ST Modular - CION (Function Generator)

video upload by Stefan Tretau

"This is only a short overview of the most important functions of CION and I am only scratching the surface here. There is much more you can do with this function generator.

00:00 Cycle & ENV Mode
01:04 Cycle & LFO Mode
01:47 Using External CV
02:56 OSC Mode
04:00 Processing External Audio"

CION is something of a jack-of-all-trades. It can be a CV AD or ASD envelope, a basic filter, a distortion effect, a slew limiter or even a voltage controlled oscillator with waveshape.

The function generator offers an ATTACK and a DECAY potentiometer, which represent the attack and decay times, the positive or negative slew time or the rising and falling edges of an oscillation, depending on the application. There is a CV input for ATTACK and DECAY. The rise and fall times are individually voltage controllable, but they can also be controlled together via the AD input. A shape knob lets you change the CV curve from exponential to logarithmic. The time range per cycle can be as fast as 3ms and last for up to 20 minutes depending on the position of the RANGE switch.

The TRIG socket is used to start the envelope via CV. This can also be done by the press of a push-button.Connect any signal (CV or audio). to be processed to the INPUT jack. Insert a gate signal to add a sustain stage to the AD envelope.

If no external signal is available to trigger the envelope, the function generator can be set to loop mode by the CYCLE switch. When the switch is active, the envelope starts again from the beginning as soon as it reaches the end of a cycle. The CYCLE CV input activates or deactivates the cycle functionality depending on the switch position.

New Euphoria DIY Semi-Modular Desktop Synth by ST Modular

video upload by Stefan Tretau

Details via ST Modular

Coming soon..

A semi-modular analog desktop-synthesizer

Featuring a dual complex oscillator characterized by simple and clear operation and uncompromised sound

Designed as an instrument that can be built, exolored and learned

DO IT YOURSELF! EUPHORIA is only available as a DIY-project and was designed to be built by passionate builders. It consists of fourteen individual circuit boards that are mounted on one controller board

MAIN FEATURES

TWO ANALOG OSCILLATORS

Two Voltage Controlled Oscillators with classic waveforms, waveshapers, sub-octaves and a noise source. Convenient sliding potentiometers for volume control of the waveforms. Based on the famous CEM3340 chip and a newly developed wave-shaping tone generator.

TWO SEQUENCERS

Play notes with a 5-STEP trigger and CV sequencer and an additional 4-STEP CV sequencer. Transpose and change the length of a sequence, control the tempo via CV, add swing or sequence manually with the push of a button.

OSC MIX & VARI BOARDS

Seamlessly blend the oscillators manually or by CV. Insert external audio and pass it through the Filter or internal Reverb. VARI BOARDS are interchangeable boards, each offering a different functionality. Choose the VARI BOARD that meets your requirements.

DUAL LPG, VCA & ADSR

Each oscillator is processed by a filter-based low-pass gate (PLG) and both are optionally routed through an internal AC-coupled VCA. Use the internal ADSR envelope to shape and express your sounds.

MODULATION & TOOLS

Get your sounds moving with the internal CV-controllable LFO and the Buchla 281e-inspired function generator. Multiply, invert and amplify your signals with a buffered multiple and an additional DC-coupled VCA.

video by Stefan Tretau

"This is just a short walk through some slopes of the mix output shown on a mini oscilloscope. It is supposed to demonstrate the different types of CV shapes you can create with SLOPES.
In order not to bother you with annoying bleeps throughout the video, I have included a little meditative track I recently made. Enjoy!"

ST Modular - CV SCAN, TRYFELO and EUROKASTLE

"Using CV SCAN to scan through different CV sources from Tryfelo to control EuroKastle Pitch. And using CV SCAN to route one CV source from Tryfelo to different CV inputs of EuroKastle. Scanning manually and via CV, using the Volt Output of CV Scan to change EuroKastle CV with the Scan knob and interrupting the CV SCAN route via gate signals and manually via the dedicated OFF button.
I´m also using the new Balanced Output Module "UIT" here.

This is not supposed to be musical ;-)"

ST Modular - STEREO COMPRESSOR with Boba Fat, HH, Pyxis and Phoebe

Stefan Tretau

„Stereo Compressor“ is a classic analog feedforward compressor, which takes its sidechain split directly from the input signal. It is based on the THAT4305 Analog Engine® single-chip with integrated Blackmer® VCA. It has two independent signal paths in order to process stereo signals. The left input is normalized to the right, if you want to compress mono signals instead. The module has three controls and a switch:

THRESHOLD determins the level at which the compressor starts working. This can be set from -40dB to 20dB.
RATIO sets how much the compressor turns down the volume when the threshold is reached (INF:1 to 1:1).
GAIN regulates the amount of make-up gain (-20dB to +20dB) that is applied to the signal.
Additionally there is an ON/OFF switch that makes it easy to compare the dry and compressed audio signal.

Please note that if you turn THRESHOLD counter-clock wise to the left, you reduce the threshold from 20dB (fully cw) to -40dB (fully ccw). Hence the compressor starts working earlier. If you turn RATIO counter-clock wise to the left you increase the amount of compression from 1:1 (fully cw, no compression) to INF:1 (fully ccw, infinite compression). So turning the knobs down corresponds to compressing the signal. The pictures below show the knobs in a neutral position where no compression is applied.

STEREO COMPRESSOR has a similar design as the STEREO SUM CHANNEL modules. If you want to add some compression to your mix STEREO COMPRESSOR is a perfect addition to your STEREO SUM Mixer.
