"this is an SMS MARS with the planet 7 (?) expander. Neat little modules. Its a single rack space. 1 each of: vco, vcf, lfo, eg, vca. Patch point on the back of the rack. The planet module brings all patch points to the front (actually for 2 mars units) and adds a couple utility modules (mixers, inverters, etc)."

"I was lucky enough to buy on of these from the designer 5 years ago, and was silly not to buy a second one that went through ebay a few months back, its that good !!! The two 1u racks sit above and below the 2 u unit which brings all the patch point to the front and include noise, ring mod and many more extras. I'll try to put up some samples up on the web site soon so you can have a listen. The filters are moog 24db and the VCOs have a very useful vc morph, from saw to saw and square to narrow pulse. I have to say again I love this synth, maybe evern more than my Organ system it is realy that good. The designer worked on a second version with analouge systems called the Spawn which was reviewed in SOS. I also have to say the designer was a lovely bloke, if anyone has his email I would love to get in touch again.

"Actually the SMS polyphonic thing was closer to the original E-Mu Audity (not the Proteus in Audity clothing that EMu sold recently).

The SMS programmable polyphonic never saw the light of day, although it had a bunch of good ideas in it. The only thing that sort of spun off of that project was the SMS Voice 400.

Synthmaster

Trip. When I had severe GAS (Gear Aquisition Syndrome), I used to have these dreams where I'd walk into a pawn shop and see all these bizarre and obscure synths. Sometimes they were rare models of Oberheims and Rolands, etc, but usually they were obscure synths from manufacturers I've never seen before. Right before I was waking from the dream, I'd think if I only grab one I might be able to take it to the other side. : ) If you ever had dreams like this you probably know what I'm talking about.

Well, when I saw the Synthmaster post on sequencer.de, I had that same feeling, like I just walked into a pawn shop of obscure synths in dream land. There are a ton of bizarre and obscure synths I've never seen or heard of before. Looks like he brought them over from the other side. Click here for more.

Salamander SMS Modular

The picture below popped up in my random picture viewer. I was wondering what the heck it was, so I was going to post to ask; but then I realized, duh, the name of the picture (20041030_AES_62.JPG) stands for the 2004 AES. I dug in the AH Archives and found the source of the image. Mark Pulver's site. I also found what it is. Title link will take you there, including more shots.
