SDS Digital Gate Crash Module! 3 Days from Concept to Completion!

Published on Aug 9, 2019 freshnelly

"This is a crazy little gate delay module I decided I needed to add to the demo rack. It won't be manufactured (probably) but I'm going to post the software and info's so anyone able can build it.
Of course if they can build this from scratch then they probably would have already done so?

Why so fast? I wanted to flex my designer muscle with a challenge and really did pull this off. It was actually only 2.5 days because I couldn't start until I was back from the mainland after noon on the second day.
OCD? Well perhaps with the features..

SO this module has 8 totally different modes:
A. 0-Dual Gate Delay Mode 3:10
B. 1-Dual Long Delay Mode 6:27
C. 2-Dual Clock Divider Mode 9:44
D. 3-Dual Gate Recorder/Looper Mode 13:43
E. 4-Logic Mode 15:33
F. 5-Dual Variable Gate Length Mode 17:41
G. 6-Dual Burst Pulse Generator 21:33
H. 7-Dual Preset Gate Sequences Mode 24:26

I had some fun with this video because it's not an actual product so could let loose a bit ha ha! I think doing the vid took longer than the module..

Enjoy"

VoiceLive Touch 2 Pedal 7 Project - Eurorack Interface

Published on Dec 23, 2018 freshnelly

"Today I was testing out the first 3 outputs for the Eurorack Modular Interface. The Triggers/Gates can output generic beats (as here) until the actual Clock and MIDI clock starts (set at 16 beats)

I have refined timing some and coincidentally just fixed a RIT_M clock start problem that I would have discovered today had someone not mentioned there was a problem a couple of days ago.
The perfect storm!!

This thing is so much fun it's hard to do work on it now ha ha. The new piezo pedal setup is:
Stopped:
2 or more taps to start & set tempo
1 Tap will abort if not playing yet.
Once Playing:
1 Tap = drumLoop bridge to alternate or if Song, loop to last marker
2 Taps= Jump to an Alternate drumLoop
3 Taps=Pause, 1Tap will re-start (+ Taps will re-sync)
4 Taps=Stop All
5+ Taps= resync
This scheme seems pretty easy to get used to so I'll stick with it a while :)
Next I'll be moving into menu diving and that stuff. Have made the sampler framework (PIC18F46K22) and it's probably going to take a few days to get that running, but hope to have a running pedal in time for New Years Slam Bam thank me maam
Cheers!"

RIT_M Sequencer Tutorial 4 - CVout to CVin with 2 RIT_M's

Published on Sep 22, 2018 freshnelly

"This tutorial demonstrates patching the CV from one RIT_M to another. Because the RIT_M passes input CV to output (if input is patched) with the CV knob acting as an offset, pausing this RIT_M can act as a "melody switch" of sorts (if used with a VCO) and temporary modifications to the first RIT_M in the chain can be recorded into the second or punched in by simply tapping the Rhythm Pad.

Not covered in the video is using an external CV source on the first RIT_M, which gets even more interesting!
If you have 2 or more RIT_M's, give this a try (if you haven't already!)
I hope this video spurs some new patches with the RIT_M!"

Reflex LiveLoop - Creating Slices to a Clock

Published on Sep 4, 2018 freshnelly

"The tutorial video covers making Slices (and samples) with a clock, and playing them randomly. This sounds mundane but is actually quite good when used with the original sequence (from a RIT_M in this case)

The first method is actually use Clock input to the record through ClockDiv while in Echo mode
The 2nd is to use REC T/G so steps through Rec-Echo-Play-Echo-Play etc. ( Feedback off so doesn't echo!)
The 3rd is to create 1-shot slices directly during a record only.

I hope this tutorial inspires ;)"

RIT M Sequencing Many Samples

Published on Aug 2, 2018 freshnelly

"As many RIT_M users are using their sequences to control samples I thought I'd chime in and do a bit of that myself!
It helps if the samples are slices from a set progression or in a set key. These samples are from the Reflex Liveloop Flash-8 Expansion demo so are in Cm except the drums.

There are a lot of samples and the Reflex uses the CV input to offset selection of these samples. There aren't exactly 60 samples to cover the +0-5V range (default RIT_M setting) so sometimes there's thresholds that can go one way or the other, thus producing a random adjacent sample glitch.

I personally like this as it adds variance, but can be made more stable by adjusting the RIT_M's CV-to-Gate pulse delay. It's default at 1mS but can be set up to 8mS to allow more time for the CV (and Reflex circuitry) to stabilize.

I guess a good lesson here is to keep all of the samples in the same key with variety to easily implement a sequence with them!"

SDS Digital RIT_M CVin+Knob Hold Feature

Published on Jan 28, 2018 freshnelly

"Here's a quick little video presenting the RIT_M's new CV in + CV Knob hold feature.
When the knob is moved, it generally switches out the Playing CV's for a live CV preview instead. (BTW this can be disabled)
For some control while using this to momentarily "overdub" the playing CV's with a Live CV, just hold the Loop pad and turn the knob a bit. The knob won't time-out and the preview ends immediately upon release of the Loop pad."

New SDS Digital RIT_M Rhythm Sequencer Module - Sim Demo 1

Published on Jul 7, 2017 freshnelly

"Here's the first demo (simulated as "real RIT_M is pretty ugly!) to show a basic rhythm being created, then edited with new CV levels at some beats.
The mere movement of the knob sets the RIT_M to edit existing beats until a time out of 1 loop plus a bit occurs from last knob movement, or tap on the Rhythm pad.
Beats can be added/removed (not shown) simply by either *not* moving the knob first or waiting for a timeout if was moved. Simple!"

Reflex LiveLoop - SGS Live Reversing!

Published on May 18, 2017 freshnelly

"Here's a long delayed (excuse the pun!) video on using SGS (SLice groove sequencer) to do a live reverse.

If you're accustomed to using the SGS feature of the Reflex then this will be easy for you! If not, better look at the manual first.

The idea is to record a single loop in R/P mode, which will also create a single Slice.

That Slice is then hand played as a simple SGS being cohesive to the original loop's "beat" or length.
(This can also be done with a clock on SGS etc etc, but by hand is so much more fun and quick to do!)

Now the SGS is playing the single slice (as a groove ..or not) with the song or track still playing into the Reflex, hit the Record button to start recording inside the SGS loop area.

Your SGS sequence will be updated with the new recording, and as long as the tempo is still the same, it'll sound great!

Now try reverse on PlayFX STart/End knobs and voila! Live reverse, in sync, and on time."

SDS Digital - New WiFiMIDI with touchOSC, 2 SDS_VCO's, and a Reflex delay

Published on May 15, 2017 freshnelly

"Here's some basic testing of the oh-so-smooth 4096 steps of CV goodness when the WiFiMIDI connects to touchOSC on an iPhone. I just may keep all these WiFiMIDI's myself!
8 touchOSC fader-type controls can be assigned to the jacks.(plus a few others for internal stuff, clock etc) touchOSC push notes? that's a whole different thing!"

Wifi MIDI for Your Modular from SDS Digital

WiFiMIDI module prototype demo1

Published on Apr 10, 2017 freshnelly

"This is the old prototype doing a note derived clock using a pair of SDS_VCO's and a Reflex in delay (Echo mode) with PlayFX reverse on "F" Note on the iPhone.
The Clock is feeding to a MI Frames module, and the MIDI output jack (WiFi + module MIDI) is feeding out of the bottom left jack.(T)
Notes and their velocities are being sent from the other 8 jacks, but only 2 are patched in here
Guess I should put together a proper WiFiMIDI, just so busy these days!"
