK

"An ambient light source and square-wave nosie maker.

The synth is based around a 4093 quad nand gate CMOS chip.
Capable of hideously beautiful beepy noise.
The 4 cascaded oscillators interact with each other to create a relentless range of synth tones.
The power starve dial adds further modulation and manipulation of the oscillations.

The noise-making circuit is built into a Mood Cube I got from RED5.
The Mood Cube lights up using 3 LEDs. I hacked the circuit to affect the rate of the light cycle.
I also added a voltage starve for this circuit too. The reason being this; when the LEDs are on full power,
they drain power from the 4093. This in turn adds further lovely modulation to the tones.

The controls are as follows:

4 dials on top to control the rate and tone of the oscillations.
1 dial on the left side for the 4093 power starve.
2 dials on the right side. 1 for LED rate and 1 for LED intensity.
2 switches on the front. 1 momentary push button and 1 toggle switch.
1 output jack located on the back side.
1 on/off switch and 9v battery holder on the underside of the cube.

The cube fits well into the palm and can be enjoyed by anyone with a passion for harsh, grinding noise terrorism and pretty colours.
It's powered by a single 9v battery which is housed in the bottom of the cube.
There's a 6.35mm jack socket for hooking up to your amp/mixer/effects.
There's no internal speaker!"

SYNTHROTEK VIRGIN HIGH QUALITY Nand Synth Sound Samples Chaos lofi synthesizer

The 4093 NAND Synth is a super-modifiable noise generator that will knock your socks off with its sheer amount of sonic potential! Low pulsing drones, random robotic chaos, high-pitched laser sounds - it's all here in this small package.

A great project to begin your explorations into the world of DIY sound synthesis, the 4093 NAND Synth PCB was designed with the beginner in mind: Board-mountable switches, tension-relief power supplies, socketed IC, hands-on knobs and switches for tone control, and a detailed silkscreen PCB to help you solder components right the first time. An über-cool mod section allows for all kinds of custom control - variable control voltage input, output gating, buffering, modulation; the sky's the limit with the 4093 NAND Synth PCB.

The 4093 NAND Synth PCB was designed by our electronics engineer Steven here at Synthrotek. Powered by 9V battery, an AC Adapter rated at 5-12V 200mA Center Negative polarity can also be used."

"Same mood cube from Red5 plus an additional led circuit from a pound shop flashing necklace.
The sound circuit is a 4093 quad nand oscillator with power starve dial, which has an ldr in parallel. The 2 led circuits cause all kinds of lovely modulation."

PT2399 Delay Crazy Feedback MOD lofi Synth - SYNTHROTEK - Nand Yamaha

YouTube via synthrotek |

"A great MOD of our PT2399 Delay Kit. We replaced the 20K linear delay pot with a 500K, making some out-of-this-world sounds! Also added is a momentary switch, that loops the current delay output as long as you hold the button down. Great for noise and electronic drone heads. Find the MOD online at:

Filth/Dubstep Siren/Synth

YouTube via iowanchef | August 21, 2010

"Inspired by the classic Crackle Box (or "Kraakdoo") and Dub Siren circuits, these synths are based on a 4093 Quad NAND chip with metal foil tape creating the "keys." An interpretation of the example given in the book Handmade Electronic Music, I find the sounds created in this fashion match up quite well with some of the rougher, uglier dubstep varietals; filth, gore, etc."
